I ruined the ghost hunt

I was away last week staying in a castle. Supposedly a very haunted castle but I don’t believe in shit like that, I just like history.

Anyway during the night there was a paranormal investigation going on. I had to walk through the castle on my own to retrieve something from the car and as I walked through one room these guys were surrounding a door recording it and had all their equipment set up around it etc. I needed to get through it. I held back a bit (this was 10pm at night and I was tired, wanting to go to bed). Anyway the door moved slightly and they all got excited. I seriously just needed to get to my car so pointed out that this particular door always moves due to the draught coming up the stairs. Well they all looked daggers at me and asked what I was doing there!! I said I needed to get through the door! So they huffed ans puffed and moved all their shit and the leader said they would have to start again due to interference. I went through, got the stuff out of my car and made my way back through the castle. Unfortunately they had set all their stuff up again. I went through the door and set all the alarms off and they got angry and one said “let’s move to a different area, this is ridiculous”. I didn’t say anything, just headed back to my apartment.

Later that night I opened the bedroom window and instantly was hit with torches in my face. They had got excited due to “movement” from a “haunted room”. I got annoyed, went down to where they were and asked how much longer this would be going on. They said all night. So I told them where I was staying, pointed to the windows and said any movement from these rooms is just me walking around. They were not friendly. As I was speaking one started shrieking about a chandelier swinging in another room and they all went running. I went with them and pointed out the big fuck off fireplace that would inevitably cause a draught going through the room causing anything “hanging” to move. I was then told to “go away!” And was told I was ruining a night that had been planned for months. I told them they were ruining my night that had been planned for months too.
Who was being unreasonable?

The only need I have that's not being met is food and pregnancy related, thank you very much 😂

Oh, I wasn’t saying you were conscious of it.

Briarshollow · 23/10/2021 17:44

@JesusIsAnyNameFree so what you believe is true and anyone else’s beliefs, if they differ to yours, are bullshit and harmful and must be stamped out?

You sound unnecessarily aggressive and hard work here:

I do indeed, if the opportunity presents itself. I don't chase the vicar down the street to have a go though. I'm not a nutter.

Just out of interest, where do you stand on the existence ofextra terrestrial life, seeing as you get the final word, oh wise belief overlord?

nancybotwinbloom · 23/10/2021 17:48

@LadyGAgain

OP you've missed a trick. You should have shrouded yourself in a white sheet and jumped out of wardrobes and behind doors whispering "woooooooooo" 👻👻
I would have so done this lol
Middersweekly · 23/10/2021 17:53

If I was the OP I would have had great fun winding them up. I would have gone full scare mode, smothered my face in sudocrem and been lobbing random objects across the room! Grin

@Briarshollow

Whether there's life or not outside our planet is very clearly one that is still up for debate. I'm not sure why you're bringing that up as a subject comparable to that of a man sitting in the sky.
There's between 800 billion and 3.2 trillion planets in our galaxy and between 100 and 200 billion galaxies in the visible universe. Do I belive they're little green men in silver outfits? Nope. But do I think there's life somewhere? Probably.

TheBlackArt · 23/10/2021 17:56

I would have so done this lol

Would you fuck 😂

Cocomarine · 23/10/2021 18:01

@Sciurus83

If it was Chillingham you were a dick. The whole schtick of the place is it's ghost stories, you knew that when you booked there so to then be annoyed that's why other people were there and purposefully ruining their fun was mean.
@Sciurus83 it was indeed Chillingham, OP mentioned her stay there in another thread.

Please don’t call me ‘hun’ @JesusIsAnyNameFree, especially not as an attempt to be condescending. It makes you sound stupid.

I’d have thought it obvious why I plucked it as a subject comparable to a ‘man sitting in the sky’, as people’s belief systems tend to fall into distinct camps.

I have no faith at all, and probably have a similar belief system to you, but I’m not arrogant enough to tackle someone of faith and demand they ‘prove’ what they choose to believe, nor ignorant enough to think they believe there’s a man sitting in the sky.

