To wonder who would actually buy this?

Just saw this posted on FB.

Surely it's cheaper and more practical to buy a decent loaf of bread, beans, and cheese to assemble yourself??

I understand the appeal of convenience, but beans-on-toast is already the embodiment of ease: toast (or grill if posh Wink ) bread, bung beans in microwave, grate on generous helping of cheese, job done!

Am I just too common to understand the appeal of posh cheesy beans of toast? Would any of you buy this?? Help me out here! Grin Grin

It looks like it's in the party food bit? It looks like something you buy for a party or a buffet or something when you just want to bung a bunch of stuff in the oven.

Nicknacky · 23/11/2021 15:39

I will be buying it when I buy my Christmas party food.

It’s party food so I don’t see what’s wrong with it🤷🏻‍♀️

SparklyLeprechaun · 23/11/2021 15:44

I wouldn't buy it as I don't see the appeal in beans on toast, but
you can make most ready meal type things cheaper, not quite sure what your point is? Everyone I know will buy pigs in blankets this Christmas, when it's cheaper and dead easy to wrap chipolatas in bacon.

PussyCatEatingPigsInBlankets · 23/11/2021 15:45

It's not just M&S Party Food a rather odd range that includes one with spring rolls filled with burger, cheese and gherkin

it's

M&S vomit on a plate Party Food

PussyCatEatingPigsInBlankets · 23/11/2021 15:47

Hang on....

£5.50 for some beans on toast

🤯

takealettermsjones · 23/11/2021 15:47

£5.50 for 10! You can make 10 full dinner platefuls of beans on toast for a lot less than that!

RamblingFar · 23/11/2021 15:59

It's convenience isn't it. You can probably decant it quickly on a nice baking tray with other stuff in the range and cook it at the same temperature for about the same amount of time. Food for a party sorted easily.

It's not to replace a normal beans on toast snack/dinner.

chocolateicecream · 23/11/2021 16:00

Since when has beans on toast been party food?

Justwhy123 · 23/11/2021 16:02

We always get M&S party food at Christmas, but I definitely wouldn’t purchase this!

BonnesVacances · 23/11/2021 16:02

Not the point of the thread but I don't find party food the least bit convenient. We used to have to write a schedule of what goes in when and at what temperature for how long. Totally does my head in and now we just to do big things for people to slice. Grin

Thehop · 23/11/2021 16:04

This is the first year in a while we’re not buying M&S Christmas food. This sounds nice, if a rip off, but the rest has gone weird.

Dixiechickonhols · 23/11/2021 16:08

Looks like weird party food. So it’s probably in a 3 for £x offer. Designed to be bunged in oven with other party bits. Sounds odd and messy to me.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 23/11/2021 16:09

M&S are running out of normal food to miniaturise...

Loads of the party food ranges now are designed to all go in at the same temperature for the same amount of time.
Sprogonthetyne · 23/11/2021 16:21

I would guess that it needs to be sold at that price for a minimum amount of time, so they can say it's half price a couple of weeks before Christmas when they sell it for a price someone might pay

Jibberjabberhutt · 23/11/2021 16:22

It’s gimmicky canapé stuff. Like their cheesy Marmite mini crumpets last year. Which were actually really nice.

ClawedButler · 23/11/2021 16:23

What's next, Spaghetti Hoops A L'Orange? One chipshop chip with a tomato jus? Mars bar au gratin?

Calee03 · 23/11/2021 16:24

I would not play a couple quid for this let alone the £5.50 they are charging. Crazy!!

Beans in toast is meant to be a go to me when money is tight or you have nothing left in the cupboard.

Xmasbaby11 · 23/11/2021 16:27

I wouldn't buy it, however, if I did, my kids would probably
love it, whereas they are fussy about the 'nicer' ones. It's not like I'm going to do delicious crispy prawn party food for the adults and make beans on toast for the kids!

mynameiscalypso · 23/11/2021 16:28

We had those last weekend. They're quite nice but I'm a sucker for miniature food.

drpet49 · 23/11/2021 16:30

Oh look, another M&S bashing thread.

FlowersNoScent · 23/11/2021 16:32

Goodness! I couldn't get past the 'POSH' labelling. Even if I wanted to buy it (I wouldn't), calling it 'Posh x' is cringy. Unless it's actually being used ironically.

FlowersNoScent · 23/11/2021 16:35

I have no issues with buying something for convenience though, even if you could make it yourself. I just hate the word "posh", mainly thanks to mumsnetters using it for everything.

NotImpossible · 23/11/2021 16:37

All that plastic... for tiny beans on toast?!

CSJobseeker · 23/11/2021 16:41

I'm the opposite - no-one I have ever spent Xmas with has done anything other than make them themselves.

OP - for party food, I can see the appeal, as you wouldn't make little individual beans on toast along with all the other party prep.

However, I think they'd make a crap canape. Beans on toast is great when you have a plateful, but these won't have enough beans on, they'll be dry.
