To be sick of fucking Hermes

Why do companies still use this shower of shite courier service. Why can't online shops make it clear who they use so I can totally avoid any that use Hermes. Not once has my order with them been a straightforward delivery or a pleasant experience. In the past Hermes has:

  • pretended to deliver when in reality the driver couldn't find my address at the time (newbuild) and lied saying I wasn't in
  • told me on tracker they'd left parcel with a 'neighbour' but it was a woman about 8 houses down the road. No note left either. I had to literally knock on every house on my street
  • left parcel halfway through the letterbox and half hanging out. I don't have a front garden so I'm shocked it didn't get pinched. It was a big parcel.

So many other times of being told a specific 2 hour slot for delivery and it not arriving or arriving late or them saying I missed delivery (despite me hovering by the front door the entire day). My parcel scheduled for Wednesday didn't arrive. Then I was told it would arrive Thursday between 7 and 9pm. It's now midnight and tracker shows it's "still out for delivery'. I'm back at work tomorrow and no doubt I will miss it. I tried contacting them but all you get is some shite automated messaging service. So fed up!

I know mine by name and we have even became friends and do each other personal favours.

Think it depends on your area, a new build is always hard to find

Lostmyheart101 · 26/11/2021 09:44

I’m also getting mine a xmas present, his a star too.

tallduckandhandsome · 26/11/2021 09:45

My Hermes guy was great, but lately everyone, not just Hermes and except Royal Mail, seem to be leaving parcels at the front door without ringing the bell.

It’s very easy to steal from our house as we’re an end terrace and not overlooked from the front.

tallduckandhandsome · 26/11/2021 09:45

Thankfully nothing ever stolen.

Jokie · 26/11/2021 09:46

I absolutely adore our Hermes delivery driver. Super helpful and polite, on time and really takes care with the packages (as opposed to another delivery firm who literally threw a package at my door).

GiltEdges · 26/11/2021 09:47

Not my experience. I'm on first name terms with our Hermes delivery driver - he's fab.

Same. It's totally down to individual couriers in terms of the quality of service you'll get unfortunately. Personally, the only ones I've ever had an issue with locally are Yodel. Hermes, DPD, etc. are all great.

Hermes are also unlikely to be going anywhere anytime soon; infact quite the opposite. They've had a 40% increase in turnover since the beginning of the pandemic.

Welshlavalove · 26/11/2021 09:47

I went to move bin for bin men the other day , found 2 Hermes parcels by it . No knock on door or card 😏

Eileen101 · 26/11/2021 09:52

A parcel I sent by Hermes through vinted has been out for delivery for over two weeks now Hmm another was lost recently.

Mrsjayy · 26/11/2021 09:52

My Hermes man is great always on his times and always pleasant, yours sounds crap though !

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 26/11/2021 09:54

Hermes can suck my butt. On the 4th day a Hermes delivery was meant to happen (after 3 previous days ‘missed’), we stood outside for 20mins at her usual delivery time, and watched her sail passed as the parcel status on the app changed to ‘unable to deliver’!

We all work from home (3 adults) & have 2 giant dogs that woof if a leaf floats passed the door!

The thing that piddles me off is the lack of customer service interaction with a real human; every day I used that wretched Holly AI & (don’t ask me how, I was jabbing the keyboard wildly by this point as it was £200 of my son’s presents on her bloody car), and I got hold of a human -by human, it was via email so still a frustratingly delayed response - and rearranged (again) for a delivery.

On the 5th attempt, the courier got out of her car, threw the parcel at me then started shouting that she was on a warning thanks to me!

Yeah, no love, I think that’s you’re own stupidity that got you the warning.

I get it. They are paid shocking for every delivery. And it’s a thankless task. But they aren’t forced to become Hermes drivers. There are lots of other courier companies recruiting around here.

phishy · 26/11/2021 09:54

Absolutely adore him? Are you having an affair?
DobbyTheHouseElk · 26/11/2021 09:55

Hermes is fab here. Really helpful and know sensible places to stash a parcel. Friendly and on first name terms.

