Just saw this posted on FB.

Surely it's cheaper and more practical to buy a decent loaf of bread, beans, and cheese to assemble yourself??

I understand the appeal of convenience, but beans-on-toast is already the embodiment of ease: toast (or grill if posh Wink ) bread, bung beans in microwave, grate on generous helping of cheese, job done!

Am I just too common to understand the appeal of posh cheesy beans of toast? Would any of you buy this?? Help me out here! Grin Grin

Not me I hate baked beans.

Gonnagetgoing · 23/11/2021 16:48

It’s party food. But I wouldn’t bother

KatherineJaneway · 23/11/2021 16:49

Cash rich, time poor?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 23/11/2021 16:58

55p each!! That's like, how much per individual bean?!! M&S really have lost the plot now...

MapleMay11 · 23/11/2021 16:59

@KatherineJaneway

Cash rich, time poor?
Cash rich = private caterers not rubbish from M&S or Waitrose.
Starcaller · 23/11/2021 17:04

Ha, just saw this on my FB!

@PussyCatEatingPigsInBlankets

It's not just M&S Party Food a rather odd range that includes one with spring rolls filled with burger, cheese and gherkin

it's

M&S vomit on a plate Party Food

Don't knock it till you try it, a fancy burger place by me has sold spring rolls with the same filling as a starter for years- delicious so thanks for letting me know about these as I'll definitely get some
kwiksavenofrillsusername · 23/11/2021 17:24

Seem like a weird choice for party food. Surely there’s no way to eat these with your fingers without making a mess? And they’d go cold after a few minutes, so you’d be eating a tiny cold beans on toast.

This thread is making me look forward to grazing on party food though. Mmm spring rolls.

FictionalCharacter · 23/11/2021 17:24

Ah, the usual overpriced, overpacked, mediocre stuff M&S manage to sell because there are people who love the “brand”. No thanks.

roses2 · 23/11/2021 17:25

I went yesterday to buy the mini kievs and mini pies. They are delicious! Quick and easy week end lunch for me and the kids.

ThePlumVan · 23/11/2021 17:38

Every time I see miniature food I think of Brigit Jones mum Grin

Rabblesthecat · 23/11/2021 17:56

I had it in this weeks Ocado order just because I wondered what it was like. Was ok but a bit meh!

Doing your own would be a jot more difficult trying to get the beans and cheese to stay put as a neat canapé so I see the appeal

Practicebeingpatient · 23/11/2021 18:00

It looks and sounds revolting and it's so expensive! I like to buy a few mini pies for Christmas because making pies is time consuming but it's hardly hard work to make something on toast.

Cowpad · 23/11/2021 18:08

...and another plastic trayAngry for something completely unnecessary.only one other person here on this thread seams to be bothered about this.Wtf is wrong with MN people.Do you really dont give a shit about the future for your kids.

Nameyourkidhurricane · 23/11/2021 18:26

@FredaFox iceland do them in their tgi Friday range as well. I think for the sake of science, you need to get them fr both ranges and do a taste test.

Toottooot · 23/11/2021 20:03

Canna beat Markies party food.

tenredthings · 25/11/2021 07:09

All that plastic packaging, it's criminal ! It's gonna end up in landfill and in our oceans, taking hundreds of years to degrade just so someone can have a crappy beans on toast canapé which you could make for a fraction of the price in about 5 minutes.

Mummadeze · 25/11/2021 07:12

Bet they are delicious! I would buy them as part of a selection of canapés, more as a talking point than anything else. It is a fun idea like mini fish and chips, mini burgers

Pinkorchide · 25/11/2021 07:16

M&S trying to “think outside the box”, as it were. I wouldn’t buy these mainly because I find all these ready made party foods give me a stomach ache.

FestiveMayo · 25/11/2021 07:26

They'll probably be in an offer. They've got people taking so it's worked even if they don't sell many.

They haven't just got a loaf of bread and chucked beans on it. It's a tiny cute slice of bread with probably fancy cheese etc but yes I agree it's expensive and you could make similar cheaper.

Mybalconyiscracking · 25/11/2021 07:26

Generally party food is gimmicky and nasty.
Stick with a melon hedgehog stacked with cheese and pineapple on sticks; some prawn vol-au-vents and a plate of egg mayonnaise open sandwiches, with a sprig of parsley on the side.

FestiveMayo · 25/11/2021 07:27

And they aren't relying on repeat purchases, they just need some people to say ooh fancy beans on toast, I wonder if this is a rip off or not? I'll try them and find out.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 25/11/2021 07:31

Lol. They are the opposite of Posh!!

God, I bloody hate the oncoming onslaught of shitty beige food almost as much as I hate the amount of fucking plastic it generates.

Etherealhedgehog · 25/11/2021 07:35

Do you really not understand this OP?! Presumably you actually do and this is...what.... just a rather laborious way to sneer at people who buy ready made party food and pay M and S prices for it?

SquitMcJit · 25/11/2021 07:38

@FredaFox

The burger spring rolls are amazing. I had a yellow-stickered pack for my tea last week Grin

I agree with OP that the mini beans on toast are a step too far
