When a child reaches 3 and gets the 3 year old funding, if you previously charged £5.50 an hour and the government provides somewhere around £3.85 for the child, do you charge the parent the difference to make it up to £5.50?

that's just the hours you are with children. Outside that there is ongoing training, keeping up to date with new legislation, ( new EYFS just published) learning diaries, communication with parents often outside working hours, and the admin required to administer the funding is totally tedious and time consuming.

That's why childminders are leaving in their droves. The responsibility is huge, the non financial rewards are great too but financially, per hour of actual work it's a pittance.