DickMabutt73962 · 26/11/2021 09:58

@GrimDamnFanjo

Last week apparently we weren't in! Only we were and Ring recorded the delivery guy trotting up to the door, without the parcel, photographing our front door and fucking off. The next day they "couldn't find our address" - their so's showed they were still at the spot. On the third attempt we got the parcel!
Shock
HarrietsChariot · 26/11/2021 09:58

YANBU. If a delivery is sent via Hermes or Yodel, I know I need to steel myself for a battle to actually get my hands on whatever I've ordered.

Muddywoof · 26/11/2021 10:00

At our old house, the delivery driver there was terrible, they would say they attempted when I'd been in all day, once even attempted all 3 times in one day, when again I had been in all day... left things on doorstep on a very rainy day etc. Then we moved and our delivery guy was great, really nice and never had a problem, this restored my faith in them and I used them to deliver some things last christmas... we sent 4 parcels, one arrived fine, the other three were ripped in to, the wrapping paper had also been torn, and had obviously been looked in. Wont be making that mistake again.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 26/11/2021 10:02

@jetadore

Why do companies still use this shower of shite courier service.

Because it’s ‘cheap’. The bovine consumer will tolerate a surprising amount to save a few pennies, shit service, zero customer support, shite pay and conditions for employees, etc. Case in point PPs chirping about how ‘great’ it is.

WTF? As OP pointed out, a lot of the time we don't know who the courier will be. As others on here have said, sorry "chirped" (are you always so pompous?), it seems very hit and miss - our local Hermes chap is efficient, polite and pleasant - so is our postwoman. I haven't been given a breakdown of either of their terms and conditions of employment.
theemmadilemma · 26/11/2021 10:04

Hermes are shit. I've been told my address doesn't exist once. It's a standard house on a standard road. Everything in the last few weeks from them has been delayed by a week including next day Amazon stuff.

Palosverdesblue · 26/11/2021 10:06

My Hermes guy is fabulous and loved by all his customers, he helped to look after the old people on his round during lockdowns.

TravellingSpoon · 26/11/2021 10:07

@JamMakingWannaBe

Not my experience. I'm on first name terms with our Hermes delivery driver - he's fab.

Yodel on the other hand....

This is our experience too! I love our My Hermes Courier, he is so happy and friendly - but he lives local so knows people and knows the roads.
Twoweekcruise · 26/11/2021 10:11

Our Hermes delivery driver is lovely and goes out of his way to help. My parents driver is crap and regularly throws parcels into their living room via their open window or dad will find a parcel in their dustbin when he goes to put the rubbish out!
I recently purchased an item and accidentally clicked for the item to be delivered via Hermes to a local shop. What a nightmare! The shop never received it, I kept getting daily emails from Hermes saying it was ready to collect but it just isn’t there. There was absolutely no way to contact Hermes, I tried everything. Their customer services is beyond abysmal. I’ve lost a brand new coat and no come back.

TwentinQuarantino · 26/11/2021 10:20

Seems a real mix of experiences depending on the area. But as some pps pointed out above, being unable to contact a real human when you need customer sevices is the most frustrating part of it all. Also I'd happily pay more for delivery if it meant getting my parcel on time/without the stress that Hermes causes.

Sailor2009 · 26/11/2021 10:20

When we had our first delivery from them after moving the Hermes driver told me off for having my front door locked. Apparently the last people there never did so he could just walk in and leave the parcel in the hallway. I pointed out that A. I have a 40kg dog that wouldn't take kindly to a stranger strolling into her house and B. If he was planning in entering my house with the lit cigarette he was holding still in his hand then I was definitely going to keep my door locked.
He once left a note when I was out saying he'd left my parcel in the blue bin. That would be my recycling bin would it? Which is out on the road because it's bin day. Cheers for that.

GrandTheftWalrus · 26/11/2021 10:22

We were waiting on a delivery and got an email to say we weren't in and the pic was taken halfway down the carpark!

Now when it's hermes the minute it says out for delivery I get it to the local shop instead.

StormyCornishSeas · 26/11/2021 10:26

Hermes are pot luck in this areas. You get anything from great parcel arrived in time in a specific place or somewhere miles away

Yodel on the other hand are shocking

thirty6 · 26/11/2021 12:22

Moaning on mumsnet wont change a thing! Your contract for supply of the item is with the original company - they choose and contract the delivery company.

If you have a problem with the deliveries surely the best way to deal with it is to complain to the original company that you ordered from - that way they will (or should) change their courier.
