Am I being ripped off?

Got recommendation for a local Brickie to come and repoint the exterior if the garage wall and fix some cracked bricks from settlement of old extension. He quoted me £450 for two days work including materials. He turned up about 10 this morning and has just left. The wall looks better than it did and when he left he said make it £400. I haven't paid him yet as am waiting for DH to have a look when he gets home but for the time he was here I'm a bit reluctant to pay him £400. DH said we agreed on a price so can't really not pay him but he was also here less than a day so surely he should have knocked a bit more of the cost off no?

AIBU? and if not what can I say to him for him to accept a lower price?

Huh?! If you’re happy with the job then pay him.

I wouldn’t care if it took him an hour as long as the job was done to standard and I was happy with the cost to fix the overall problem.

You will probably have to pay the fee now, especially if you are happy with the job done. Some builder people do jobs at a faster rate than others, and if the guy is a reputable builder, and known to others, he will base his charges,on what other builders charge for a similar job..

Pay! Think more before you enter an agreement next time. I appreciate it feels awful to thunk you have been ripped off though.

I would pay him half and tell him to crack on and take you to small claims court if he feels so justified

He told you how much the job would cost. He did the job and then gave you a discount. YABU.

I can't work out if it's an optical illusion because of the cement pointing being wet but are the bricks standing proud of the main part of the wall to the right of the work he did?
Were they protruding before he did the work?
Also, did he visit the site before he quoted you for the work or not?

That might determine whether I would pay the agreed £400 or if I'd challenge him and agree to pay £300 and bid him a good day!
