Is £80-£90 a week grocery shopping tomuch?

Newmumlake · 09/11/2021 20:05

My partner has recently had a go at me that our weekly shop is far to expensive.

I usually shop at Asda using the click and collect service.

I will spend £80-£90 on groceries for 7 days. This includes 7 lunches, 7 dinners, snacks, cleaning products, baby produces, and dog food.

Is this too much?

Sounds fine to me, can you afford it? If you’ve got the money I don’t see the issue.

SandysMam · 09/11/2021 20:08

For how many of you?

gingerroot · 09/11/2021 20:08

I spend this on two adults

boobot1 · 09/11/2021 20:09

No, I wish I only spent that! There are 3 of us and a dog I spend about double that. Food is just so much more expensive than it used to be and I like a few luxuries.

kowari · 09/11/2021 20:10

Depends how many people, how old any children are, and what your budget is like. I spend £40 (adult and teen boy).

Newmumlake · 09/11/2021 20:10

2 adults, a baby and a Yorkie dog

I could easily spend that on just me and the dog if I wanted to!

EatYourVegetables · 09/11/2021 20:11

We spend around that for 2 adults and 2 kids. Includes all lunches (except kids on workdays in term time get theirs in school), all dinners, breakfasts for all, snacks, fruit, toiletries, cleaning products, a small amount of alcohol.

If it seems much, think about what it would cost to go out for just 1 meal a week with drinks.

Crumblinginside · 09/11/2021 20:11

If you're buying baby stuff there are at least 3 of you and a pet. That's really good I think.

nordica · 09/11/2021 20:11

That doesn't sound like too much at all - I spend that some weeks just for me (I live alone) if I need to buy any toiletries or household/kitchen stuff.

thefirstmrsrochester · 09/11/2021 20:11

It sounds fine to me, I shop for 4 of us, the DC are older teens, and we also have a cat. All in I’m usually £150-60 a week. And struggling to keep it under that some weeks as the cost of everything is going up. If you have it in your budget to spend £80-90 I don’t see what your DH has to complain about.

ArchibaldsDaddy · 09/11/2021 20:11

Good grief…that’s seriously economical. I’ve spent that on popping out to get something for Saturday dinner!

Your partner needs to get his area up to Asda and do better if he thinks £90 for a week is profligate! I suspect he’s in for a shock.

iwishiwasafish · 09/11/2021 20:14

If you can afford it, then it’s not too much.

Our ranges from £120-£150 per week for 4 adult-sized-people.

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 09/11/2021 20:15

@gingerroot

I spend this on two adults
Me too
MilduraS · 09/11/2021 20:16

£70-£80 is my budget shop for two and doesn't include our cat food or cat litter.

SusannahD · 09/11/2021 20:16

Food has gone up, family of 3 and spend about £90 a week.

TheNinny · 09/11/2021 20:17

Not at all

cowburp · 09/11/2021 20:18

Let him have a go and see if he can do better. Bet he can't without forgetting something important like nappies.

DesdemonaDryEyes · 09/11/2021 20:18

It’s all relative though.

What percentage of your income is it?

Well, I'd offer to step back and let him show you how it is done.
DroopyClematis · 09/11/2021 20:18

No, its not.
Why is he saying this?

riotlady · 09/11/2021 20:19

I think that’s great tbh, we spend about £100 a week on 2 adults and a 3yo.

PurpleHydrangea1 · 09/11/2021 20:19

Ours in approximately £120-140pw but that includes nappies for two (eldest has additional needs), meat from butchers, organic dairy, two lots of food requirements. All meals, snacks, drinks. We rarely drink/eat out even for coffee etc.
Cleaning stuff is separate and seldom toiletries.

PurpleHydrangea1 · 09/11/2021 20:20

2 adults, 2 small kids

Crabwoman · 09/11/2021 20:20

2 adults, 2 kids, 1 dog about 130-50 a week.
