to think DP is being unfair? (lighthearted...well, relatively!)

DP and I are currently looking for a new (rental) home.

Found this beauty online, within search area and budget.

DP has said no, because we have no need for a pony paddock. And apparently getting a pony specifically to put in the paddock is even more unreasonable Grin

I consider this is very unfair, and have even offered to mow the extensive grounds and the paddock (no idea how, not sure my Flymo is up to the task!). However, he is not budging.

So either YABU - DP is right, this house is madness

or

YANBU - it's chocolate box perfection, get on to the letting agents asap.

You need it for the fire place alone

stripetop · 16/11/2021 09:24

It's because clearly, one pony is unfair, it needs a friend, then the friend needs a friend incase the first needs to go out, so you need at least three.Grin

4yroldhelp · 16/11/2021 09:25

LTB, get a pony and rent it immediately

kikipie · 16/11/2021 09:25

And a donkey

Chikapu · 16/11/2021 09:26

The house itself and the grounds are lovely but the interior is really nothing special so I'm with your partner.

Unsuremover · 16/11/2021 09:28

I agree that you need a donkey as well, but probably some chickens to um keep the weeks under control? Make the pony feel at home? I dunno but you nees some chickens.

I like your thinking Grin

However I suspect if I ask for 3 ponies this may tip him over the edge.

I did say Christmas is coming, but that held no dice.

Maybe I could ask for a donkey instead? He likes donkeys.

If you get a donkey you could start a nativity celebration each Christmas and do a walk through the village ending at your little paddock where you've built a stable and everyone can have mulled winter and gingerbread. It would be very jolly and you'd bring so much joy into so many peoples hearts, think of the children!

IntemperateSpirits · 16/11/2021 09:42

Get a llama. Take up knitting. Or get two and start doing llama walks.

This!!
Mydogisagentleman · 16/11/2021 09:44

I can’t believe how much house you get for your money.
IMO, your DP is being very unreasonable

Bluedabbadeedabbydye · 16/11/2021 09:45

Ah I love this! I actually vote LTB. It's so cute and I would kill for something like that at that price where I live Sad

TeeBee · 16/11/2021 09:45

I'm crying at how cheap it is! You NEED it. But you will also need a pony and a couple of goats (then your Flymo can rest easy).

girlmom21 · 16/11/2021 09:47

I think he's right. It's unfair to not get goats. Goats will keep the lawn short.

SW1amp · 16/11/2021 09:47

Get it, just so you can tell people you live in ‘Horton, it’s near Yorton’ Grin

Timeforabiscuit · 16/11/2021 09:48

In a parallel universe I am digging over that veg patch, a wolfhound has taken up permanent residence in front of that fire, and there is the smell of baking bread as soon as you go inside.

Just warn your dp that thinking practically is how people end up in new build suburbs just off the motorway with a North facing postage stamp sized garden made up of heavy clay and builders rubble.

girlmom21 · 16/11/2021 09:48

It's actually beautiful and I can't believe the price!

Beer2bed · 16/11/2021 09:51

Go for it. Looks amazing!

Totally of thread but I'm Shock at the price. Lucky to get a 2 bed terrace for that here.

ComtesseDeSpair · 16/11/2021 09:52

As a somewhat serious response, you could consider subletting the paddock out to somebody who does have livestock?

(Although perhaps there’s no money in that because the area is so affordable that people who want paddocks already have places with paddocks.)

Christmas1988 · 16/11/2021 09:54

What a gorgeous cottage! I’d buy it and the pony without consulting your DH?

OchonAgusOchonOh · 16/11/2021 09:57

Maybe I could ask for a donkey instead? He likes donkeys.

Donkeys are sociable animals and should never be kept on their own. You need two of them at least or they get depressed (why do you think Eeyore was always on such a downer?).

Although they can bond with horses so you could get a pony and a donkey.

sueelleker · 16/11/2021 10:18

It's fabulous. If the paddock is seriously the sticking point, could you find someone with animals that would borrow/rent it from you to keep the grass down?

Mrssebastianstan · 16/11/2021 10:21

I think I’d be looking at DP, then looking at this house, and saying darkly ‘don’t make me choose……’

Ducksurprise · 16/11/2021 10:23

Fuck me, I'd be hard pushed to find a flat for 950pcm where I live. Agree with others get it. He could always live in the paddock

StillWalking · 16/11/2021 10:26

Wow, it's stunning, but definitely needs at least one pony to finish it off.

Or, as pp said, sublet the paddock a local with a few sheep/goats/llamas if a sub let arrangement is permissible in the T&Cs.
