Farting or blow off ?

459 replies

Cheekytea · 14/11/2021 19:20

Help settle a argument for me

My two and half year old finds it very funny she farts she smiles and giggles and tells everyone she farted,
Hubby not so impressed I taught her to saying farting and thinks the respectful term to teach her is " blow off " or other phrases so I'm asking you all what do you call farting in your household ? And what do they say in school etc

Thanks

@KloppsTeeth - not much makes me laugh out loud before 7am. Wonderful post thank you for wafting so eloquently over the airwaves.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 15/11/2021 06:58

Fizzy bum - when kids were younger , now they just say fart.

UseOfWeapons · 15/11/2021 07:15

Fart.
They are very funny.

Octopus37 · 15/11/2021 07:47

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll just had to find that song, it made me laugh so much

Trixiefirecracker · 15/11/2021 07:49

Tommy Squeeker! 😂

Any expulsions in my house are normally followed by 'that's a good'un' 🤣

My DH sings “The Trumpet Shall Sound” when I fart
Bell25 · 15/11/2021 08:45

My DH says poop , I don’t understand it , poop is something very different in my eyes.
It was quite confusing at first and it still makes me die a bit inside when he says it.

I’ve also heard pop off before which is utterly bizarre , I’m just going to pop off…to the shops

Welshiefluff · 15/11/2021 09:22

@MaxNormal

It very much does in Glasgow. I am as certain as I can be that Chaucer would have been a fart man, although I can also imagine him writing hilarious verse eluding cleverly to the many possible permutations of the act

@icedcoffees

Well, yes, it does where I come from hmm It's otherwise known as a "pump and dump" - in other words, a ONS that leads to pregnancy.

Again. No it does not literally mean sex. It might be common slang for sex in some areas. But it most certainly is not the literal meaning of the word.

Otherpeoplesteens · 15/11/2021 09:43

Fart for us too. DD4 finds it hilarious, which is just as well as I'm convinced she'd blast off into outer space if our house didn't have a roof. My gawd, she farts. Proper window rattlers.

GladAllOver · 15/11/2021 09:54

If fart is good enough for the NHS it's good enough for me.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 15/11/2021 09:57

@Starcaller

God I hate all the twee and cutesy words. It's a fart.
This - what the fuck is wrong with everyone being so prissy?:

“Again. No it does not literally mean sex. It might be common slang for sex in some areas. But it most certainly is not the literal meaning of the word.”

But that’s a bit like saying ‘fuck’,which has a whole host of other meanings and originally meant ‘beat’ doesn’t mean to have sex.

IARTNS · 15/11/2021 10:09

Trumps, but seeing the term pop has brought back memories - I'd completely forgotten we used to call it that when I was little.

Or "ooh a motorbike" for a proper pant ripper Grin

Otherpeoplesteens · 15/11/2021 10:12

Or "ooh a motorbike" for a proper pant ripper

I once farted in the lift as a young child and the next door neighbour mum said I sounded like a motorbike.

In the same vein, we had "machine gun" for ones that sounded like automatic firearms.

TheVeryDoggyDogperson · 15/11/2021 10:16

"Fart" is correct. "Blow off" is a genteelism and as such should be avoided.

lifesgoodwithlg · 15/11/2021 10:19

A fart is a fart, think it's very strange for people to introduce cutsie words to describe normal bodily functions or parts. I would have no idea what half of the alternative words refer yo.

@warmeduppizza

Doesn’t anyone pass wind anymore?
Yep. Pass wind here.
sybillalle · 15/11/2021 10:22

@JurgensCakeBaby

😂😂😂 I didn't mean Gary, I meant fart, even my autocorrect doesn't like it!!
😂😂
BorisKilledMyHusband · 15/11/2021 10:24

My grandad used to say “who wombled?” If he smelled something suspect.

sybillalle · 15/11/2021 10:25

@Starcaller

Whoops, I've just dropped a massive Gary, sorry everyone.
🤣🤣 I'm so childish, giggling away at this thread. It's lovely.
sybillalle · 15/11/2021 10:27

@MrsJohnBender84

Windy pops, Whizz bangs, Bum explosions, Guffreys and Farty boom booms in our house....don't think your husband would like us much 🤣
🤣 sounds like a fireworks display!! Oh dear 😂
sybillalle · 15/11/2021 10:34

@Badabingbadabum

Trump, bum trump or just breaking wind. Although my two dds are aware of fart and use it occasionally which I'm fine with - it's not exactly a swear word! Blow off is awful.

Thanks to my dm I grew up calling them creepy mouses. As in "have you done a creepy mouse?" Blush I think if there was a prize for the most twee, cringworthy, Victorian name for a fart, this would win it!

😂 oh gosh I'm going to get to the bottom of this thread and it'll just be me giggling at everything!

A creepy mouse! 😂 that's so fucking weird and halloweenish! I don't like the image of a shy rodent emerging from a backside 🤣

TabithaTumbler · 15/11/2021 11:28

I remember nearly dying of laughter in a (busy) Ladies Toilets once. Showing my age here….Someone a few doors down did a splendid fart, it echoed around the bowl and brought immediate silence to the room. Then someone in the cubicle next to me said, “I’ll name that tune in one”.🤣🤣😭😭🤣🤣

Ha ha that's great 😂😂

@Summerfun54321

Blow off was a very popular West Country term for fart back in my day at school. It featured in the playground rhyme: “fatty and skinny went to bed, fatty blew off and skinny was dead”.
we used to say fatty & skinny went up in a balloon, fatty let a fart off & blew skinny doon (north west england VERY NORTH WEST)
