I have a craft fair in 1 week so doing some last minute bits. I have never done one before. How much would you pay for this toy for a cat? It's a catnip teabag toy

Is that for cats to play with as is or to fit inside something else as a catnip refill?

My cats would shred that teabag fabric in seconds and the catnip would then be all over my house.

SparklyLeprechaun · 14/11/2021 15:00

That wouldn't last 5 minutes once my cat gets its claws in it. It's about a quid for a catnip mouse so 50p, maybe?

MerylSqueak · 14/11/2021 15:01

That was my first thought too, I'm afraid to say.

LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer · 14/11/2021 15:02

It's organza fabric not paper if that's any help.

FingersofFish · 14/11/2021 15:02

Is it just a sachet of catnip? I would say 50p depending on what's in it, I think Poundland sometimes do a sachet but it's a bit bigger.

FelicityBeedle · 14/11/2021 15:03

I’ve made similar, cat tips open fabric in approx 30 seconds, and that was with a heavier cotton. Then you need to wrestle soggy fabric from cat to stop them eating it

stravagante · 14/11/2021 15:04

It would be decimated in three seconds here and then all over the floor. You could try putting quilting cotton in for the catnip and then covering with organza if you want the effect...but most nip toys have to be robust as the cats shred them.

LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer · 14/11/2021 15:05

Oh crap....... I was only thinking £1 per bag which will cover costs of materials ect.

LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer · 14/11/2021 15:06

I liked the effect that it looked like an actual teabag... Nevermind you live and learn am also doing catnip kickers which are quite robust. Grin

ScottishNewbie · 14/11/2021 15:07

I have two quite calm cats and that would be immediately destroyed. I would also worry about them eating the organza to get to the catnip.
I pay about £4 - £6 for catnip toys on Amazon, so maybe if you add something around the bag, that could be a good price point?

Lockheart · 14/11/2021 15:07

Between the easily rippable fabric and the tag on a nice long string I'd be far too worried about it presenting a health harzard if eaten.

LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer · 14/11/2021 15:10

This is a major help thanks everyone this is why I love mumsnet!

Cat nip knickers sound ace 👍

LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer · 14/11/2021 15:13

Would these be any better on a stick from the tag?

Do you have a cat @LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer? Grin

LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer · 14/11/2021 15:15

No can you tell I have a dog. I love cats but my DH is allergic Sad

Agree with others , a shredding hazard in the making .

On another note, many cats don’t get excited by catnip but do by valerian. It’s quite hard to find the valerian ones but I would definitely buy those if I saw them at a craft fair. The catnip ones are easily available in the pound shop etc.

LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer · 14/11/2021 15:17

Oooooo noted thank you!

You need to find friends with cats to be your product testers!

LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer · 14/11/2021 15:20

My sister has a huge mainecoon cross that can definitely be a tester.

LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer · 14/11/2021 15:21

Unless anyone on here is willing to test one out for me am more than happy to send one out.

Nothing, it's dangerous IMO.

Shellingbynight · 14/11/2021 15:28

I agree with all the comments, it wouldn't last two minutes. And the string is an absolute no-no on any cat toy. A cat is likely to eat string and end up having surgery to remove it (speaking from experience).

What you need is a 'pillow shape', with robust stitching so it doesn't come apart.

My cats like valerian as well as catnip. The valerian pillows I buy are 2 for £2.49.

£0

Sorry. But it’s not going to last and frankly looks dangerous.

authenticforgery · 14/11/2021 15:39

Nothing, sorry 😬
