How much was your Invisalign

Hi everyone,

I want to start by saying I am only in my early 20s, I live in London, I am trying to save up for a deposit on my first home and really really hate my smile to the point where I do not smile in pics or like meeting new people in case they stare. I have a gap in my teeth and apart from that they’re pretty much straight

Anyway so this morning I went to the orthodontist for an Invisalign consultation. I was looking online for ages that the treatment will be around the 3000-4000 mark which I was sort of ok with. Turns out I have really bad enamel loss at the back of my teeth on quite a lot of my teeth. I have been struggling really bad with GERD (acid reflux disease) causing me to vomit quite a lot of the time. I was also pregnant couple years ago with really bad morning sickness I was vomiting everyday, sometimes a few times In the day for maybe about 2/3 months. So when I was told I have slight tooth decay I kind of expected it. Now… she says that the Invisalign itself is about £3800 but the fillings for all the teeth is bringing the cost TO £6000!!!!! Shock

I left the dentist feeling so low to be honest, beginning to second guess if it’s really worth it. I feel like I’m being mugged off though which is why I’m putting this up. I don’t know if an extra £3000 on fillings is actually reasonable or not. Like I said I do live in London (not even central which is the crazy thing) and I think that this dentist is supposed to be quite popular. Should I look elsewhere? I did pay £100 for an x-ray next week so she can give me more of an accurate price and maybe give me a more solid idea.

I need help if I should go ahead with the plan!!

@SnarkyBag you are so right. My orthodontist was a quality outfit - very expensive but worth it.
As an aside I’m not entirely happy with my teeth because the composite bonding (done elsewhere) doesn’t look right. I’m going to get it re done when I have some funds…
But the teeth themselves (before the bonding) look great.

TheBlackArt · 25/10/2021 18:15

About 3.5k. I used some inheritance I had received, and it was one of the best decisions of my life. I never used to smile in photos - ever - but now I'm always grinning when a camera is whipped out! Just massively improved my confidence.

hopelessatthinkingupusernames · 25/10/2021 18:21

£4.5k for mine, but I had a quote of £6k from a different one, so definitely worth shopping around! My orthodontist seems great, I had a check up after about 6 weeks and they found my teeth weren’t moving as expected so I was rescanned for new aligners - really glad I didn’t go for Smile Direct or similar as that wouldn’t have been picked up on

LilyTheMink · 25/10/2021 18:35

@catlovingdoctor

I would caution you against using anything like Smile Direct Club- there is no professional input from a dentist who actually understands occlusion. Particularly important for you because you have erosion/wear in several teeth and this could complicate treatment or expected outcomes. Invisalign or similar systems with a dentist are costly, but it is far better to wait until you can afford it than do anything like Smile Direct.
I used proper Invisalign and my bite is fucked now at the back. I can only chew museli on one side, I’ve been back to them but they fob me off and say it will settle.Wish I’d never done it,
Sweetsaremyfave · 25/10/2021 18:37

You will find a much cheaper price for fillings, an NHS filling should be around £65. Most will offer a white filling for a slightly higher price. Maybe see an NHS dentist for the fillings and other work needed for the enamel and a private dentist for the Invisalign. We only get 1 set of teeth so they need looking after!!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 25/10/2021 18:38

Get your teeth sorted out with a standard dentist - NHS or private - then look at the orthodontic stuff.

user1471457751 · 25/10/2021 18:40

Get a second opinion for the fillings. I had to get 2 fillings before I started invisalign this year - cost £300 at the private dentist. It sounds like they want to do a lot to your teeth so definitely worth checking elsewhere

proudbrows · 25/10/2021 20:22

I've used tooth fairy and it cost £1700 with finance options available. This included 2 consultations face to face with the dentist and video check ins. I highly recommend, the results are amazing!

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 25/10/2021 20:24

My new and now ex dentist pulled this one, £10,000 worth of work needed before I could have my teeth straightened. I saw them coming and have gone back to my old dentist in another county.
Funny how all of these new fillings I need cost 4 times as much as my old dentist.
Get quotes elsewhere.

ivfbabymomma1 · 25/10/2021 20:25

I think mine was about 3k for top & bottom (12 teeth in total) it was absolutely worth every penny. And that was about 9 year ago!

icelolly12 · 25/10/2021 23:08

Definitely go with invisalign over smile direct as they use attachments on the teeth, IPR if needed and elastics if needed, whereas Smile direct it is just the aligners and nobody to directly contact if something goes wrong.

It usually costs between 3k and 4k, get the fillings done by your normal dentist then go back for an invisalign quote.

wendz86 · 25/10/2021 23:26

Mine is £3800 which includes whitening and standard retainers at the end but I will have to pay extra for bonding to my teeth and the Invisalign retainers . I’m nearly at the end of straightening my teeth and so worth it .

Costakiko · 26/10/2021 07:15

A few things to note about Invisalign.

General dentists and orthodontists can be Invisalign providers. Don’t just assume that if they are providing Invisalign that they are experts. They are not.

There are different tiers of Invisalign providers. Look for Invisalign Diamond providers or Elite platinum at a minimum.

Ask to see their portfolio of Invisalign patient before and after pictures.

Invisalign customer service is second to none. The Dr you choose is vitally important to your experience of Invisalign.

IPR - is generally needed for most cases but note that Dr’s can file/polish too much from your enamel/tooth. That’s why it’s really imperative that your Dr is an expert.

TheBlackArt · 26/10/2021 07:21

Don't go for Smile Direct Club, no matter how tempting the price seems

Insert1x20p · 26/10/2021 07:27

Re the fillings, do they need crowns? They can be ridiculously expensive.

SnarkyBag · 26/10/2021 08:02

@Insert1x20p

Yes if you need crowns that might explain the price I paid £600 for one crown
ElizabethBennetismybestfriend · 26/10/2021 08:31

Took 18 months. Cost £4500 about 6years ago. Totally worth it.

Jazzles2021 · 26/10/2021 08:57

Smile Direct is an absolute farce. AVOID! If you're going to do it, it will be expensive, but spend the money to have it all done well!

RiverSkater · 26/10/2021 10:00

See a proper Orthodentist, my initial consultation to see if I was suitable was free.

I have fixed braces, I actual quite like them on and they cost about 3k but costs vary so much for Invisalign. I've even seen them on Groupon!!

I had a lifetime of not smiling, 😊 can't wait to laugh and smile not feeling self conscious.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 26/10/2021 10:11

I would avoid somewhere offering groupon as well!

Putdownthecake · 26/10/2021 11:00

Do you have family who live elsewhere? I have many friends who live in London but travel to Norfolk (where family is) for their treatment. Much cheaper.

Summer93 · 22/04/2022 15:33

Hi AutumnLoves

An extra £3000 for fillings on top of the Invisalign?! To be honest that does sound expensive. I will be starting my Invisalign treatment soon and it will cost £2495 for upper and lower teeth and whitening at a private dental practice in Harrogate.
Could definitely be worth searching for another dentist for the fillings and / or Invisalign. I think different dentists charge differently for Invisalign and for fillings as well.
Hope this helps x

ThreeLittleDots · 22/04/2022 16:16

Go back to your NHS dentist and ask about the fillings. You don't have to have all the work done by the same practice.

I8toys · 22/04/2022 18:49

£4k worth every penny

Harrogategal · 08/04/2023 22:18

Hi Summer93. I live in Harrogate and just wondered which dentist you used please? Always better to go on recommendations. Thank you 😊
