To think Frugi has become the biggest con in the organic clothing market?

Ever since the original owners sold out!

Once upon a time I would happily splash £20+ on a dress or one of their fleeces. The quality was amazing, the colours were beautiful and bright and never faded, and I knew the clothes were worth the hefty investment as you'd get multiple kids out of one outfit - winning!

Now I'm lucky to get one wash out of an item before it looks like it's been dragged through a hedge backwards. Covered in bobble, colour faded beyond recognition and don't even get me started on how thin and cheap the snuggle suits are. Any they're only getting more expensive.

I bought a pair of trousers last year and they lasted one wash before being totally faded out and covered in bobble. When I emailed customer services they tried to tell me this was 'normal for organic clothing' and is' because they don't use harsh chemicals to colourfast.' Do they think everyone who messages CS has only just started buying Frugi? Like we know exactly what the quality SHOULD be like?

I don't know. I just feel like they are conning people into believing they are buying quality organic items - when in reality you cant rely on any of their clothing to last past a single wash any more. I recognize this is totally a first world problem - but for those if us who like buying ethically and will spend good money in order to do so, I can't help but feel we're being sold short on the quality.

Thank god for the second hand groups.

The vast majority of mine and my toddlers are frugi but I agree about the quality has gone downhill in recent years. I buy most of it Preloved so similar price to new mainstream clothing.

But 🤣🤣 at the extra in Mr tumble look...yes that's us! People always ask if my toddlers in his pyjamas....nope we just like bright clothes!

I've sadly been really unimpressed with Kite quality although I love the style. Jumpers stretched at sleeves, leggings shrunk and faded, every single skirt I have ever purchased shrinks after first wash.

Admittedly I only buy t shirts from Frugi but the ones I have seem to be withstanding washing much better than anything I bought from Kite. Will still never pay full price though, can't justify the cost for clothes they grow out of in one season.

PingedPotato · 16/11/2021 19:43

Next or H&M are my go tos. Has any one tried Mori? It's meant to be really soft.

Rldx2 · 16/11/2021 19:46

Most of my daughters clothes from the last two seasons have washed well, only one pair of leggings have faded quite badly after a few washes, it's the sizing I can't handle! I only buy in sales but I got her some leggings and a top for her birthday last month and I'll be surprised if she fits them properly by her next birthday... they're huge!!! So I'm worried she won't want to wear them when she eventually fits them 🙄 I'm sticking to next from now on, as pp has said they wash well and are nice designs for a reasonable price!

wheresmymojo · 16/11/2021 19:51

The costs involved have increased A LOT...

For example one shipping container from India/China to the UK used to be £1500 now it's £18,000!!!

Add to this increased costs of fabric.

Either you have to pay A LOT more for clothes or companies have to cut back on quality.

Most are doing a combination of both to try and make things work.

I love frugi from about 3 years ago but the styles have gone down a road I don’t like at all.
I’ve also found that all the more expensive brands- frugi, JoJo, Boden, John Lewis etc are really narrow across the shoulders/chest on tops/jumpers and I have to squeeze DC into them. The sizing is very small considering it’s supposed to last a year. The trousers and dungarees are absolutely fine. Has anyone else found this?

PingedPotato · 16/11/2021 19:53

LokihasafryingPan · 16/11/2021 19:55

I only buy a few bits from Frugi now it's just so different in style, sizing and design than it used to be. I've got stuff second hand from years ago that have been through multiple kids and still look great, yet the leggings I bought this year will lbe lucky to get through my DD, they just seem thinner and poorer quality.
I've been mainly buying from h&m I've been really impressed and they have the conscious range but it's not extortionate.
Overall I dont think Frugi is a standout in design and colour anymore, it's been getting duller as high street brands have been getting brighter.

Dogdogdogdoneit · 16/11/2021 20:04

I only really buy secondhand on the basis that (1) most secondhand stuff has already been washed so I’m not taking the risk of it being ruined after 1 wash (2) most stuff is crap these days so why pay more than a fiver Grin

Vinted is my friend although we also have good charity shops around here

flirtygirl · 16/11/2021 20:07

Hm cotton is very good and their eco credentials have been getting better and better.

Vote with your feet/wallet so frugi increases quality or shuts. Nothing changes until people people walk away from these brands.