Getyourownback · 23/10/2021 18:09

They literally advertise ghost tours on the castle’s home page so I think the OP is either ignorant in not noticing that or spiteful in following them around to ruin it.

Live and let live. They were harming no one and enjoying themselves. I think all the obstruction guff has probably been overegged as she was waxing lyrical about the place on the other thread.

I imagine some posters on here 👀 to be the sort who open the door on Hallowe’en (jk, no one on Mumsnet answers the door, not least on October 31st) and chucks water on the children, shouting “witches and ghosts and vampires don’t exist you idiots!” and then say they did it as an act of kindness.

But I didn't call you hun though, did I?

I don't think it's obvious at all. Some things are 100% still up for debate, such as life outside our planet and whether or not string theory will provide us with deep insights into the nature of the universe or if it's just a mathematical curiosity.

I have never tackled or demanded someone defend their beliefs either. "If the opportunity presents itself" means just that, if there's a discussion about it, not just because I happen to meet a Rabbi. Again, I am not a nutter.

Briarshollow · 23/10/2021 18:25

Again, I am not a nutter.

I think you might be @JesusIsAnyNameFree. You literally just called me ‘hun’. Confused

Briarshollow · 23/10/2021 18:27

Unless you were addressing the other poster? It wasn’t clear.

BaggyBloomers · 23/10/2021 18:32

Yes & no... YANBU for wanting to go and get something from your car. You had as much right to be there as they did. They were BU if they were arsey with you for 'inconveniencing' them when you needed to get by. They should have kept the doorways clear at least.
I'm torn when it comes to torches in the window. They obviously had permission to be in the grounds & unless they were told which areas had guests staying, then how were they to know that you were there. However, if they continued shining the torches in your direction after you had spoken to them then I would say they were BU. They were probably a bit short with you at that point because of your earlier comments on their investigation.

YABU by chirping in on their investigation & (as someone else has said) 'pissing on their chips'.

BSideBaby · 23/10/2021 18:51

Your need to feel superior shouldn't have been used to spoil other people's fun.

Hippyshubbie · 23/10/2021 19:38

I really don't get all the hate for the OP. They were dicks acting stupidly, what on Earth is wrong with pointing that out? It isn't safe fun it is a stupid mindset that leads to crap antiscience thinking. If someone is saying something that is obviously wrong and provably wrong you point it out...

Ilovesandwiches · 23/10/2021 19:38

Don’t understand why you took it upon yourself to follow the group around to ruin it for them.. so unreasonable for that
But not unreasonable to not want a torch shone at your window or needing to go to your car (also should have been obvious to the group you’d need to come back)

Pythonista · 23/10/2021 19:43

How is it provably wrong? I don't believe in ghosts but some people find it comforting that there could be something after death.

A friend of mine lost their child and it gives her comfort to think she will be with him again. Yes, anti science, but actually you have no right to tell people what to believe in

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 23/10/2021 20:32

@Cocomarine Chinny reckon Grin. Haven't heard that in yonks!

mediumbrownmug · 23/10/2021 20:52

I personally would have spoken to the staff about being disturbed, and not followed this group around pointing things out. But I’d also have to say that it’s par for the course that if you go around disturbing and blocking entry for paying guests at their own venue, you’re certainly leaving the door open for this exact thing to happen.

But OP was equally dickish
NeonTetras · 23/10/2021 22:14

@Pythonista Did you read the OP's posts were there was an explanation for things and it was provably so?

Anyway the door moved slightly and they all got excited. I seriously just needed to get to my car so pointed out that this particular door always moves due to the draught coming up the stairs.

and

Later that night I opened the bedroom window and instantly was hit with torches in my face. They had got excited due to “movement” from a “haunted room”. This isn't about belief, as I said before. This is about things that have an easily proven EXPLANATION.

It was quite clear. Quote them and then @ your name after. Well, I found it pretty clear anyway.
Oh4Tunas · 23/10/2021 23:32

Gosh, what a bore to go around ruining someone else's harmless fun and then come on here to brag about it!

(Fortunately, most of that probably didn't even happen.)
