How much was your Invisalign

Hi everyone,

I want to start by saying I am only in my early 20s, I live in London, I am trying to save up for a deposit on my first home and really really hate my smile to the point where I do not smile in pics or like meeting new people in case they stare. I have a gap in my teeth and apart from that they’re pretty much straight

Anyway so this morning I went to the orthodontist for an Invisalign consultation. I was looking online for ages that the treatment will be around the 3000-4000 mark which I was sort of ok with. Turns out I have really bad enamel loss at the back of my teeth on quite a lot of my teeth. I have been struggling really bad with GERD (acid reflux disease) causing me to vomit quite a lot of the time. I was also pregnant couple years ago with really bad morning sickness I was vomiting everyday, sometimes a few times In the day for maybe about 2/3 months. So when I was told I have slight tooth decay I kind of expected it. Now… she says that the Invisalign itself is about £3800 but the fillings for all the teeth is bringing the cost TO £6000!!!!! Shock

I left the dentist feeling so low to be honest, beginning to second guess if it’s really worth it. I feel like I’m being mugged off though which is why I’m putting this up. I don’t know if an extra £3000 on fillings is actually reasonable or not. Like I said I do live in London (not even central which is the crazy thing) and I think that this dentist is supposed to be quite popular. Should I look elsewhere? I did pay £100 for an x-ray next week so she can give me more of an accurate price and maybe give me a more solid idea.

I need help if I should go ahead with the plan!!

I got a quote from my regular dentist which was £5400! It included lots of checkups etc.

In the end I went with smile direct club and paid £1287. I'm on aligner 4 of 16 so I can't comment on end result but i'm pleased so far, even if a bit sore for the first few days of switching to a new aligner.

I guess either way you would need to get the fillings done prior to any treatment for fixing your teeth. Good luck, hope you find somewhere.

catlovingdoctor · 25/10/2021 11:28

I would caution you against using anything like Smile Direct Club- there is no professional input from a dentist who actually understands occlusion. Particularly important for you because you have erosion/wear in several teeth and this could complicate treatment or expected outcomes. Invisalign or similar systems with a dentist are costly, but it is far better to wait until you can afford it than do anything like Smile Direct.

Pippa12 · 25/10/2021 11:32

I think my SIL paid £1.5k but it was supposed to be 6 months and almost 12 months later she’s still not finished. No check ups in person, in fact she’s never physically seen a dentist. I don’t think I’d take the risk, especially as it sounds like you may have existing dental issues.

Pippa12 · 25/10/2021 11:33

I think she’s used invisaline

Boudiccasback · 25/10/2021 11:35

Around £3k, would monthly options work?

YerAWizardHarry · 25/10/2021 11:36

@Pippa12 it won’t be the Invisalign brand. They’re very well respected and practitioners have to be properly trained. It’ll likely be smile direct or straight my teeth or something like that especially at only 1.5K. I’ve never seen an invisalign quote for less than £3K

Cuntness · 25/10/2021 11:39

£2750. Started in May. 14 initial trays. I'm currently waiting for my second set of refinements.

My regular dentist is also an invisilign specialist, regular face to face check ups provided and everything included in the price. £4000 I'm still debating if I can afford to do it.

AutumnLoves · 25/10/2021 11:40

I was going to do monthly payments but I’d be paying I think around £250-£300 a month and I really do not have that sort of money to spend on my teeth every month. I understand that I have dental issues however I am just worried that this is something I could get cheaper or on NHS. After all, my dentist who referrered me to that orthodontist mentioned about the tooth decay but didn’t seem extremely bothered like this dentist Sad

I had Invisalign lite which was 14 trays then a round or two of refinements for £3k. The fillings seem expensive. You can see other dentists and get more quotes but don't do anything on the cheap. Your teeth are so important. I'd really caution against Smile Direct Club or any alignment company that doesn't use dentists face to face. Way too many things can go wrong.

