Came home today to find that DD16 had taken all the covers off the sofa cushions and put them in the washing machine! Fortunately they all seem fine, but surely a spin cycle would ruin them?
YABU: DD is right, they go in the washing machine
YANBU: This ruins them, they shouldn't be machine washed

I wash throw cushions occasionally and covers often.

SunShinesBrightly · 25/11/2021 20:55

You’ve just reminded me 😷 🤢
One of my friends when I was a teenager had a dog that used to hump the cushions on their sofa. Don’t think they got washed...
Should have been.
The dog also enjoyed dragging their bits across the carpet on the floor.
It was pretty gross.

Santaischeckinglists · 25/11/2021 20:56

So your dc is helping get ready for Christmas and you are complaining?

speakout · 25/11/2021 20:57

Of course you would wash them- why not?

FindingMeno · 25/11/2021 20:57

I wash cushion covers and the actual seat covers.
Well done her.
I'm sure she probably thought they needed a wash and looked at the care label.

altforvarmt · 25/11/2021 20:58

The covers for throw cushions should definitely be washed. They get bogging over time, surely?

Babdoc · 25/11/2021 20:58

I’m with the PP who wonders why your teen DD has suddenly decided to wash the covers. What has she or her friend(s) spilled on them while you were out…?! Grin

SunShinesBrightly · 25/11/2021 20:59

I’ve only heard the them called ‘scatter cushions’. ‘Throw cushions’ is new to me!

SisterAgatha · 25/11/2021 21:00

You are 100% BU, sorry

Snozwanger · 25/11/2021 21:00

I think @Babdoc has hit the nail on the head there. I would never have considered washing cushion covers at her age unless I'd spilt something on one. Pretty smart of her though to wash them all as a cover story Smile

liveforsummer · 25/11/2021 21:01

I assume she noticed They were looking a bit grubby. Sometimes you don't see it when you look at them every day but of course they need washing sometimes

icedcoffees · 25/11/2021 21:01

Of course you wash them!

Our throw cushion covers get washed every week along with the throw blankets.

PinkSyCo · 25/11/2021 21:01

Huh? I don’t buy cushions unless they’re machine washable. How do you usually wash yours then? And could I adopt your daughter please?

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 25/11/2021 21:03

i wash mine and the actual cushion inner too. Probably about 3 cover washes to one inner wash. But I have cats and dogs that like to make cushion nests.
I often peg them out on the line too, for a blow through.

I'd be a bit suss as to why the teen child suddenly decided the covers needed to be laundered though.

ThorsLeftNut · 25/11/2021 21:04

All parts can be washed. If it fits in the machine it’s getting washing.

Why did she wash them anyways?

rainyskylight · 25/11/2021 21:05

I also presume she spilt some tea on one and has now washed them all.

allthegoodusersaretaken · 25/11/2021 21:06

Oh, I'm not worried about why she did it - she's just a very strange teenager who actually enjoys cleaning!

gluenotsoup · 25/11/2021 21:13

Yes, they get washed frequently here too. It’s lovely to snuggle up to freshly washed cushions in a freshly cleaned house🙂

Santaischeckinglists · 25/11/2021 21:22

Maybe you could hire her out??

liveforsummer · 25/11/2021 21:51

Lots of people suspicious as to why perhaps don't have teens atm. The whole mrs hinch trend is pretty popular with many teen girls. I say atm but I remember living making my room clean and smelling nice and ironing my clothes in my mid teens - few out of that pretty quickly once real life started though 😆

Bontanics · 25/11/2021 22:04

How else would you clean them?

OnwardsAndSideways1 · 25/11/2021 22:18

My cat accidentally did a wee on a cushion recently- and I found out you can wash the inner bit of a duck down cushion! Goes in the tumble drier and everything. Washed the velvet outsides, all good, I had no idea!

Thatsplentyjack · 25/11/2021 22:22

You absolutely should wash them.

Bluntness100 · 25/11/2021 22:23

You just mean the small throw cushions on yout sofa? Of course you wash them, it’s minging not to, I do mine every few weeks.

Bluntness100 · 25/11/2021 22:24

@allthegoodusersaretaken

Oh, I'm not worried about why she did it - she's just a very strange teenager who actually enjoys cleaning!
Don’t be mean, she’s not strange, it’s actually you who is, of course you wash your scatter cushion covers.😂
