Colleague started coughing and sniffling halfway through the day but just sat there

This isn't a guy who has allergies or anything, it just came on all of a sudden.
I legged it after an hour or two of his random coughs and sniffles. AIBU here or should he have buggered off to WFH after the 3rd or 4th cough? Fun, the wait begins!

Of course you have. I mean why wouldn't you just miss that part of the story out. I mean it's a yet another drip feed. Hmm If you've contacted them then that's the end of it, what's the point in the thread.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 28/10/2021 19:09

I've been in work all week with a cold. I've been tested, its just a cold. I've been wearing a mask though to protect everyone else.

TertiusLydgate · 28/10/2021 19:09

Jesus. Is this how paranoid people have become?

ApolloandDaphne · 28/10/2021 19:10

I've just got over the mother of all coughs. Two weeks it has taken. It was not Covid. Other coughs are available.

lifeinlimbo2020 · 28/10/2021 19:11

I'm literally sat in my home office right now, finishing off the rest of my work as I left an hour early. I emailed him at 18.40. I'd show you proof if I couldn't get in shit for it.

Good. He has not been tested nor did he wear a mask though.

@ApolloandDaphne I've had coughs, sinusitis and colds for about five weeks and just getting rid of it. A day off in between thinking it had gone and then another thing arrived the next day. No Covid though at the moment. In the meantime my sister has passed away and I've been to her funeral. Life is too fucking short.

Trevorwhatever · 28/10/2021 19:14

Reading your responses here you’re coming across as quite rude and controlling. If this is what you’re like in your office then maybe your colleague has nothing wrong with him and just likes to cough and sniffle to wind you up. I’d be tempted to do the same if I was your colleague.

OnlyGin · 28/10/2021 19:14

Convenient Grin

People would be more able to believe your drip feeds OP if you weren't so passive (or just regularly) aggressive in your replies to people who disagree with you.

Anyway my money is on the guy sniffling and coughing a few times as in the original OP who thought we'd all be aghast at this horrifying fact and, when we weren't, it's not changed to some awful hacking persistent cough and "sucking up his snot" all day. Mmhmm.

@TheBlackHeart

This place gets more ridiculous by the day.
Made me laugh but absolutely true Grin
Mybalconyiscracking · 28/10/2021 19:15

You’d have hated me today, I’ve had two days off with a bad cold but needed to get on with my job, because there are people and systems relying on me.
I was barking like a seal and dripping like a tap all afternoon.
Stayed away from people, tissues binned, hands washed, same as any other year honestly!

StrawberriCream · 28/10/2021 19:16

What's to stop him saying yep I tested came back negative?

Sprinklesnight · 28/10/2021 19:16

I had a woman who came in coughing said she had done a test...

Had other symptoms...still wouldn't do a test...finally did a test and it was positive for covid. Kept saying it was a chest infection....

Yeah it's super convenient that I can be fired if I post work emails on mumsnet 😂

But people are so good at knowing when it's a cold, a chest infection, covid or flu. Now I'm confused.

Yeah, until I get covid while pregnant and the size of an air ballon.

I get a watery cough every October/November the dr once said it was a vital chest infection. It happens every year at this time so I think there is something irritating in the air every year at this time.

Essen · 28/10/2021 19:28

I get loads of allergies but no one at work knows about them and I doubt my close friends do (including the ones I have lived with).I can’t think of a more boring conversation! I’ve had to take medicine for them for the last 7 days but I doubt even my DH is aware of that.

senorafridgidaire · 28/10/2021 19:28

In our place we have been told specifically not to come to the office with a cough, cold, sniffle or anything at all that could be a bug or something you could pass on. WFH instead.

I was mighty pissed off the other day when someone sat near me (the joys of fucking hotdesking) with a horrendous hacking cough that carried on all day (with random assurances that 'its not covid I've just been coughing like this since I went out clubbing at the weekend''. No mask.

If you work somewhere where your employer is happy for you to WFH instead then that's what you should do. It may not be covid but if you can take measures to avoid passing on whatever it is to other people then surely that's what you should do?

Totally different in a workplace where policy or the nature of the job requires you to be in.

BakedTattie · 28/10/2021 19:28

I actually don’t disagree with the principles of your op. He should be doing a test.

But your attitude is bloody awful.

rrhuth · 28/10/2021 19:31

What you’ve described is a common cold, these existed before covid.

Aaaaarrrrgggggghhhhh!

This stupidity drives me bonkers.

How do you know it is a common cold when the symptoms of Covid at the outset in a vaccinated person ARE THE SAME AS A COMMON COLD???

Sorry, I know I shouldn't shout but the failure to 'understand' is driving me mad. Is it wilful or is it lack of education or is it lack of intelligence?
