I didn’t like this - would you have felt the same?

I had a cleaner start today - never had one before so was very excited!

I’d planned to be out of her way when she was here, but as it happened I got home about 30 mins early to see she was cleaning barefoot.

I felt really odd about this. Would anyone else have felt the same?

You can't micromanage someone to the point of insisting they wear special cleaning slippers!

You most certainly can if they are working in your home and you provide them. If they don't like it they are welcome to quit and work for someone else.

RogueV · 03/11/2021 23:10

Don’t see the problem

Shirazboobaloo · 03/11/2021 23:10

@Aquamarine1029 “employer’s house”?! Get over yourself

gofg · 03/11/2021 23:13

If they had any sense they would quit - and the person employing them might just have to clean their own house. Oh the horror!

Smallkeys · 03/11/2021 23:14

Odd perhaps but I would t mind ? What is it you don’t like. To be honest not clocked what my cleaner wears but think she does wear her shoes. Last cleaner I am sure cleaned in socks ...

Summerdayshaze · 03/11/2021 23:14

I wouldn’t care one bit.

Esspee · 03/11/2021 23:15

I would prefer she wore socks but would find bare feet far preferable to shoes. Nobody wears shoes in my house, I find that disgusting.

Rogue1001 · 03/11/2021 23:16

This thread surely wins points as the most surreal

The hamster ate my bidet nods sagely

CrazyTimesAreOccurring · 03/11/2021 23:25

@Mangofandangoo

Oh please just shut up and be thankful that you have someone doing your cleaning for you.

I mean really.

Why should she be grateful to have employed and be paying someone to do her cleaning?

The cleaner isnt doing it for free, and I expect the OP works to be able to afford it.

What a strange thing to say

hotmeatymilk · 03/11/2021 23:25

I would struggle to care even the smallest, tiniest jot about this.

SunLovingMummy · 03/11/2021 23:28

Mine clean barefoot. Shoes off at the door. No problems with this at all.

StarryNightSparkles · 03/11/2021 23:32

I think not wearing shoes and going bare feet is really unprofessional and unhygienic. I would ask her politely to wear shoes.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 03/11/2021 23:34

I wouldn't like it. I don't want verrucas, athlete's foot etc, and I don't go barefoot in communal areas. Socks or flip flops would be fine.

Xmassprout · 03/11/2021 23:36

Am I the only person that hates the feel of carpet on my barefoot? Have to have at least socks on, but prefer slippers. The though of bare feet on carpet sends unpleasant shivers down my spine

JanetFromAccounts · 03/11/2021 23:36

Is this some weird British thing that's a mystery to outsiders? Feet are gross and unhygienic? Fungal infections? What are you people doing with your feet?

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 03/11/2021 23:37

no

unless her feet were covered in fox shit

gamerchick · 03/11/2021 23:37

@Shitfuckcommaetc

Got her socks wet?

Lots of cleaner threads on here tonight

Yes she got her socks wet. It happens during domestic cleaning.. especially if you take off your shoes. I used to but I would bring spare socks.

Why dont you get her a pair of slip on slippers with a sole to keep at yours maybe. But even then, if they get wet they'll get taken off.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 03/11/2021 23:38

I would also add (thinking back to my chambermaid days) there is not a snowball's chance in hell I would be cleaning other people's homes in bare feet. If this was her first time cleaning for you, and she doesn't know how you live, she is taking quite a risk doing that.

user174793992 · 03/11/2021 23:41

She just didn’t want to get your floors dirty, it’s pretty common actually

greenlynx · 03/11/2021 23:41

I wouldn’t like it as well. I would worry about different infections. However I think it’s on you to provide/ finance something like slippers or whatever, going around in socks is not practical. I would ask her what she would prefer.
Bear in mind she might agree with you, take slippers and continue as before.

user174793992 · 03/11/2021 23:43

I would provide slippers next time, problem solved

AliceMcK · 03/11/2021 23:44

NRTFT

I understand the not walking round in shoes when cleaning, my friend is a cleaner and takes her shoes off. BUT I have a thing about smelly feet and feet in general, I’d rather people kept their shoes on in my house and don’t put bare feet on my sofa either yuk yuk yuk

I’d much prefer they use those shoe coverings or indoor shoes.

GaolBhoAlba · 03/11/2021 23:44

I would just have been happy that she turned up the day/time she was due!

TableFlowerss · 03/11/2021 23:46

@SleepingStandingUp

Are you concerned about her sweaty dirty feet treating sweat into your carpets? Leaving damp outlines on the tiles?
Someone that thinks like me! Grin
ArblemarchTFruitbat · 03/11/2021 23:46

I walk barefoot as often as I can - even out of doors. Your cleaner is a kindred spirit.
