A DPD driver will give me the money? Really?!

I'm just trying to sell a full sized keyboard.

Someone is keen, she said she will send a DPD driver tomorrow, he will give me the money and I don't need to package it.

Is that real? Can that really happen? I've not heard of this before?

Scam

rattlemehearties · 08/11/2021 16:09

Definitely do not do this

VickyEadieofThigh · 08/11/2021 16:10

Sounds scammy to me.

PlausibleSuit · 08/11/2021 16:10

Scam. (Or naivity.) DPD or indeed any courier 100% won't do this, they won't handle cash on behalf of anyone else.

ChatterMonkey · 08/11/2021 16:11

Total and well known scam.

Before selling things of a decent value online, it may be worth doing some research into what sort of scams you might come across.

TotallySuper · 08/11/2021 16:11

Scam, block them.

Brieandcamembert · 08/11/2021 16:12

Scam. I've had them try it on me. You pay them and the driver will give you the cash back is how the scam often goes.

SpamIAm · 08/11/2021 16:12

Oh I had the most convoluted one the other week. She was going to send the money via courier and when the money arrived I must immediately package the item which would be collected by another courier or something. If it sounds complicated it's probably a scam. Normal people just pay by PayPal...

Underbox · 08/11/2021 16:12

Scam. DPD won't do that. Ever.

pollypaula · 08/11/2021 16:12

Well known scam!

girlmom21 · 08/11/2021 16:13

DPD don't courier money. I used to work for them.

tallduckandhandsome · 08/11/2021 16:13

Hmm it’s a tricky one. On one hand at least the cash will be handed to you. On the other, what is she says you never gave her the item?

I know eBay has a service where courier companies can bid to delivery the parcel, but it’s all done via eBay so you would have had proof that tye item was collected/delivered.

What is the selling platform?

ItsAllAboutTheLighting · 08/11/2021 16:13

Well known scam?!

Fuckers!

I've sold so so much stuff online and never come across this.

Thanks for the insight!

And yes, that’s beside the whole point of why or how the driver would have the buyer’s cash.

ItsAllAboutTheLighting · 08/11/2021 16:14

It was FB MP

Why would OP pay the buyer?
JemIsMyNameNooneElseIsTheSame · 08/11/2021 16:17

Well known scam unfortunately.

Helenluvsrob · 08/11/2021 16:24

Scam scam scamity scam

ThatLibraryMiss · 08/11/2021 16:26

Why would OP pay the buyer?

Could be a variation on: I've accidentally paid the courier £500 for an item costing £50 and I can't get it back, so they'll be giving you a cheque for £500. Please send me the £450 change. PayPal friends and family would be best, because I won't have to pay a fee on it. I can't pay you using PayPal because I've lost the card that's linked to my PP account.

The courier gets the item, the cheque bounces, PayPal say that as you sent the money F&F and not as payment for goods or services they can't do anything. You've lost the item and paid £450 for the privilege.

Bluetrews25 · 08/11/2021 16:28

Gosh, every day's a school day!
News to me too, OP.

hamsterchump · 08/11/2021 16:29

I've had this several time on Facebook marketplace, eve for low value items which is bizarre. It's a scam, if you say yes apparently they as you to buy insurance for the transaction. If you fancy a laugh OP you can always try scambaiting them to waste some of their time? Can be quite funny.

Oh I see.

I can’t imagine OP would fall for that, but I imagine some do,

TinnedPotatoesRock · 08/11/2021 16:36

I advertised a bike and had this with a buyer from Belgium, she said she'd send the money with UPS and I just needed to hand the bike over and they'd give me the cash. Yeah nah

I've had this too, for an item worth £15!

This was also on FB MP. I thought it might be a scam, but I mainly ignored it because it seemed like too much hassle, glad I did now!
