To wonder what happened with date?

RainbowBriteUk · 24/11/2021 19:29

I went on a date at weekend. He was as lovely as he's been chatting to (we met on OLD). The date was really nice and we've both said we want to see each other again.

However, on the date we went for a coffee and then later on we went for a drink at the pub. Both times we both went to get my card out/his change purse out and I said I'll pay and he just said OK and let me. I was a bit miffed at this. It was only just over £6 for both lots of drinks so it's not going to bankrupt me but at the same time I would've liked him to say that he would get them. Would this put others off to?

Yeah that would put me off.

Also chuckling at change purse.

Offmyfence · 24/11/2021 21:44

@takeasadsongandmakeitbetter

Sorry, did you say his change purse? That would have done it for me!!

All in seriousness though, maybe give him one last go but next time don't offer to pay!

I agree 🤮
CSJobseeker · 24/11/2021 21:45

Why did you get your purse out the second time?

First time, you both offer, and you pay. Fine.
Second time, surely you shouldn't offer as it's his turn?

GreyhoundG1rl · 24/11/2021 21:47

Maybe he didn't have enough pennies left in his purse.

StormyCornishSeas · 24/11/2021 21:50

I had a had boss with a change purse. Strange chap. It would be a no on that basis

Seriously I'd give him the benefit of the doubt , could just be first date nerves and awkwardness. But don't offer on the next date and see what happens

CSJobseeker · 24/11/2021 21:51

For some reason "change purse" also reminds me of those cylinders for pound coins that people used to carry. What happened to them?

KateofGhent · 24/11/2021 22:18

Well, what a catch you have caught, OP ! Have you got his phone number? Grin
I am fed up, not hard up.

Justgorgeous · 24/11/2021 23:18

As soon as he got out his change purse I’m afraid I would have been off.

Shasha17 · 24/11/2021 23:23

Why say "I'll pay!" If you don't want to?
Confused

GreyhoundG1rl · 24/11/2021 23:28

I have to ask what on earth you were drinking if a trip to the coffee shop and the pub for two people set you back the sum total of six quid!

thevassal · 24/11/2021 23:29

@1u1a

.”it was only just over £6 for both lots of drinks”

What kind of bar does lots of drinks for 2 people for £6??

Just because they were at a pub (not bar) doesn't mean they were drinking. Two cokes, or even one pint and a soda with lime or something could easily be just over 6 quid.

If you went to a spoons you could get six pints for that!

GreyhoundG1rl · 24/11/2021 23:30

Two coffees in most places would take care of the six quid...

LittleDandelionClock · 24/11/2021 23:37

@SpamIAm

You did offer, so it seems a bit unreasonable to be annoyed he accepted your offer. If everything else was good then I wouldn't write him off just because of this. He may have thought you'd be offended if he didn't let you pay.

If he doesn't insist on paying next time then that's a different story!

This. ^

Whether I am old fashioned, or as that naff old saying on mumsnet 'living in the fifties' goes. I would find a man expecting me to pay so offputting. Even if I offered, I would expect him to say 'no, put your purse away, I will get it.'

Men who are tight arsed with their money are usually selfish and crap in bed too. Be warned @RainbowBriteUk

AgedVellum · 24/11/2021 23:38

I think the OP paid swiftly because she didn’t want her date to start counting 10p coins out of his change purse at her local.

LittleDandelionClock · 24/11/2021 23:39

Oh yeah, they were cool! Grin

traka · 24/11/2021 23:43

I want to hear more about the purse, was there lipstick in it?

LittleDandelionClock · 24/11/2021 23:46

@traka

I want to hear more about the purse, was there lipstick in it?
Also, did it have a logo on the outside? Like from Star Trek, Star Wars, or Game of Thrones? Sooooo many questions!
Onlinedilema · 24/11/2021 23:53

So many questions.
What was his change purse like?
Where can you go to get 2 coffees plus 2 other drinks for £6?
What did he look like?
I'm imagining he has a side parting with his hair combed down into place. Light coloured shoes and a navy cardigan. Probably wears glasses too. I'm hoping he doesn't have long finger nails.

GreyhoundG1rl · 24/11/2021 23:57

That a good word picture, Online, I can totally see him.
Poor op!

inflatableseahorses · 24/11/2021 23:58

I went on a date years ago with a man who, when I suggested it, agreed to split the bill for dinner and then, and I can't remember how, i got the round of drinks in at the bar went to afterwards. I was miffed about this as I thought we'd had a good evening so was affronted that he hadn't wanted to make the effort to pay. He contacted me and suggested we went again and I thought I might as well. He paid.
14yrs later and we have two children, live in a nice house largely paid for by him and, even with lockdown restrictions this year, go on lovely holidays all paid for by him etc. He is a very kind and generous person who, it turns out, thought it was odd that I "insisted" on splitting the bill and didn't want to upset me.
Mind you, he didn't have a change purse. That might have been a deal breaker.

Wingedharpy · 25/11/2021 00:08

My lovely DH has a change purse, but, to be fair, he's only had it a couple of years and is now pretty ancient - as am I.
When he first got it, I was mortified and asked, not unreasonably, why?
He said he felt he was of an age where rummaging around in his trouser pockets looking for spare change could be misinterpreted as him playing with himself.Shock
Fair enough.

DukeofEarlGrey · 25/11/2021 00:20

Can someone post a picture of a change purse please?

Bumpsadaisie · 25/11/2021 03:44

Probably old fashioned and sexist of me but I just could not fancy a man who had a change purse. 🤣 👛

Yournamehere007 · 25/11/2021 04:12

Its a little bit unfair to get rid when you iffered to pay. You get mad at him for accepting your offer. May be give it a chance say your turn this time.
We arecinxa modern world women are allowed to pay for stuff.

Amandasummers · 25/11/2021 04:20

I always offer and would happily pay my way but yeah this would put me off, I still like the old fashioned gent traits and to at least offer!!! Just going ok just makes it lose all the romance for me. I feel embarrassed for him!
