Colleague started coughing and sniffling halfway through the day but just sat there

This isn't a guy who has allergies or anything, it just came on all of a sudden.
I legged it after an hour or two of his random coughs and sniffles. AIBU here or should he have buggered off to WFH after the 3rd or 4th cough? Fun, the wait begins!

You’d have hated me today, I’ve had two days off with a bad cold but needed to get on with my job, because there are people and systems relying on me. I was barking like a seal and dripping like a tap all afternoon. Stayed away from people, tissues binned, hands washed, same as any other year honestly!

Yes apparently 60% of people with testable symptoms are not testing.

I do understand the economic reasons (which may explain differential case rates between richer/poorer areas) for some people but for many they are just twats.

Sorry, I know I shouldn't shout but the failure to 'understand' is driving me mad. Is it wilful or is it lack of education or is it lack of intelligence?

Lack of caring. Covid is fine for them. No one cares about our diabetic children, asthmatic husbands or elderly parents because they don't have those situations to worry about themselves.

I really hope my company sends me back to Sweden one of these days. People actually give a damn about each other.

Fucking hell. If I thought “the wait begins” every time I was in contact with someone who then tested positive I’d be waiting my entire fucking life, let alone if I was in the vicinity of someone with a cough…

I asked after a few cough attacks. I only asked if he had done a LFT but the answer was no, not for a few weeks. Had he done a PCR I'm pretty sure he would have said.

Anyway, I'm going in tomorrow but he can't unless he has a PCR which I doubt he can get done by morning now.

If you were so clearly in the right, why on earth didn't you tell him in no uncertain terms that you thought he should go home as he was acting outside of company policy and putting you at risk, instead of saying next to nothing, then taking it out on strangers on here after asking for their views?

Yeah, that one. They've done fairly well still. People didn't even have to be told to not go out on the piss and work from home advice didn't need to come from the government. Companies just let their employees do it, unlike far too many companies here.

Because I only had seconds to spare to my conversation with him. I was in a meeting, that I was running and needing to listen to with people from several other countries, so not something I could easily schedule for another time. I left the second I ended it.

Try working in a primary school, you will soon learn to cope with the multitude of coughs and colds that we are surrounded by all autumn/winter every autumn/winter.

Completely agree with pp’s who have said if you’re that concerned then you need to wfh and leave your poor colleagues alone.

I'm in a terrible fucking mood. If I get covid now it doesn't matter if I'm on death's door. I'll still need to work from home because the deadline is right around the corner. My new best work friend isn't on this project and doesn't have the same stress right now, so all is fine and dandy for him.

Seeing as your workplace is perfectly happy for staff to work at home with these symptoms, it seems odd that he would opt to stay. Even if it is just a cold, why sit and spread it when you don't need to? It would be different if they couldn't work from home.

Because like about 50 people on this thread, I'm sure he thinks we should all just get on with it now and it's just a cold.