PressingTeams · 25/10/2021 11:53

Online aligners, such as Smile Direct Club, only work on the front 8 teeth, which isn’t good enough for lots of people.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 25/10/2021 11:57

I would get another opinion about the fillings, but you may find its easier to have all the treatment done with one dentist.
I had braces recently (not Invisalign) and it cost over £5k with a lot of work done on my bite etc.

sashh · 25/10/2021 11:57

I think mine were £1800 but this was quite a few years ago, this was with visits to an orthodontist every 6 weeks and a couple of retainers at the end.

It was made clear to me that I could not have any fillings during the straightening so to be extra vigilant with the toothbrush.

They also do a 'cosmetic only' option that only straightens the teeth in your smile.

I've just looked on the website and Invisalign is £1419 to £3609. The price is for the number of teeth and both arches.

They do 0% finance but because I paid upfront I got a 20% discount.

I'm in Wolverhampton so miles away but it might be worth the train ride. It's about 2 hours and about £25 if booked ahead. Occasionally as low as £10.

I have just completed my course through SmilesAlliance in Australia. For a 9 months course I paid $2150. So double that for British pound prices. Am very happy! At the end of my course I wasn’t completely satisfied so they created another 10 weeks worth of aligners so that my teeth would be perfect, free of charge.
Also you have to send them photos every two weeks to check on the progress.
Can you get Smiles Alliance in the uk?

AutumnLoves · 25/10/2021 12:20

The thing is I am fine with paying the £3800 to straighten the teeth. The main issue now Is wondering if £3000 on fillings is normal and worth it. Like I said I’m just worried I’d end up paying so much money for it when I could’ve got the fillings cheaper or on NHS. I might have a word with my dentist and see what they say

OP posts:
TrickOrTreat21x · 25/10/2021 12:23

You can get the fillings cheaper than that. Beware though if the enamel is coming away on the backs of your teeth, it may end up coming away on the fronts as well as they would of been left weak and render the whole thing pointless.
I would see your normal dentist and get a professional opinion before you start paying out thousands.

OatcakeCravings · 25/10/2021 15:11

3k for fillings? Nah! I would shop around. I have an NHS dentist and I’m getting a filling replaced for £15.46 next week and that includes the temp filling I got while waiting for the appointment for the proper one.

Glittertwins · 25/10/2021 15:15

Mine was £3400 and that included all appointments, moulds, x-rays, aligners, composite filling out of my 4 upper front teeth so that they were evened and the retainers. The filing out of the teeth to create the gaps was not pleasant but after 5.5 months, they are all done and I now have the retainers for 6 months all days/night then can move to nights only. It's a huge difference to my teeth.

Notadramallama · 25/10/2021 15:28

£3k for mine - best money I've ever spent.

ellie21 · 25/10/2021 15:54

I had invisalign for 14 weeks, then whitening and veneers/composite bonding. It cost A LOT of money ( approx 4000 for the Invisalign but that also included the retainers for 9 months after and all checks).
I saved up and paid as I went along and I can genuinely say it is the best money I have ever spent.
I never ever used to smile in photos and now I do :)

SnarkyBag · 25/10/2021 16:00

I was hoping to have Invisalign but the orthodontist said for my issues I would get the results that a fixed brace will give. I also needed a crown doing first and will need some composite bonding and get teeth whitening at the end. All in it will be about £6500. This is everything including X-rays, scans etc.

I had my top set fitted on Saturday and the bottom set will be fitted in about 4 weeks so right at the start of the journey. If I’d had the money I would have done it years ago.

SnarkyBag · 25/10/2021 16:00

**wouldnt get the results that should say

SnarkyBag · 25/10/2021 16:04

Should also say like previous poster that I’ve not had to pay all up front. I just get charged at each stage of the treatment for whatever they’ve done at that point. I’ve paid out about £1500 so far over the last 4 months worth of appointments.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 25/10/2021 16:05

@SnarkyBag same for me. I got about 3 opinions and the consensus was that Invisalign wouldn’t work for me so I had a fixed brace with some composite bonding at the end.

SnarkyBag · 25/10/2021 16:09

I’ve found the whole process fascinating and what essentially for me is about cosmetics it’s been interesting to learn and understand the process that will essentially impact your mouth very physically. Helps me appreciate the price as to be honest anyone messing around with your mouth and teeth on the cheap could actually do considerable damage!
