To ask this ebay seller to send it via royal mail and not courier?

I bought a pair of boots off ebay - postage and packing was a very reasonable £3 - after they had posted it they said they had sent it courier and not royal mail.(I didn't anticipate this as surely £3 is less than a courier would cost?)

I didn't know until after they'd try to deliver it that they'd sent it courier - was going to seperately rant yesterday about this courier.

The courier left a card which I called - no actual staff just an answering machine so I left two messages asking for a redelivery and if not in they could leave at my back door or with a neighbour - they say on the card to state authorisation to leave in a porch.

Now I am in and out the house all week and this company naturally don't deliver after 6 or on Saturdays - oh and the depot for pick up is an hour from my house

So i fully anticipate it being returned to the seller after 5 days.

I've asked them to resend it via Royal Mail (who have a depot round the corner and deliver Saturdays - looorve Royal Mail ) if it gets returned to them.

Isn't it just daft to send it courier to me ? Most people are out at work and this company are an hour away and don't deliver Saturdays?

Am I unreasonable to ask them to resend it - and now I will have to pay postage twice and more importantly am i going to get hubby's chrissy present before christmas

Go to the original listing and see what it says as the delivery method.

If it says courier, it's unfortunate but you were warned and you'll need to either hope you get it this week or pay for them to resend Royal Mail.

If it says Royal Mail then go back to the seller and calmly explain the issue and therefore can they resend it to you Royal Mail when it is returned to them, in this instance you shouldn't have to pay the cost.

It says nothing, just sellers standard rate

if it says sellers standard rate then you will not be able to ask them to send again via royal mail

they probably done it via courier due to the delays in royal mail with the x mas parcels

so you will have to try and chase the courier again as seller has done nothing wrong

and if comes back via royal mail you could have a long wait as post is slow again due to time of yr and you'll have to pay for the delivery too

I tend to ask directly for people to use Royal Mail and not couriers. Sure, they are slow and the theft rates are appalling, but if I'm not in when they come round the depot is only three miles away ... I've had to go sixty miles to Carlisle to collect something important from a couriers before now.

As a seller on ebay I tend to use couriers far more than royal mail now for a number of reasons. The main one being it saves me lugging loads of parcels to the post office with two kids, its often cheaper, quicker and its trackable and insured.

It may well be that the seller has good reason for not using RM but hopefully they will be happy to go to the post office and resend for you

YANBU - they've chosen a courier who seem to be uable to complete the task you're paying them for.

DH paid £10 postage for some lego off ebay last monday, being sent DHL and it's still not here. He could have had next day delivery from royal mail for that.

mumzyof2 · 15/12/2007 21:24

Weve had a problem with DHL today!! They tried to deliver, but I wasnt in, so when I rang heir AUTOMATED and ONLY number, the next date they could deliver was 21st, but its for ds's birthday on 23rd, I dont want to risk it not coming or missing it so am trying in vain to actually speak to a human being, not cimputer, about picking it up myself, even though nits a three quarter of an hour drive.
I think its just easier with RM, a lot goes missing, but at least you either get it or you dont, not waaay too late.
