@MagicBlueberry

So as not to be accused of drip feeding, its not like there is water gushing but I was concerned what might look like a small damp patch now, might be quite a big damp patch ans potentially and lot bigger an issue in 12 hours time..
'Drip-feeding'. Groantastic pun OP. Grin

YABU for wringing your hands about what to do and stating your DH is non confrontational. He isnt being asked to confront someone, it is a water leak and they need to be aware.

I had a washing machine that was plumbed in and I went away to scotland. Came back to find the fire brigade had been as there had been a massive leak which went to the flat underneath and the one underneath that. They didnt sit in their hands when i didnt answer the door.

Bahhhhhumbug · 18/11/2021 08:25

I used to work as a 999 operator and remember a couple of cases like this where turned out someone had collapsed whilst in or running a bath. If you think there is any possibility someone is in flat you should call at least the non emergency number, for advice, someone might need urgent help.

Excellent comment from @Nietzschethehiker

I have been through this. The leak is there for a reason - and it will only get worse.

Unfortunately my neighbour is an idiot and could not work out where it was coming from and essentially left it to me to sort out. Turned out he had a new washing machine fitted a few weeks before and was not connected to the water supply correctly. Not the brightest tool in the box he only made the connection once my entire ceiling was completely saturated, I had buckets on 75% of my kitchen floor space to stop the water going through my floor. I needed a new kitchen in the end.

Speak to your neighbour....photos help just to illustrate the issue.

MagicBlueberry · 18/11/2021 10:07

Well the leak doesn't appear to have got much worse over night, though in the natural light the damp lines are alot more obvious on DSs ceiling, but annoyingly don't show up on camera to show the extent to the letting agency Confused

For anyone still still muttering about my lack of penis and the effect of that on my decision making, had I not just got out of the shower, I would have just gone straight round to the neighbours. No need for permission from DH Grin even with DHs insistence it is unacceptable to knock on someone's door at that hour, I still would have popped round to let them know, I was just interested to see if I was In a minority in doing so or if DH was as batshit as I thought Grin

is this a joke? You have water damage on your ceiling and you havent gone up to the neighbours to sort it out?

Mylee · 18/11/2021 13:49

OP went to the neighbours last night and has tried contacting them. At least read her updates before getting sarcy with her

Well... That's embarrassing
BlitheringBlathers · 18/11/2021 14:46

I'm glad it hasn't gotten worse OP, have you managed to speak to the neighbour yet?

I do agree it is always best to act fast in these situations after having ignored a strange whooshing noise myself just before bed and then waking up at 1am to a saturated bedroom/upstairs hall carpets and dripping through the ceiling into a huge puddle downstairs Blush

MagicBlueberry · 18/11/2021 15:14

No, neighbours still arnt home.
I've let the letting agency know, their solution is to send a plumber to mine tuesday evening Confused

@theremustonlybeone no not a joke, I've been up a few times now to see if they are in. My post was more out of curiosity, "am I the odd one or is DH"...

SinoohXaenaHide · 18/11/2021 16:20

Sending a plumber to yours isn't much use is it! They won't be able to do a thing without access to the neighbour's flat and for all you know they could be away for a fortnight.

You can pay £2 to the Land Registry to find out who the legal owner of the upstairs flat is - it might be that it is owner-occupied but if it is rented out then you may be able to get in touch with their landlord for emergency access.

Take this seriously - waiting a week could mean the whole ceiling coming down and it becomes so much more of a nightmare.

TotallySuper · 18/11/2021 17:32

OP call 101 and explain see if the police/fire might consider gaining access.

Any sign of them, OP? @MagicBlueberry
Sparklfairy · 19/11/2021 12:19

@MagicBlueberry now you've let the agent know, it's in their hands (even though Tuesday is ages away). If the plumber takes a look and deems it urgent the agent can organise entry without the neighbour being there.
