Spider in the airing cupboard disagreement

I am scared of spiders. Both parents are as well as siblings.

Spider in the airing cupboard the other day when I came to get bedding out. Sprayed with well known chemical spray and shut the door. Realise afterwards I should not have done this as the chemicals will be all over our bedding and towels. Decide to re-wash the towels and spare bedding (this is three loads of laundry). I get through one load. Then today my partner is going to make the spare bed up and goes to the airing cupboard and I explain what happened and I haven't finished washing it all. He is angry and swears and exclaims we live in the effing countryside and I need to stop being so ridiculous and how effing annoying this is and I should not have used the spray and should have just ignored the spider.

Another load is in the wash but the atmosphere is horrible now.

YABU get over your spider phobia or don't bother with the bedding

YANBU you can't help the phobia and need to wash the bedding

Buy a spider catcher. Tired of hearing horrendous screams from my dd, I got one off Amazon. She's fine now lol

Thanks again for the tips from those who understand the fear but have managed it better than me! It is of course totally irrational as many people have said.

Just keep spraying them and live in peace!!
And if these Spider cheerleaders on here are so passionate then maybe they can set up a charity to save the pricks, they can come and rescue them from us evil spider serial killers and set them free in their own houses where they will be able to roam around their forever homes and treated like royalty, as they surely deserve 😂

I am absolutely terrified of them but would never kill them, let alone spray anything nasty!

Give your head a shake and go get therapy if it is that bad.

I used to be scared of spiders.

Then I gave birth twice without pain relief.

I realised there were bigger things to be scared of in this world

We're not actually in the countryside but I get his point; we're not in a high rise London apartment either.

How have people with this fear learnt to overcome it?

I used to work in outdoor and environmental education. I was way too embarrassed and proud to admit to the children that I was scared of spiders, so I pretended to like them. Fake it til you make it! It worked!

I'd be interested to know if those who have posted nasty condemning responses are dealing/have dealt with any phobias themselves. Some people on this thread seem to have a really poor understanding of what a phobia is and how it can drive a person's actions.

I think you were unreasonable because this happened the other day and you didn't tell your DH the "clean" bedding was unusable until he went to change it today. Surely you could have told him sooner so he knew it needed to be washed and dried before today.
