I covet one but I am a sucker for hype.

You are being very snippy. I was genuinely trying to be helpful.

You were being rude and telling me I was a) and idiot and b) clearly wrong.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 28/11/2021 18:47

Oh Pendragon Drinks chocolate is lovely. Although personally I’m not keen on the Parisian style flavours — they tend to be too sweet. Their dark chocolate flakes are great though.

@SoupDragon

You are being very snippy. I was genuinely trying to be helpful.

You were being rude and telling me I was a) and idiot and b) clearly wrong.

No I wasn't.

I was attempting to be helpful, because you were struggling to do something that everyone else finds really easy, so I assumed you were missing something, or that I suggest a better way to do it.

But carry on being rude, that's fine. I was trying to help, and struggle to understand why you think you know what my intention was better than I do!

I guess that is the issue with written text rather than spoken conversation, but you've made a wrong assumption about my intentions. Do you always assume that everyone who tries to help you either thinks you're an idiot or clearly wrong? And do you ever accept that sometimes some people have better ways of doing things than you? I usually listen to people who are managing to do things that I can't...

I bought ours thinking it was a gimmick but we are full on football season here for the kids so it gets used at least twice a week. Also a nice treat when visitors come over, especially teens.

Polkadotties · 28/11/2021 18:57

I’ve got a smeg milk frother. It’s got hot and cold settings so can be used for hot choc, milk for coffee, smoothies, slushy cocktails etc. I love it.

Riggles78 · 28/11/2021 19:01

Another one for the Lavazza Modo Mio! I put the Hotel Chocolat hot chocolate flakes in with the milk in mine! Never had a problem clogging, easy to clean, smooth hot choc at the perfect temp for drinking!

montessorinanny · 28/11/2021 19:50

I have one and adore it! They have a special deal on it on their site with quite a bit off if you take up a subscription.

wigglerose · 28/11/2021 20:09

We have one and TBF they are amazing.

Do I find myself wondering if they're just repackaged formula bottle making tech.... Hmm

RubyTuesday70 · 28/11/2021 20:15

We love ours, and it's super easy to use/clean. I got the copper version, and just bought a massive selection of sachets from HC last week ready for winter. DD uses it a couple of times a day. The lattes are nice too, only I struggle with the amount of sugar in everything (am diabetic), so I often make my own up using oat milk and grated dark chocolate.

Silenceisgreat · 28/11/2021 20:15

Yes I bought one about 4 weeks ago was thinking about giving it to my DD to take back to uni but then changed my mind. We love it. I have also grated chocolate bars and put 6 teaspoons in its lovely 😍 think it will be a Christmas hit in our house

SuddenArborealStop · 28/11/2021 20:20

Does anyone know how you'd make the chocolate cream that you get on top of the hot chocolates in hotel chocolat , I think that's the secret to making them great

middleager · 28/11/2021 20:21

We use ours daily with Pendragon hot choc. Thanks to pp for shedding light on the Parisian flavours - yes, they are too sweet, even the darker one.

I actually prefer mine with Oatly milk.
I heat my drink up for 20 secs in the microwave after.

I am intrigued though by the slowcooker hot choc mentions on MN!

tiredanddangerous · 28/11/2021 20:27

We've had ours since last Christmas and it gets used most days by the dc. Really easy to use and clean and delicious hot chocolate.

NotTheMrMenAgain · 28/11/2021 20:43

Yes I do and no, it's not (was an unexpected gift).

Prizepudding · 28/11/2021 20:45

@SuddenArborealStop, no idea how to make it but M&S sell chocolate squirty cream, keep meaning to buy it so not sure how it compares

SuddenArborealStop · 28/11/2021 20:48

@Prizepudding, thanks I'll check it out but the one in the cafe is literally heavenly so would love to recreate it

LockdownCheeseToastie · 28/11/2021 20:52

Buy a bamix stick blender instead. Same effect but does many other things. Don’t have the cupboard space for single purpose devices.

nomoneytree · 28/11/2021 20:59

@LockdownCheeseToastie I love my bamix too! But have been debating getting one of these.

TubbyCustards · 28/11/2021 21:01

They're not designed for powder so that will cause cleaning issues. You can use powered of course but it causes clumps etc. Hence why they only supply flakes

It's only warm chocolate because it's French and that's how the French drink their hot chocolate

I've had one for years and never run a cleaning cycle. Rinse immediately, soapy water, rinse. Perfect

OtterL · 28/11/2021 21:01

We bought one 6 months as a treat, having debated for ages given the price. Have used it WAY more than I thought we would - my 12 year old isn’t keen on breakfast but takes hot chocolate in a flask to drink en route. So easy to make and I find it really easy to clean. We used to make hot chocolate in the microwave - this is much better.

niki26 · 28/11/2021 21:07

We used mine a lot - I got mine for my birthday last year - I didn't fill out the warranty because I forgot - I guess I was a bit distracted by having a two month old but there was no excuse to be honest.

It broke a couple of weeks ago. So close to being a year since I got it (it was my birthday on Friday!) and I was pretty gutted. I wrote to customer services and asked whether I had taken out the warranty as I genuinely couldn't remember but I did say I thought I hadn't.

They responded and asked for serial number, where I purchased from etc etc. They also said if I had taken out the warranty I would have received an email confirmation.

I wrote back with the info they wanted - but then said I'm fairly certain I didn't take out the warranty but not to worry, I'd purchase a new one.

Two days later a shiny new one arrived in the post - the card from hotel chocolat said 'with our apologies.'

I mean - it shouldn't have broken within a year (I suspect my husband may have done something actually) but they sent a brand new one out even though I didn't have a warranty in place. I thought it was very good customer service.

Matilda15 · 28/11/2021 21:10

I bought one for DP for his birthday earlier this year and I can’t recommend it enough, we use it for any hot drink now even coffee with milk as it makes it perfect to drink temperature. It’s so easy to clean, you just put some washing up liquid in and push the same button and it cleans itself.
We buy the cheaper chocolate mix from Amazon a lot now as it comes in similar flavours for 1/3 of the price.

Grandfather · 28/11/2021 21:13

im sorry i bumped into a shallow conversation

BigYellowHat · 28/11/2021 21:19

Up to now I’ve been using a £1 battery operated whisk from IKEA which gives beautiful froth. However, DH and I love hot chocolate and have decided on one as our moving in present to match our new kitchen ❤️

ivfbabymomma1 · 28/11/2021 21:22

I really recommend it. I use it all the time and the other day I had a fudge brownie hot choc from Starbucks and I promise the velvetiser makes better! I just got a flash to take it with me from now on!