PingedPotato · 16/11/2021 20:09

H&M conscious range is the same quality as the rest of their stuff. It's perfect sizes too.

Campfirewood · 16/11/2021 20:12

@wheresmymojo I thought frugi was UK made? Where’s it shipped from then?
More reason not to buy it if there’s a huge carbon foot print

Campfirewood · 16/11/2021 20:13

@PingedPotato my MIL bought us some H and M conscious range stuff and the quality is fantastic 👌

Eileen101 · 16/11/2021 20:14

I used to love frugi - most of mine has been through two children and sold on still looking great. My kids are in cloth so I've loved it for that too.
However I've been disappointed with the last few seasons too. I think bright clothes are great, but there's so much indigo this season, it just seems a mile away from where they were stylistically.
This price rise recently too Shock I've never brought anything full price and wait until the sales, but I'm not sure I'll even be doing that now.
I'm seeing more and more bright clothes in the high street places too now, so frugi is probably going to feature a lot less in the kids wardrobes now.
I could have spent several hundred pounds in Toby tiger though Confused

No, it's designed in the UK. It's made in several factories across India and Sri Lanka and China.

SkippettyDoDah · 16/11/2021 20:17

That's weird, I've been buying kids clothes from them for a few years and haven't seen any change in quality.

Icewiththat · 16/11/2021 20:18

Yep! Fade within a wash and shrink too. A pair of 2-3 joggers were instant hand-me-downs to my 9month old after one wash (and line dried!)

ballsdeep · 16/11/2021 20:19

I agree. I used to sell their clothes on after a good few wears and washes but now I can only sell as playwear the quality is so poor

Imohsotired · 16/11/2021 20:29

I used to love frugi but now I can’t stand it with the new drops and inevitable sales that come around quicker and quicker with every drop. I last got some rainbow dungarees for my youngest and they bobbled instantly.
I left all the Facebook groups too as I couldn’t get my head around the ethical stance vs hyping up every new product that was released.

NCkitchen · 16/11/2021 20:35

polarnopyret.co.uk

quality is still the best on the market in my opinion

Wellarentyouacleverdick · 16/11/2021 20:38

I agree. My eldest (nearly 6) had so much stuff from Frugi, Jojo, Joules and Boden. I had a load of Joules baby sleepsuits that did both her and her younger sister that I recently sold in a bundle that I got £70 for - they were fab quality.

Same with Jojo. I bought a £45 coat in size 18-24 and it lasted my (not tiny!) child until she was 3 then her sister wore it. Worth every penny. Recent purchases have been disappointing and some of the designs are still the same almost as the ones I bought years ago! I know they're 'classic' but come on! Their children's non slip tights were always my go-to but they're thin and go holey on the toes now too.

However I've found all of these brands have gone downhill over the last 2/3 years and I rarely buy new now or if I do, it's always in the sale. The quality just isn't worth the cost. Frugi is noticeably different - thinner cotton which bobbles and the quality of Joules tops is just awful, they shrink on a 30 wash with Fairy!

I don't love Frugi's designs anymore either. All those weird heifers. Nah. I've never worn the adult clothes.

Boden is still ok I've found, not so bad as the others but again, the price. Wow.

I tend to go for Next and H&M now and I've also been pleasantly surprised by George at Asda! I don't like a lot of the designs for tops etc they're very slogan-y but their kids jeggings and joggers are brilliant. Don't fade, are thick fabric and don't go baggy. They're always bloody sold out though!

I absolutely adore Frugi clothes and find their customer service amazing. Their clothes are colourful, beautiful and quirky, and they always have a selection of dog prints. I love them and I shop with them religiously!

MichaelAngeloScreamedAtMe · 16/11/2021 21:00

@Bex268 but can you honestly say every single item you’ve bought has washed beautifully?? No change in quality at all?

What does religious shopping look like?
TheCraicDealer · 16/11/2021 22:18

Sounds like frugi's plan for their S/S range MichaelAngeloScreamedAtMe. Appliqué top of David and Goliath, the latter with a severe head wound. Parsnip trousers printed with Lazarus rising from the dead and the odd bread roll and bit of fish dotted through. Snuggle fleece with our signature "10 plagues of Egypt" print.

It would be more interesting than their recent ranges to be fair.
