To think Frugi has become the biggest con in the organic clothing market?

Ever since the original owners sold out!

Once upon a time I would happily splash £20+ on a dress or one of their fleeces. The quality was amazing, the colours were beautiful and bright and never faded, and I knew the clothes were worth the hefty investment as you'd get multiple kids out of one outfit - winning!

Now I'm lucky to get one wash out of an item before it looks like it's been dragged through a hedge backwards. Covered in bobble, colour faded beyond recognition and don't even get me started on how thin and cheap the snuggle suits are. Any they're only getting more expensive.

I bought a pair of trousers last year and they lasted one wash before being totally faded out and covered in bobble. When I emailed customer services they tried to tell me this was 'normal for organic clothing' and is' because they don't use harsh chemicals to colourfast.' Do they think everyone who messages CS has only just started buying Frugi? Like we know exactly what the quality SHOULD be like?

I don't know. I just feel like they are conning people into believing they are buying quality organic items - when in reality you cant rely on any of their clothing to last past a single wash any more. I recognize this is totally a first world problem - but for those if us who like buying ethically and will spend good money in order to do so, I can't help but feel we're being sold short on the quality.

Thank god for the second hand groups.

They’re shite now.

RollneckJumper · 16/11/2021 16:32

Can't stand their clothing. I think it's hideous and overpriced

WheelieBinPrincess · 16/11/2021 16:33

I’m surprised to read this actually- I bought a few of their maternity dresses (in the sale, full price was quite ridiculous) and thought they were really good. They’ve washed fine.

WandaVision2 · 16/11/2021 16:34

I couldn’t agree more. I didn’t even get a reply when I contacted them

Starcaller · 16/11/2021 16:34

Yes, they don't wash well at all. The fleeces anyway. It's a shame as I will happily pay for quality but it is upsetting to wash something once and it be so altered.

MichaelAngeloScreamedAtMe · 16/11/2021 16:39

@Starcaller Their fleeces are an actual joke. £75 for an adult snuggle fleece? That won't last the winter? I don't spend that on a bloody raincoat and that gets me through far more years

Yep. I tend to buy secondhand anyway but the quality was such that it could be passed from child to child and still look great. Now it’s thin and cheap feeling. Not worth the expense IMO. I actually bought dd some new clothes yesterday, which is a rare thing but we needed some cheap trainers as hers seem to be getting covered in gunk at nursery, and I was pleasantly surprised by the prices and quality in Next, a lot of it for comparable prices I’ve been paying for secondhand ‘better’ brands. I know where I’ll be taking my money in future. I’ve noticed the same of the recent things I’ve bought from JoJo too, the quality isnt what it was a few years ago.

WheelieBinPrincess · 16/11/2021 16:40

Now Jojo Mamam quality has definitely gone down.

WheelieBinPrincess · 16/11/2021 16:40

So has White Company.

MichaelAngeloScreamedAtMe · 16/11/2021 16:42

They can't surely all be blaming Covid? That was another response I got from Frugi re their price hikes.

"Cotton costs more now due to Covid delays and issues with farming"

Okay cool so you hike the price and then just buy cheaper cotton anyway right? Sounds legit.

Greytminds · 16/11/2021 16:47

I only buy from Frugi in the sale at 50% off at least. Some items do still wash well but others are very disappointing. Full price items are not worth if.

Journeynotdestination · 16/11/2021 16:55

I find a lot of stores are like this now. It never used to be this way! Not sure whether it’s business rents going up or material prices. I buy seldom from the high street anymore even though I do at times have good cash to spend - the quality is just awful and the fabrics grim. Unless I’m prepared to pay £80+ for a top or £500 for a coat which I can’t afford. There’s very little good quality stuff at mid range prices. I look back 20-30 years ago and it was a totally different story. Natural, quality clothes for affordable prices. I tend to shop secondhand now on Vinted and charity shops to get decent things.

londonrach · 16/11/2021 16:58

Yanbu but only place that does skater dresses and in the sale same price as a supermarket dress. I don't wash the skater dress but just sponge. Alot of the clothes are awful and can't believe people wear them. I do like some of the t shirts. JoJo sadly not as good as used to be either. Secondhand old stock is best way forward. Saying that the supermarkets especially Sainsbury's and Morrisons now have JoJo and frugi looking clothes.

Tabbacus · 16/11/2021 17:00

When did it change? I used to buy a lot in the sale or secondhand and all was amazing quality, shame its not now.

TrickyD · 16/11/2021 17:00

I agree.

Frugi is sold by Babipur ,and the members of the cult post pictures on their site of adults wearing their unflattering dresses, generating a chorus of how lovely they look.

Just ghastly.

WheelieBinPrincess · 16/11/2021 17:00

I can’t even bring myself to buy things from the shops now. I get secondhand. Everything is just horrible.

PleasantBirthday · 16/11/2021 17:13

I stopped buying from them a while ago. It just seemed to get so ugly. They used to be extremely cute.

GrimDamnFanjo · 16/11/2021 17:23

What happened to the original owners? I remember when they were cut4cloth!

Monkeymilkshake · 16/11/2021 17:23

I find lots of brands are worse now.
Same with Boden - quality is really poor.
And Next clothes now shrink after 1 wash.
It’s so depressing. 1) i hate shopping so if i do ot i want clothes to last a long time and 2) from an eco point of view it’s really fast fast fashion - literally 1 use and they are gone

Daisychainsandglitter · 16/11/2021 17:25

YANBU- I recently bought DD1 a striped rainbow top from Frito and it faded and bobbled after just one wash. Very disappointing given the cost of the items they sell.

Daisychainsandglitter · 16/11/2021 17:28

*Frugi not Frito!

chalkyc2 · 16/11/2021 17:29

Yes @GrimDamnFanjo ! I used to buy lovely cord trousers and dungarees for cloth nappy clad DS1 who is now 12! I haven't looked at them since my boys outgrew them but shame they've gone downhill.

Hoowhoowho · 16/11/2021 17:31

For Frugi type stuff I go for Piccalilly now. That really washes well and is thick and good quality but no fleeces although their ponchos are great for toddlers . I only buy Frugi reduced or secondhand. Their tights still seem good.

Poppins2016 · 16/11/2021 17:33

@WheelieBinPrincess

Now Jojo Mamam quality has definitely gone down.
I agree. Same prices, but lower quality. My DD was given a gorgeous jumper for his birthday but it's mostly man made materials rather than pure wool as they used to be. Such a shame. ☹
TerribleCustomerCervix · 16/11/2021 17:38

I used to love their stuff but their recent collections have been really blah.

They had a few nice patterns so I bought a few pairs of their parsnip dungarees and trousers for toddler ds in the sale. Bobbled, lost their vibrancy and in the case of the trousers the elastic went within a few washes.

I will say that their snuggle fleeces are great, but who the fuck is spending £40+ on a toddlers jumper? No thanks, I’ll wait for the sale 👍🏼

And don’t start me on the adult stuff. Who is buying it?! The frugi Facebook page is full of nutters showing photos of themselves wearing unflattering skater dresses and looking like an extra from Mr Tumble.
