Are you passionate about anything?

Feeling like I’m not passionate about anything.
Having coffee with a friend today and she was telling me gym is her everything and she’d be lost without it.
My other friend makes clothes - spends all her free time doing it and loves it.
Lots of my friends have very flashy jobs that they are passionate about.

I feel like im not passionate about anything.
I work part time - if im not are work I’m
Doing the school run and house work.
I read in bed. I feel that’s my life! I’m panicking a bit on how boring and very flat my life is.

What are your passions?
I don’t know what I want from this thread? Inspiration maybe?

Books. They're been a lifelong passion. Show me a dusty second hand bookshop and I'm in absolute Heaven and I'm just as blissed out browsing through Waterstones.

frodojodo · 28/10/2021 21:40

Don't look for something you're passionate about as such, think of something you really enjoy doing, what gives you pleasure? What do you look forward to?

For me, an introvert homebody.. I get excited if I start a new series or re watch my favourite films/series. I get excited when 7:30pm comes around, my baby is asleep & I can cuddle up in bed with a cup of tea, my dog & watch something. I'm passionate about that! It doesn't have to be a hobby.

But I do get where you're coming from, I sometimes look at other people's lives and feel down, I think mine isn't fulfilled enough. I sometimes want to be one of those Mums who are out the house all day, being different places, seeing different people and doing different things. Or a party animal, out at weekends etc.. (hard to do when you're a Mum but you get the idea) But I'm not, and I'm ok with thatSmile

I'm passionate about:

  • healthcare available to all, no matter who could afford it
  • improved access to and quality of mental health care, for everyone (esp marginalised people)
  • people finding a way to move their body that they love

I enjoy as a hobby:
Running
Climbing
Walks with friends

Im passionate about my dd not growing up to be sexually abused and assaulted by men like I was. Down with the patriarchy is a regular battle cry in our house.

TheSunIsStillShining · 28/10/2021 22:25

I'd love to give you some of my passions :) I have too many.
besides working FT...

  • knitting
  • learning to play bass guitar
  • learning japanese
  • reading (I have done this the least this past year :( )
  • waiting for spring to resume outdoor bouldering

Love cars, planes, ships - sometimes go down the rabbithole of randomly looking up a Boeing aircraft because I heard/read a tidbit about it. I would love to give this type of "passion" up.

I am passionate about my industry, but it is going so downhill that it makes me depressed just to think about it in a bigger context, so I focus on actual job.

Galaxyinmypocket · 28/10/2021 22:49

Social justice and equality. Although, dont think I'm as passionate about obtaining those for myself, I seem to care more about others who dont have those things.

@FangsForTheMemory

Language. Correct spelling and punctuation. However, I am also very aware of regional variants, new developments in English and so on. Being in my 60s, I notice Americanisms that are now in common use in the UK ('gotten', for example).
I notice far to many too, but after it originally pissed me off, I learned that ‘gotten’ was used in British English, until we abbreviated it to got. So, I no longer mind that one. Don’t get me started on ‘a big ask’ (challenging, demanding, difficult) or ‘speak to’ and issue (remember when we used to address, or comment on, an issue?).
Oh4Tunas · 29/10/2021 03:44

I'm passionate about things, but I would never use that word to describe myself. Just not my style. Instead, I'd say I'm interested in things or enjoy or even love doing certain activities. I love making things (crochet, knitting, quilt-making) and spend a great deal of time thinking about those crafts, even when I'm not actively creating something. I love playing music, just recreationally for myself. When it's going well, I love gardening and training my dogs. I love finding a particularly entertaining book, TV/movie, or podcast. I love a good story.

FastFood · 29/10/2021 05:33

Passionate about

  • design and architecture
  • contemporary art
  • Neuroscience
  • Central & Eastern Europe history
  • Wars, diseases and disasters

In terms of hobby, it translates into going to loads of exhibitions and galleries, reading books and listening to podcasts. And work.

KohlaParasaurus · 29/10/2021 14:46

I have lots of interests, and a couple of causes (universal access to health care, women's rights) that I would risk my life for, but they pale into insignificance next to the way my son (autistic) and my mother (autistic traits, would throttle me if I suggested it) throw themselves into whatever happens to be their current obsession and talk about nothing else.

Stompythedinosaur · 29/10/2021 14:50

Absolutely! I love to get lost in a new obsession! Currently I'm learning to fight with a medieval longsword, which is bloody brilliant.

I like the way I have something to think about during the boring bits of my life.

NothingSafe · 29/10/2021 17:15

I'd say I was passionate about a couple of political/social causes, in that I care enough to argue about them.

That's about it - I have other things I love (reading, knitting badly, bouldering, my job), but I wouldn't say I was 'passionate' about them.

KnobblyWand · 29/10/2021 17:27

Too many things!

I bake and decorate elaborate cakes, the more complicated and detailed the better. This week I'm making my daughter an edible detailed replica of Hagrid's hut from Harry Potter. This is my actual job so I'm not sure it counts as a passion, but it's both to me.

I also have an allotment which is hands-down one my favourite ever places to be. Putting seeds in the ground and watching them grow into food I can feed my family is the best feeling. I love the process of building raised beds and fences too.

I try my hand at all sorts of things if I can afford it. Some stuff sticks, some doesn't. Have a go at a few things, see what sticks for you.

Justyou · 29/10/2021 17:38

@Shannith

And now I think about it - sensible rescue approaches (I foster dogs and cats) not a blanket you must basically live on a farm with no job and no children before you can rescue.

But horses, like @PricklesTheHedgehog and @Vivi0 I'm obsessed. I'm even worse in that I'm on holiday with DD and it's a riding holiday. So even my holidays am revolve around horses. I just love them.

Oh another one. Teaching dogs cast iron recall. Not letting them off lead until it's 100% in any situation (lunge line until then).

I would love to have this for my dogs but don’t know how to do it in the correct way and don’t want to teach them a wrong way
