DD1 was 7yo last saturday, all she was bought as gifts was bratz and barbie, fortunately she hates it all as much as I do, gave it all to her 2yo sister. I can't understand the appeal at all. i feel bullied by all the branding, not just with bratz, but clothing too. I think it draws all the individuality from our kids, wanting to be the same, think the same. It's not how I want my DDs to grow up

pukkapatch · 13/12/2007 20:30

agree with you.

Chuffinnora · 13/12/2007 20:33

I really hate all the Bratz stuff. Vile ugly dolls with matching attitudes.

lojomamma · 13/12/2007 20:37

My sis asked me to buy my 4yr (5 in Jan) neice a Bratz doll, and was quite put out when I said no. I AM also put out that she was ticked, because I have never said no before.

EmsMum · 13/12/2007 20:49

Totally reasonable!

The only bratz and barbies my DD has are ones given to her on birthdays... mainly chosen by the mother's of boys I think. She only plays with them ironically.

andyrobo237 · 13/12/2007 20:54

they are the most ugly dolls in the universe with odd hair! But why do the little darlings love them so much! I refuse to buy DD any Bratz stuff, but cant stop others - I just dont offer it as an option!!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 13/12/2007 20:55

I really wanted to use Bratz dolls for the school competition on making a Nativity scene. But decided not to endure all those worthy po-faces.

YANBU - they are disgusting!

Nightynight · 13/12/2007 22:04

no bratz in this house either.

I quite like Barbie though she is sweet and gentle, not pouty and sulky.

karen999 · 13/12/2007 22:06

My dd loves bratz stuff! I don't see the problem. They are just dolls. I played with cabbage patch dolls - now they were ugly!!

islandofsodor · 13/12/2007 22:08

YANBU. Dd knows not to even ask. She tells everyone, Mummy doesn't like Bratz.

paddingtonbear1 · 13/12/2007 22:15

i hate Bratz, dd will not be getting any. Barbie is not quite so bad.
my friend keeps saying she'll buy dd some bratz to wind me up. I know she won't though..she wouldn't dare!

EricScrooge · 13/12/2007 22:18

I don't have a problem with the dolls - it's the clothing range.

I nearly had a heart attack at the mini skirts and crop tops. They would have made a kid look like a whore.

The americans seem to think that this is normal though - dressing their kids up as adults.

Not nice at all.

smartiejake · 13/12/2007 23:14

Think the shoes are freaky! (Taking the feet off too!) They look so wierd with their large lollypop heads! However don't think the dds really think about them in the same way we do.

stickybun · 14/12/2007 00:41

Have never revealed to 8 yr. old daughter quite how much i hate them. However, did say that thought dolls ought to look like someone you could be friends with. Did she think they looked like nice friend or someone who would bully you/try to shove your head down loo? Haven't heard anything since - at the time she said they they 'looked a bit mean'. Obviously cowards way out of trying to explain 'crack whore' but seemed to work! It's the glazed eyes that get me!

JoyeuxNoelBiggy · 14/12/2007 00:46

YANBU!

Ref the Cabbage Patch comparison - there's a difference between ugly and slaggish!

slim22 · 14/12/2007 00:46

agree wholeheartedly. Don't have a daughter yet but already freaking out when I see girlie toys on offer.

BananaPudding · 14/12/2007 04:28

Don't paint all Americans with the bratz brush, Eric. Lots of us disagree with dressing small children and their dolls in inappropriate adult clothing just as you do.

In our house they are called ProstiTots. Dd thinks they look like aliens.

coldtits · 14/12/2007 09:02

I hate the notion that if your feet don't fit in the shoes you want to wear - you don't modify your idea of a sensible shoe. No. You change your feet.

Nose not cute enough - that's Ok, don't have a nose then. Who needs a sense of smell when you could look cool instead?

Cover up my midriff and don't pierce my naval? But I'm nine years old! That would be, like the biggest drag ever! How can I look sexy if you make me dress like a little kid? Who needs puberty when you can have a push up bra and whore shoes?

Like, who is Lolita anywayz?
