to think DP is being unfair? (lighthearted...well, relatively!)

DP and I are currently looking for a new (rental) home.

Found this beauty online, within search area and budget.

DP has said no, because we have no need for a pony paddock. And apparently getting a pony specifically to put in the paddock is even more unreasonable Grin

I consider this is very unfair, and have even offered to mow the extensive grounds and the paddock (no idea how, not sure my Flymo is up to the task!). However, he is not budging.

So either YABU - DP is right, this house is madness

or

YANBU - it's chocolate box perfection, get on to the letting agents asap.

Oh that's so cute!

BourbonScreams · 16/11/2021 10:28

Surely the Christmassy solution for the paddock is reindeer???

LemonKitten · 16/11/2021 10:33

I'd take that house like a shot!

But I'd demand a donkey, some chickens and a couple of goats to keep the grass down. Probably a couple of sheep too.

Once you have that menagerie, there's no harm in a rescue pony or two, right?

Hankunamatata · 16/11/2021 10:34

2 rescue donkeys Wink

MamDancer · 16/11/2021 10:38

@Unsuremover

I agree that you need a donkey as well, but probably some chickens to um keep the weeks under control? Make the pony feel at home? I dunno but you nees some chickens.
Stop with the poultryism. If OP has to have chickens, she has to have ducks too. And a pond. Plus attack geese to deter burglars.
GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 16/11/2021 10:39

It looks beautiful! And the price!

Wishimaywishimight · 16/11/2021 10:43

You need an alpaca too!

MsThinksAlot · 16/11/2021 10:43

@Chikapu

The house itself and the grounds are lovely but the interior is really nothing special so I'm with your partner.
Same. I was wondering what made it a "beauty". I suppose it's just the grounds for me.
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 16/11/2021 10:45

I live in a cheap part of The North where, according to MN, you can get a 4bed detached house for 20 quid, and even I think it's amazing value for money.

Get it.

MsThinksAlot · 16/11/2021 10:46

I do think it seems great value for the price.

My thought exactly, I would be investigating it closely, there has to be a reason it's so cheap!
Cherrysoup · 16/11/2021 10:49

No donkey! The noise they make is horrific. 2 mini horses, not ponies and definitely not shitlands. They are the devil’s work. Sublet for sheep if you aren’t horsey.

Doomscrolling · 16/11/2021 10:50

He’s insane, it’s absolutely gorgeous!

MsThinksAlot · 16/11/2021 10:50

@OchonAgusOchonOh

Maybe I could ask for a donkey instead? He likes donkeys.

Donkeys are sociable animals and should never be kept on their own. You need two of them at least or they get depressed (why do you think Eeyore was always on such a downer?).

Although they can bond with horses so you could get a pony and a donkey.

Do you think it's every donkey?

I mean people say humans are social and suffer without others but there are many people who're the opposite - they tend to get depressed with constant company and the pressure for regular socialising.

Just wondering.

idontlikealdi · 16/11/2021 10:51

That is CHEAP!! Have they made a mistake in the figures? The two bed terrace next to has just gone up for £1650 pcm.

I really need to move, have two pony obsessed kids. We could have three there!

ComtesseDeSpair · 16/11/2021 10:52

EPC at grade E with oil fired central heating and almost certainly a commitment in the tenancy agreement to maintain all that garden and land? It’ll cost an absolute fortune to run and once people look beyond the romanticism of a cute period property and a paddock I suspect they run away (or don’t stay very long once moved in.)

Winniemarysarah · 16/11/2021 10:52

@IntemperateSpirits

Get a llama. Take up knitting. Or get two and start doing llama walks.
Llamas are big and scary. I’d definitely consider a couple of alpacas though, they’re well cuter. Id buy a cheap van or trailer and get out some public liability insurance and do children’s parties. They charge an absolute fortune for that round here, I’ve booked them before and paid £100-£120 per hour. You’ll make a killing over the holidays doing Xmas/Easter visits when you can dress them in cute outfits and hand out advent calendars and eggs. Tell your partner it’s an investment Grin

To be fair a 2 bed terraced by us (midlands) would be about £550-650 a month depending on area. Are you further south?
TatianaBis · 16/11/2021 11:27

Amazing house for the price. Compared to all the hideous grotty bungalows/flats/terraces in the world.

Can you afford it on your own OP?

I’d take a very strong stand: house or quits.

TatianaBis · 16/11/2021 11:30

There is - it’s in the middle of nowhere.

furlockbones · 16/11/2021 11:32

The price is lowish for here but not massively so - Shropshire is pretty good value for housing generally as well as being very picturesque. I think what will be keeping the price a lit lower than the norm is that most people don't want the burden of that much land in a rental, plus it's a little bit out of the way, not sure how it sits for school catchments etc (not a problem for us thankfully).

As a guide, in Shrewsbury nice but fairly average 3 bed semis rent for at least £850, and well over £900 if they are close to the town centre. But generally the further out you go, prices do tend to be cheaper on the whole, even for larger properties/ more land.

@MsThinksAlot - Do you think it's every donkey?

No idea. There are probably exceptions but that is the general guidance. My sister has donkeys and they are definitely sociable with one another.

SarahAndQuack · 16/11/2021 11:52

It's gorgeous, go for it.

I agree with the PP who said you clearly need a paddock so your totally unreasonably DP can be banished there to live in his man-shed.

SarahAndQuack · 16/11/2021 11:56

Btw, I agree don't worry that the price is hiding something. It's just different areas of the country.

ImJustADaddy · 16/11/2021 11:56

Jesus thats unbelievable !!
That would be £3k a month easy where i live !
