To never buy a bloody dyson again

Laughingstock91 · 21/11/2021 18:24

Bought one of those hand held cordless dysons last year- can’t remember which one but OMG it’s a bag of shit. Charge is about 10 mins- gets clogged up with hair and is utterly shit. Massive regret.

Aibu to never buy one again? So overrated and so shit!

I'm amazed by the people who like Henry.

Henry is favoured in pubs/shops/offices because a) it has a long cord so you dont need to unplug and move it around b) it works best on flat/short pile carpets of the type used in commercial premises.

Its crap on deeper pile home carpets and useless with pet hair.

Cleaning ladies like it because its portable, cheap, has a long lead so doesnt need unplugging, not because it actually does an especially good job on the carpets.

I've tried shark, miele, dyson mains upright and Henry and for actually really sucking up crap, the Dyson mains is the best. I've had mine for 6 years and its fine but like any decent appliance, maintenance is key, you need to clean/replace brushes and filters over time to get a long life.

TurnUpTurnip · 21/11/2021 20:05

I hate my dyson and it is the mains one, I find it isn’t good for a big family like mine maybe a couple that doesn’t make much mess but not for my household with lots of small children so needs hoovering all the time.

Okbutnotgreat · 21/11/2021 20:07

Replaced our ageing Dyson V8 with a V15 recently and omg it’s amazing. It’s a totally different vacuum and as good as any corded one I’ve ever owned. Runs for nearly an hour, batteries can be swapped easily but rarely need to. It’s awesome on carpet or hard floor and copes very well with shaggy rugs. Doesn’t get tangled it’s hair at all and all told is an incredible piece of machinery. I wouldn’t swap it for anything.

DappyApple · 21/11/2021 20:09

I’ve got both a Dyson and a shark cordless (pet versions)

Dyson is an absolute steaming pile of shite. Blocks up every 5 minutes, I used to have to brush all the carpets first to pick up any loose hair, suction really isn’t good at all! Plus emptying it is a nightmare, as all the fluff and dust gets stuck up the sides. Battery life isnt long at all but 3 hours to charge!

Shark is far superior, yes it’s heavier but I hoovered my rug as soon as I got it (hoovered day before with dyson) omg the dust and grime that came out of that rug after 10 minutes was something else!

Can do my whole house on a full charge and the anti hair wrap has been a godsend with 3 cats and both dd and I with long hair.

BackBackBack · 21/11/2021 20:09

Its crap on deeper pile home carpets and useless with pet hair.

Three dogs Chez Back and Henry does just fine here.

TreborBore · 21/11/2021 20:20

Dysons are rubbish. I gave mine away.

BoPeeple · 21/11/2021 20:22

I’ve had several Dysons and I totally agree. Utterly useless and a lot of money. I’ve never had one last more than 2 years without some part needing replacing. Cost a fortune! And don’t get me started on having to take it apart every five minutes.

I bought a John Lewis cordless in the end, which is not amazing but a bit better and the charge lasts forever. I figured it has a two-year guarantee so even if it I have to replace it every two years it will still be cheaper per year than a Dyson.

I’ve heard very mixed reviews about Shark.

tobedtoMN · 21/11/2021 20:31

Shark Liftaway - bloody brilliant.

RocketPanda · 21/11/2021 20:34

I have a Shark and it's the best vacuum I've ever used. I used to have a Dyson and I vacuum everyday and it was absolute shit. The Shark leaves nothing behind.

Welshiefluff · 21/11/2021 20:34

Are you using the full power setting all the time? In which case yes 10 minutes sounds about right.

RoseGoldEagle · 21/11/2021 21:02

I have the Dyson V11 Absolute, the first maybe 10 times I used it I thought it was amazing. But after the first few months it would clog up constantly, and barely picks anything up now despite cleaning the filter and unblocking it and looking after it. Once you do manage to hoover a small area w
as soon as you stop pressing the button it spits half the particles back out again. I will never buy a Dyson again, I detest the thing.

Ekofisk · 21/11/2021 21:17

You’re all unreasonable.

What you need is a Miele.

JassyRadlett · 21/11/2021 21:21

@Ekofisk

You’re all unreasonable.

What you need is a Miele.

I’m not! I’m with you here. Adore mine.
charabanctrip · 21/11/2021 21:22

Dysons are embarrassingly bad now. I hate my Shark, but at least I can comfort myself with the knowledge that it was cheap compared to the Dyson.

Bobsyer · 21/11/2021 21:23

I'm so with you.

I donated ours to my mum who has just moved and bought a Miele instead. Mum used to have one of those and the suction is amazing. Lasted for 20 years, she sold it because it was too heavy to lug upstairs (which to be fair mine is quite heavy too).

Ekofisk · 21/11/2021 21:36

Sorry Jassy! I’ll correct my previous post.

You’re all unreasonable except for Jassy and Bobs.

buckeejit · 21/11/2021 21:57

Just bought a cordless shark to replace dyson as it was half the price & sales guy rec'd it. I like that it has a joint in the middle to fill it to go under the sofas etc easier

ladygindiva · 21/11/2021 22:08

@ShirleyPhallus

As a slight aside I really dislike the misuse of AIBU. OBVIOUSLY no one is going to tell you that you are being unreasonable in not buying a dyson.

Anyway, get a shark. Vastly superior and much cheaper

I purchased a Shark about a month ago, when my elderly miele finally died. Omg it's beyond belief, I'm in love!
immersivereader · 21/11/2021 22:23

Yup, we've a hand held thingy majigy - rubbish

JassyRadlett · 21/11/2021 22:50

@Ekofisk

Sorry Jassy! I’ll correct my previous post.

You’re all unreasonable except for Jassy and Bobs.

Miele represent.
antwacky · 21/11/2021 22:59

I've got a cordless Dyson DC35 animal, it does a great job. It's almost ten years old, apart from having to replace the battery after five years I've never had any trouble with it.

Peach01 · 21/11/2021 23:02

Cordless vacuums aren't going to do the same job as corded. I've used Dyson and Shark. Shark is cheap crap in comparison.

WeasilyPleased · 21/11/2021 23:13

You were unreasonable to buy from that money grabbing idiot's firm in the first place.

CantStartaFireWithoutaSpark · 21/11/2021 23:20

I recently sold my Dyson (piece of shit!) on eBay. Bought a shark.

Shark for life, what a joy it is to use

LifesABotch · 21/11/2021 23:20

Are you maybe accidentally using it on "boost" mode (or whatever it's called) all the the time? That vastly reduces time between charges, but on the normal setting you should get half an hour or so?
