I ruined the ghost hunt

CallMeAChopper · 23/10/2021 09:56

I was away last week staying in a castle. Supposedly a very haunted castle but I don’t believe in shit like that, I just like history.

Anyway during the night there was a paranormal investigation going on. I had to walk through the castle on my own to retrieve something from the car and as I walked through one room these guys were surrounding a door recording it and had all their equipment set up around it etc. I needed to get through it. I held back a bit (this was 10pm at night and I was tired, wanting to go to bed). Anyway the door moved slightly and they all got excited. I seriously just needed to get to my car so pointed out that this particular door always moves due to the draught coming up the stairs. Well they all looked daggers at me and asked what I was doing there!! I said I needed to get through the door! So they huffed ans puffed and moved all their shit and the leader said they would have to start again due to interference. I went through, got the stuff out of my car and made my way back through the castle. Unfortunately they had set all their stuff up again. I went through the door and set all the alarms off and they got angry and one said “let’s move to a different area, this is ridiculous”. I didn’t say anything, just headed back to my apartment.

Later that night I opened the bedroom window and instantly was hit with torches in my face. They had got excited due to “movement” from a “haunted room”. I got annoyed, went down to where they were and asked how much longer this would be going on. They said all night. So I told them where I was staying, pointed to the windows and said any movement from these rooms is just me walking around. They were not friendly. As I was speaking one started shrieking about a chandelier swinging in another room and they all went running. I went with them and pointed out the big fuck off fireplace that would inevitably cause a draught going through the room causing anything “hanging” to move. I was then told to “go away!” And was told I was ruining a night that had been planned for months. I told them they were ruining my night that had been planned for months too.
Who was being unreasonable?

HAHAHAHAHAH YANBU.

You were a paying guest. They were being stupid

icedcoffees · 23/10/2021 15:18
**@icedcoffees* You don't think these people were scammed and they don't have the right to know?? Honestly? Hmm Maybe it's just me, but if I saw people being scammed and/or getting the wrong impression when they've paid good money, I could not not* say something. I would consider it a moral civic duty, and I would have (until this thread) expected that any other person would feel the same. Shrugs (disappointed look). Sorry but I would still tell, and this thread has shocked me.
Nope, not at all.

Either they don't believe in the paranormal, in which case they paid to go along for a bit of a laugh/something to do for Halloween, or they do, in which case I'm sure they didn't appreciate some random woman busting in and trying to ruin their fun.

So no, I don't consider it my "moral civic duty" (whatever the actual fuck that is) to ruin people's fun. If you think it's a scam, don't go, don't take it upon yourself to get in the way and ruin it for others.

That's shitty, selfish behaviour imo. Leave people be.

HAHAHAHAHAH YANBU.

You were a paying guest. They were being stupid

And they were paying guests too.
MenaiMna · 23/10/2021 15:29

Are we sure we're not talking to a spirit with a mumnet account who doesn't realise they died on their castle hotel getaway... Kidding! OP you're brilliant and you should be asking for a partial refund!

Cocomarine · 23/10/2021 15:30

@motherofcatsandbears

You could have really scared them - woo noises, bed sheet over you, knocking etc! 👻👻👻 You should ask for a refund as this should not have happened when they had paying guests.
But they were paying guests too. OP might as well say she wants a refund because when went to her car, someone else was going to theirs, and she had to wait momentarily to pass them on the stairs. They’re the ones who had the batshit other guess making smartarse comments at them and actually leaving her room to come and follow them round the place!!!
JesusIsAnyNameFree · 23/10/2021 15:34

@Totallydefeated

The only need I have that's not being met is food and pregnancy related, thank you very much 😂

I haven't tried to bludgeon anyone. Who have I bludgeoned?

Of course I'm cock-sure that God and ghosts don't exist. There's not a shred of evidence to suggest that they do. I'm also certain the earth isn't flat because there's plenty of proof of it being a sphere.

The problem with these beliefs is that people that believe the harmless aspects of them also tend to believe the harmful ones. It's harmless enough for you to believe in God as long as it means it doesn't badly affect anyone, but very rarely does it not.

While it's very small in the grand scheme of things, it was very upsetting to hear a mum tell her excited three year old at pickup she wouldn't be attending the planned halloween party with the other kids because they're Christians. It's insanity. Why on earth is a child missing out on fun because of a fairytale written by some men?

