My husband is off to NY for work for 4 weeks, and I thought that the least he could do was to bring back some things for me and the children (young) but I don’t know what! Please tell me what you’d like to get!
(The children have enough clothes, I really don’t think I should tell him to get those…though I really like Carter’s)

Thank you!

@NeedAHoliday2021

But we have Tiffany’s in the UK Confused
We can get ANYTHING from the US if we want it. You're missing the point.
PrincessNutella · 27/10/2021 13:19

Aldi is disgusting; Trader Joe, delightful. Agreed. Shopping for food at Aldi is like shopping for food at the Dollar Store. Ugh!

NataliaSerene · 27/10/2021 13:26

I actually like Aldi the past few years and have friends who get all of their party food there. Well, pre-covid when there were parties.

There’s also a Whole Foods near Bryant Park behind the main library that has great stuff. And if they are open, there are two little coffee/food stands on the corner at Bryant Park. Great love to get a drink/snack and people watch.

NataliaSerene · 27/10/2021 13:31

*great place

geesearego · 27/10/2021 14:18

Aldi's vary a lot.
There is one near me in city but it is pretty awful.
I shop regularly however in one a few hours away in a small lake town that is very nice.
Trader Joe's seem more uniform.

I think the Aldi and Trader Joe people are brothers or family in some way?

mangowithasqueezeoflime · 27/10/2021 17:07

American here:

Skittles- to compare as purple is grape not black currant. Make it fun like a side by side blind taste test for the kids

Neosporin- that is the antibiotic cream, smells nice but not if anyone has a balsom (pine) allergy

Tums-berry flavoured as Renny is boring

Loved Good Housekeeping as a kid! Though sloppy now lol as an adult

We are also planning to stock up on the US equivalent to dialyte (when you have the poops) and Lemsip because my partner and I HATE how everything in UK black current!

All of the above can be had at a Walgreens or Duane Reed (our version of Boots)

As for TJ's- Trader Joes
I'm hearing good things about their Everything but the Bagel seasoning

This was a type of bagel popular in the 90s- its a bit of everything

Some inspiration

Finally, we always hit up Kohl's and the Adidas outlet if one is near

mangowithasqueezeoflime · 27/10/2021 17:11

And I loved bring Fanny Mae or Fanny Farmer to the Brits for the laughs

Look for Turtles or Pixies (name varies by brand)

A Trader Joe's store opened near me recently. The Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups are divine.

Antibiotic ointment is used to dress any cut or scrape to the skin. It sterilizes the wound and prevents bacterial infection. I linked to one popular brand above. Any chemist will have it with the first aid supplies and bandages. CVS, Walgreens and Duane Reade will also have generic versions that are perfectly good.
As the vast majority of human bacteria is resistant to dividing you might as well us saline to clean the wound. And we wonder why we have resistance apply antibiotic to every minor scrape is totally unnecessary.

Milk duds Blush

DeepaBeesKit · 27/10/2021 18:15

Oh and don't bother with clothes. Most brands price globally now, the minor differences in price vanish when you factor in the inconvenience of saving luggage space to fly extra things back.

Pottedpalm · 27/10/2021 18:16

Send him to Home Barn with a list

Pottedpalm · 27/10/2021 18:17

Sorry! Pottery Barn!

LadyJaye · 27/10/2021 18:18

@Bananablossom

I have a snow globe from Bloomingdale's with the New York skyline in it and it plays "New York New York" when wound up (with a subway train turning around the bottom).

It's as tacky as it sounds but surprisingly good quality and I love it!!

I would absolutely LOVE this.

My mother, sister and I have had an ongoing game for about 20 years now in which whoever can bring back the best tacky souvenir wins.

None of us have yet been able to better a fabulous statue which my sister bought from somewhere in Mexico, depicting Mary in a grotto surrounded by shells, which lights up and plays 'Ave Maria' when you walk past it.

I'd say this would give it a run for its money.

These are what I brought home 4 years ago! So yummy

There are alway quirky, interesting things at Pearl River Mart, things I haven't seen or had a hard time finding elsewhere (Chinese and Asian-inspiring).

waltty · 27/10/2021 22:28

@lljkk

Following another thread, huge bottles of acetominophen, aspirin & ibuprofen. Melantonin too if you'd like to give it a try.
This is exactly what I will be asking my son to bring back at Christmas
TSSDNCOP · 27/10/2021 22:39

PrincessNutella · 28/10/2021 02:10

Fishs Eddy has interesting tableware, tea towels, etc. A small sampling can be found online, but the Chelsea store is great for browsing for all kinds of bowls, plates, etc. Also good for something that shows it's from New York without looking too touristy. Fishseddy.com

Yes!!! Was going to mention it, but wondered if it was too… something that the OP would need to browser rather than sending DH.
PrincessNutella · 28/10/2021 06:03

I have no idea if this interests you and no idea how your husband could shop for you, but one thing New York has that is really fun is that in the Garment District, there are a number of tiny stores that have all kinds of unusual trims, ribbons, buttons, sequins, etc. As well as truly exotic fabrics and so forth. www.lost-not-found.com/insiders-guide-garment-district-fabric-stores-nyc/

PrincessNutella · 28/10/2021 06:11

economycandy.com/
This candy store, on the Lower East Side, is old fashioned and amazing and has an unbelievable selection.

Also--if you're going to get jelly beans, I suggest Jelly Bellies, because each separate flavor actually tastes like the color it is, and there are something like forty or fifty or even more different flavors.

Lincslady53 · 28/10/2021 06:18

My sister always brings back tube of Advil pain killers. She swears by them but be careful you don't overdue their use.

hagsrus0 · 29/10/2021 20:17

Interesting about Advil. A friend in the UK always asks for them, swears they work better than generic ibuprofen (which I use). Perhaps there's something in the Advil formulation that suits some users better?
