I didn’t like this - would you have felt the same?

I had a cleaner start today - never had one before so was very excited!

I’d planned to be out of her way when she was here, but as it happened I got home about 30 mins early to see she was cleaning barefoot.

I felt really odd about this. Would anyone else have felt the same?

Perhaps she doesn't wear socks in case she slips and falls down the stairs in them?

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 03/11/2021 22:29

Can't believe so many people are fine with this. I would worry about plantar warts.

Or gets stuck in a tree. Socks get caught on things, the amount of times my socks have got caught on carpet tacks etc plus they can cause swollen ankles
Anordinarymum · 03/11/2021 22:32

And cleaning in the shower/bath? Bare feet seem to be the sensible option for that

Charbead49 · 03/11/2021 22:34

Our cleaners bring indoor shoes with them

SharpeSam · 03/11/2021 22:35

@SweetMaryHell I feel I’m missing something! Have you had your jeans stolen, altered and replaced whilst you were otherwise engaged stuck up a tree?!

Absolutely!! totally forgot about that

Could you BE anymore wrong?!

FortunesFave · 03/11/2021 22:48

I'd not like it either. Socks would be one thing...but barefoot? Nope!

Shirazboobaloo · 03/11/2021 22:49

What's with foot phobias? Totally normal to be barefoot in house surely? Especially normal if you are cleaning and may get wet feet too

Hankunamatata · 03/11/2021 22:50

Did she leave wearing shoes?

curtains15 · 03/11/2021 22:50

would you have rather she wore shoes that she has worn outside? yuck. I'd much prefer her to be barefoot. tbf she probably did have socks on but they got wet but as long as she isn't wearing shoes I wouldn't be bothered.

thenightsky · 03/11/2021 22:50

I'd worry about her stubbing her toes or standing on something sharp and hurting herself. And what if she dropped something on her foot - something heavy or a spill of very hot water? I think she should really wear enclosed footwear for that reason (Health and Safety at work).

NeverChange · 03/11/2021 22:50

I would hate that.

I hate feet and toes and would consider it extremely bad manners to go barefoot in someone else's house without being invited to.

I would have to ask her why she is barefoot?

😂

At the end of the day your husband will just have to ask her to show him her bra.

And if worst comes to worse, you’ll have to check her crotch. Wait until she’s cleaning up high

Yes, agreed. There are a lot of people on MN who are really weird about feet for some reason.

In your own house yes, not in your employer's house.
notacooldad · 03/11/2021 22:56

It really wouldn't not have bothered me in the slightest.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 03/11/2021 22:57

I always have socks in my bag if I am going to someone else's house while wearing shoes that aren't compatible with socks. It's polite.

nurserypolitics · 03/11/2021 23:01

No, I would not be at all ok with that. But then I'm married to a man with chronic seemingly incurable athlete's foot and have verrucas that I can't shift, so as a household our own feet are pretty gross. Socks are one thing, but totally bare feet... I don't have a phobia but I do think a LOT of people have fungal infections/verucas/general grossness about their feet which they don't acknowledge.

RacketeerRalph · 03/11/2021 23:04

Wouldn't bother me, but if it did I'd provide slippers

Concestor · 03/11/2021 23:05

I used to clean and I did it barefoot, because I don't want cleaning products getting on my shoes, I go barefoot all the time at home, and it's easier to do wet cleaning with bare feet.

You can't micromanage someone to the point of insisting they wear special cleaning slippers!

Your weirdness about bare feet is your issue.

gofg · 03/11/2021 23:08

Oh please just shut up and be thankful that you have someone doing your cleaning for you.

I mean really.

This 100 times over - honestly, what is wrong with people on MN? I wouldn't care if she did the cleaning naked, what does it matter??

Feelingoktoday · 03/11/2021 23:10

I often go barefoot in friends houses especially in the summer. I didn’t realise that was poor form.