TractorAndHeadphones · 23/10/2021 15:42

@TheBlackArt my point was that the OP was a paying guest and shouldn't be inconvenienced. If they were setting a ghost hunt in a different part of the castle for example she wouldn't have bothered would she?
It doesn't matter whether they are paying guests or not. If they paid for setting up in an area that would inconvenience other guests and expected them to put up with it yes, they're stupid. That's why even films (and even film school students) have the role of a 'location manager' whose job is to make sure a location is suitable.

TractorAndHeadphones · 23/10/2021 15:44

@Cocomarine did you miss the part where they got mad at OP for setting off all the alarms although she was just going to her car? Or where they shone their torches in her face?
I can see why she was annoyed.
It's not like they were minding their own business and she came along and interrupted with no provocation whatsoever.

No @TractorAndHeadphones I didn’t miss that bit. But what I also didn’t miss is that the start of all this - before the alarm, and before the torches - she and did come along and whilst they were “minding their own business” she did interrupt with no provocation.

If you had come upon people blocking a door way with their ghost hunting equipment in a well known castle that’s marketed as haunted (so it’s not the most random thing to have been happening!) would you personally have:

A: said, “oh excuse me - I need to get out to my car, can I just get through please?

or

B: hung around watching for a bit and then weighed in uninvited with your chip-pissing comments about the fraught?

Cherrysoup · 23/10/2021 16:10

You proper pissed on their chips. I think that was unnecessary. They shouldn’t have blocked exits/entrances, but they didn’t deserve someone wrecking it for them.

Pythonista · 23/10/2021 16:18

So what is the exact age that people have to stop believing in anything you personally believe is untrue?

Dojacatpaws · 23/10/2021 16:56

Do you tell kids father Christmas isn't real too op, I'd have just left them to have their fun

MissMaple82 · 23/10/2021 16:58

What the frig was so important in the car that you needed to causes such chaos for! How utterly annoying

Soupseason · 23/10/2021 16:58

Cool story bro

MissMaple82 · 23/10/2021 17:01

You were totally the unreasonable one here! One for needing so urgently to get "something" from your car, if it were that important you'd of unpacked it. And secondly for being such a P#%k and commenting on their evening!!

Dojacatpaws · 23/10/2021 17:07

Yeah you sound a bit superior

NeonTetras · 23/10/2021 17:10

@MissMaple82

Wait....wtf?? Is this a form of victim-blaming? If the OP had left something in the car, it is her right to go out there and get it. It is NOT the right of other guests to cause chaos by blocking pathways (fire hazard chaos anyone?) with cameras that should be there. The scammers and jokers with their cameras and shit were the ones blocking fire exits, paths to cars, vehicles etc. The OP used an exit for what it was DESIGNED for, she did nothing wrong, the idiots causing chaos blocking exits were.

Seriously, I cannot believe anyone is blaming the OP for needing to go to her vehicle. Wt absolute fuck?!??

NeonTetras · 23/10/2021 17:11

*with cameras that shouldN'T be there

MintyGreenDream · 23/10/2021 17:12

🤣🤣

LadyCatStark · 23/10/2021 17:12

You weren’t unreasonable to want to get through the door or to not want them shining a torch into your window but you were unreasonable to make the comments. Why ruin their fun? You were also being unreasonable to not take the opportunity to hide and make moaning and rattling noises…

ChargingBuck · 23/10/2021 17:13

Eh?

Since when was staying in a hotel, & walking in & out of your own room for any reason at all, let alone one as bland as just going to your own car constitute some kind of social faux pas?

What the frig was so important in the car that you needed to causes such chaos for

I'd hazard that people setting up enough cameras & woo kit to block OP's exit, & then waving torches at her bedroom window were more likely candidates for the "causing chaos" accusation.

LadyCatStark · 23/10/2021 17:13

Oh and I’d have totally put a sheet over my head and slowly “glided” past my window or stood and stared at them 😂.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 23/10/2021 17:17

@MissMaple82

What the hell? The OP is fully entitled to go to her car at any point. If she was going for that fun sized twix she was craving. The fuck is your problem 😂

Well if you simply must have a number, let's say 18. Give people a chance to grow up.
Sciurus83 · 23/10/2021 17:26

If it was Chillingham you were a dick. The whole schtick of the place is it's ghost stories, you knew that when you booked there so to then be annoyed that's why other people were there and purposefully ruining their fun was mean.
