National anthem at wedding ?

Getting married at Windsor Guildhall next year . Windsor being the key point here.
We went to look around yesterday and I was surprised how emotional it made me feel . It was so overwhelming with all the history in one room .
My fiancé is Windsor born and bred hence he is very patriotic.
He goes along with the flow on most things and seriously doesn't ask for much .
BUT we were told yesterday that we needed to have 6 songs at the start of the ceremony then one for my entrance and then 3 for when we are signing the register. He wants to have two verses of the national anthem played after Ive come in and just before we start out marriage bit with the registrar.
Im quite liking the idea .
Its not too put there is it ?

I'd cringe terribly, but I'm not invited so that doesn't matter.

It's a hard no from me.

It's your wedding though so if that's what you want to do then do it. Though I would expect raised eyebrows.

@GrumpyPanda
🤣

what do you think about Despacito for walking out music though?

Aww. Now that's no fun!!

Does anyone know all of the second verse lyrics? I can only remember the first part.

ChaToilLeam · 07/11/2021 17:32

Unless you are the queen, it seems a rather pompous thing to do.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 07/11/2021 17:42

I don’t think Jerusalem is unusual at a church wedding is it?

But yeah don’t get the national anthem thing at all OP. Very odd.

I think a loyal toast at a wedding is also quite unusual these days. The only place I’ve seen it done is at formal dinners of things my parents were involved in - charities etc. Where else is it used these days?

Never mind the second verse, it'd be a start if people got the first verse right! Contrary to common belief (football anyway) it ends 'God save THE Queen' not 'our' Queen (or team).

I do know the second verse (sad) but I'm too lazy to copy itWink

I think it was Pratchett who said that the second verse of anthems should be dum de dum dum da because that's what everyone sings anyway.

Except Scottish people, who know every word of the offensive verse about them.

Crikeyalmighty · 07/11/2021 18:38

Having lived in Windsor before I would be surprised if you even heard it over the flightpath noise, seriously though OP I would burst out laughing, which is fine if you and your fiance dont give a stuff what folks think , I vow to give my country is much nicer if you want something of that ilk

Cillmantain · 07/11/2021 18:43

Totally pompous and cringeworthy.
Just don't.

Double3xposure · 08/11/2021 00:22

@KatherineofGaunt

We usually only sing verses one and three

God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen:
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us:
God save the Queen.

O Lord our God arise,
Scatter her enemies,
And make them fall:
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On Thee our hopes we fix:
God save us all.

Thy choicest gifts in store
On her be pleased to pour,
Long may she reign.
May she defend our laws,
And ever give us cause,
To sing with heart and voice,
God save the Queen.

Many many years ago a famous woman made the comment that young people don't know the National Anthem. She was due to address our Prize Giving evening later that week and we, the prefects with some help from some staff, managed to get the first three verses printed off and at the end of the evening we carried on singing after the organ had played the first verse, the Head was going purple with anger! The Speaker acknowledged our prank with touchee, and told the Head there should be no recriminations,

There are a few more too, some unfit for modern ears!
