I have a craft fair in 1 week so doing some last minute bits. I have never done one before. How much would you pay for this toy for a cat? It's a catnip teabag toy

Op do you know any cats? You need to test your products.

My aging moggy would destroy the toys in seconds and drag the cat beds off the windowsill. I personally think that there's a huge amount of choice around cat toys and beds from firms who have done their work around safety and longevity. I wouldn't buy anything for my pet from anywhere that hadn't done this

They are non slip and have nonslip stuff under them. This is maybe not going to be a success I thought Sad

Agree, no feathers.

The issue with crochet/knitted products is that cats like knead things, and their claws will SO easily get stuck in those beds and rip them to shreds.

I only use fleece for my cats beds and blankets for several reasons:

  • they don't get their claws stuck in it
  • it's easy to wash and tumble dry
  • it's cheap to replace when it wears out
  • when they knead it (which they will) they don't destroy it straight away.

I think your ideas are lovely but they're just not practical for what cats will use them for. One of my cats really panics if he gets his claw caught in something so a crochet bed would be too dangerous for him. He would get really upset if he got caught in it and couldn't escape, and I'm not always home to "help" him.

Have a look at catnip toys like these for inspiration.

Any toys you make need to be durable and virtually indestructible (you don't want anything to get stuck on claws/teeth or be swallowed).

I would buy any of the beds for my 3 cats!! Do you sell online?? Yes
MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 14/11/2021 17:14

OP you’re in the wrong market. You’re trying to make and sell products that you have no experience of using. Stick to what you know. You know dogs. Make things your dog likes and uses without issue.

I will note though that if you are making any food products for dogs, that is a very strictly regulated area with lots of requirements to be met so make sure you are doing that and make sure it’s still profitable when you do. Otherwise- no point.

@10yearwarranty

I'm trying to work out what a kicker is...
I misread it and thought she said catnip knickers, I was even more confused 🙀
Jackthementalkitten · 14/11/2021 17:36

I’d happily test something for you op ( I’d pay the postage) my cats are pretty boring and only whack things around the floor. It’s the dog who destroys everything!

Nope not doing dog food but I am selling already packaged high quality branded treats.

Op, do you have a Facebook page or etsy etc? Would love to see more. Our cat is slowly becoming a more indoor cat as he ages and loves a fluffy blanket type bed. Would love to see what you make etc

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 14/11/2021 20:07

20p. It'd last seconds and the nip would end up everywhere.

DoraChance · 14/11/2021 20:29

Agree with previous comments. Cat stuff needs to be really sturdy - consider that you're making products for an animal that can bite the head off a mouse or and bird with consummate ease. Love your stained glass window OP. Good luck.

Wrenflutter · 14/11/2021 21:18

The teabag things are trash. Are the feathers pet safe? I read about the dyes used on feathers on some cheap toys being poisonous to animals. Which is why I only buy quality toys from respected companies.

My cat has something similar from zooplus he loves it
OnTheBoardwalk · 14/11/2021 21:29

Those cat toys and beds look dangerous. I only use a fleece on the chair for my cat due to her getting stuck on other blankets

Why try to make and sell things you don’t know about? Concentrate on what you do like dogs but please be aware of safety considerations for dogs

Does your insurance cover you if products are unsafe like the teabags and possibly the feathers?
