I ruined the ghost hunt

I was away last week staying in a castle. Supposedly a very haunted castle but I don’t believe in shit like that, I just like history.

Anyway during the night there was a paranormal investigation going on. I had to walk through the castle on my own to retrieve something from the car and as I walked through one room these guys were surrounding a door recording it and had all their equipment set up around it etc. I needed to get through it. I held back a bit (this was 10pm at night and I was tired, wanting to go to bed). Anyway the door moved slightly and they all got excited. I seriously just needed to get to my car so pointed out that this particular door always moves due to the draught coming up the stairs. Well they all looked daggers at me and asked what I was doing there!! I said I needed to get through the door! So they huffed ans puffed and moved all their shit and the leader said they would have to start again due to interference. I went through, got the stuff out of my car and made my way back through the castle. Unfortunately they had set all their stuff up again. I went through the door and set all the alarms off and they got angry and one said “let’s move to a different area, this is ridiculous”. I didn’t say anything, just headed back to my apartment.

Later that night I opened the bedroom window and instantly was hit with torches in my face. They had got excited due to “movement” from a “haunted room”. I got annoyed, went down to where they were and asked how much longer this would be going on. They said all night. So I told them where I was staying, pointed to the windows and said any movement from these rooms is just me walking around. They were not friendly. As I was speaking one started shrieking about a chandelier swinging in another room and they all went running. I went with them and pointed out the big fuck off fireplace that would inevitably cause a draught going through the room causing anything “hanging” to move. I was then told to “go away!” And was told I was ruining a night that had been planned for months. I told them they were ruining my night that had been planned for months too.
Who was being unreasonable?

@Getyourownback, I would pay good money to read your own thread, all about your struggles & how you finally came to see the light & find a better hobby than smoking crack and kicking pigeons

Go on - it'll run & run! [tea] Cake

Yes I’m able to think critically, but who is it hurting for them to believe in something? Why be the dick who “should challenge” them as you say?
Because it’s dangerous to give as much value to fantasy as you give to fact. It leads to tv shows “balancing” their content by having woo alongside actual factual information. It leads to complete gapers advising you to “keep an open mind” when confronted with complete BS.

It leads to adults who still have a gullible childlike view of the world believing vaccines are dangerous and somehow Bill Gates and 5G are conspiring with it to control….something.

What nobody seems to be saying here really is that these adults were playing a game, they were engaged in a fantasy, they all know it’s not real but they’re playing the game and the OP may have broken the spell for a moment and spoiled the game.

No.

People seem more ready to suggest it might really be ghooooOOSSssts and we should keep an open mind.

I always tell people the truth if it's being discussed though. I'm not entertaining insanity

Or, as other people see them, beliefs. It's not my thing but each to their own.

SheldontheWonderSchlong · 23/10/2021 13:32

Cool story, bro.

Sounds like another group of people being misled over something that isn’t true to me

CaMePlaitPas · 23/10/2021 13:34

This is just wonderful.

Pythonista · 23/10/2021 13:34

Does it affect you if people believe in God or ghosts or anything else? No? So mind your own business

does it upset you if people challenge adults who treat male-believe as though it’s real ?
brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 23/10/2021 13:39

*make believe

I didn’t mean to misgender “believe”

Yes, this is exactly my point. Doesn’t do anyone any harm to believe in things like this, especially if it gives them spiritual comfort in times of need

You can read all about it in my memoir, “Crack, Pigeons and the Afterlife: how one woman sought guidance from the dead to find the light.”

See, it does, in some cases.

Take the flat earth community. It seems harmless enough, a bunch of twits who have fallen victim to a conspiracy theory that doesn't affect anyone else, all good.
But it isn't all good because it's a gateway conspiracy. I would say a majority of the flat earth community also believe in the covid conspiracies and are of course anti-vax. We have quickly gone from dimwit believing something silly to dangerous moron putting people at actual risk.

NeonTetras · 23/10/2021 13:54

I think people are getting confused here with belief vs fact. If there is a factual, scientific explanation for why a shadow is there or for noises in a room when it's occupied with people hence the noises, it's not about belief. It's about someone ie the OP being in the room and the one making the noise, or a light casting the shadow. If there is a straightforward explanation, why would you not say so?

TooBigForMyBoots · 23/10/2021 13:54
**@icedcoffees* You don't think these people were scammed and they don't have the right to know?? Honestly? Hmm Maybe it's just me, but if I saw people being scammed and/or getting the wrong impression when they've paid good money, I could not not* say something. I would consider it a moral civic duty, and I would have (until this thread) expected that any other person would feel the same. Shrugs (disappointed look). Sorry but I would still tell, and this thread has shocked me.
Do you shout at people going into the Bookies?

Pythonista · 23/10/2021 13:54

@brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr @JesusIsAnyNameFree

I don't think it's anyone's business what people believe, as long as it doesn't harm anyone else .

Hope that helps

But we need to stop the insanity before it gets to a point of harming other people. Like religious beliefs preventing people having the vaccine. Bunch of fucking dangerous shite.

HTH

Pythonista · 23/10/2021 13:57

And if people do believe something, telling them the truth (as you see it, anyway) is not going to change their minds. Especially if you present it in such a patronising manner as some of the posts on here.

And if you do tell people, it isn't because you care - it's because you have to ensure that they know you are superior

cortex10 · 23/10/2021 13:58

There is a German military cemetery in Staffordshire that's often subject to nighttime visits by paranormal groups that post live feeds on Facebook. It can be amusing when they start Googling useful phrases in German to make contact with the spirits...but on balance it's pretty disrespectful given the nature of the location.

Pythonista · 23/10/2021 14:00

Well you crack on and try to police people's beliefs.

Believing in God and not having the vaccine is dangerous regardless of reason. Believing in God but having the vaccine anyway is not dangerous.

It's not having the vaccine that is dangerous in your example. Plenty of people without religious beliefs don't have it.

I do very much care about people not believing shit because as I said, even the harmless little beliefs lead to ones that harm others.

Don't tell me what I care about or what my motivations are.

TooBigForMyBoots · 23/10/2021 14:00

What about religious beliefs that promote vaccinations? They ok?

ChargingBuck · 23/10/2021 14:00

@Getyourownback I hope you haven't sold the film rights yet.
I could ... help you with that. I have at least as many Hollywood connections as anyone else on the thread, & my spiritual guide just happens to be a Seminole Native America, so will be v. handy for on-site negotiations.

Pythonista · 23/10/2021 14:01

Well perhaps don't tell people that you think their opinions and beliefs are shit then.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 23/10/2021 14:02

@TooBigForMyBoots

Do they promote other harmful things like women shouldn't wear certain things or people of other religions are worth less?
