Greggs as good as / better than Krispy Kreme

Krispy Kreme are held up as the gold standard of doughnuts and don’t get me wrong, they’re nice. But they’re deeply overrated and overpriced and Greggs filled doughnuts are just as nice. AIBU?

I'm still mentally scarred by going to a Krispy Kreme store in the US. I asked for a chocolate drink and the extra from Deliverance behind the counter refused to sell it to me as I wouldn't like it. He would only sell me some grapefruit slush. I tried to explain I don't like grapefruit but he wasn't having it. By this time a couple of men were watching what was going on with interest so I ended up buying the vile grapefruit slush with my doughnut and getting out quickly! It put me off Krispy Kremes!

Co-op custard doughnuts are amazing!! I used to love the Tesco or Asda ones too, but I don’t know what’s going on with supermarket doughnuts lately, the sugar seems to be melting into a sticky mess and the doughnut is all tough and yuck. That’s all flavours not just the custard.
In reference to the OP, I do like a Krispy Kreme, but I love a Gregg’s doughnut. Especially the sugar strand iced ring! Yummy.

Although fresh made doughnuts that you get from the beach are the ultimate 😋😋😋

Yes, especially if you get and eat them just as they're put out when they're super fresh!

You can't go wrong with a Gregg's Pink Jammie.

Years ago Krispy Kreme did a Christmas special iced custard donut. That was the best ever. Sadly not repeated

Crispy Kreme are horrid. They always taste like they're off even if they're just fresh and they're expensive considering they're complete toilet

Yep the chocolate covered and filled ones stand head and shoulders above Krispy Creme!

I usually get dh to get me one if he pops into Lidl on the way home from work. Can’t beat it!

Yes! We ordered a box of these as a treat and they were fantastic!

Krispy Kreme doughnuts are so sugary, I find them hard to finish and can feel the effects of the sugar for hours afterwards.

I like the Bread Ahead donuts from Borough market but their price has steady increased over the last few years from an expensive treat to a price that is not worth paying.

Greggs are way better than Krispy Kremes, but my favourite is a Lidl jam donut.

DS is an ASD teen and very choosy about his KK doughnuts. I bought him a proper fresh doughnut from Doughnotts, he said it was good but he prefers KK all the same. The repeatability of chain food wins every time.

I like KK and never had Greggs before.

The best donuts I've ever had were from a small mom and pop bakery where I went to uni. I have no idea if they are in business anymore but I have fond memories of going by to get one on cold mornings freshly baked nice and warm with a cup of coffee.

I guess it depends on what you want from your doughnut. I love fillings (chocolate, custard, apple - all of it) so Greggs is never doing to hit it for me.

A decent donut should not need icing, jam, cream or any other filling. It should be served hot fresh from the griddle.

Surely what a decent doughnut is is subjective?

Ok, I understand that some people prefer normal donuts, fine, but calling Krispy Kreme "gross" and "disgusting" 🤣 bit much.
Greggs are oy OK. Used to love the punk jammie ones but the last time I had one they seemed to have changed the icing and it just wasn't the same. Had a cheap plastic taste.

I like KK but they are so different to the traditional version. My local bakery does the perfect sugary jam doughnut.
