I ruined the ghost hunt

I was away last week staying in a castle. Supposedly a very haunted castle but I don’t believe in shit like that, I just like history.

Anyway during the night there was a paranormal investigation going on. I had to walk through the castle on my own to retrieve something from the car and as I walked through one room these guys were surrounding a door recording it and had all their equipment set up around it etc. I needed to get through it. I held back a bit (this was 10pm at night and I was tired, wanting to go to bed). Anyway the door moved slightly and they all got excited. I seriously just needed to get to my car so pointed out that this particular door always moves due to the draught coming up the stairs. Well they all looked daggers at me and asked what I was doing there!! I said I needed to get through the door! So they huffed ans puffed and moved all their shit and the leader said they would have to start again due to interference. I went through, got the stuff out of my car and made my way back through the castle. Unfortunately they had set all their stuff up again. I went through the door and set all the alarms off and they got angry and one said “let’s move to a different area, this is ridiculous”. I didn’t say anything, just headed back to my apartment.

Later that night I opened the bedroom window and instantly was hit with torches in my face. They had got excited due to “movement” from a “haunted room”. I got annoyed, went down to where they were and asked how much longer this would be going on. They said all night. So I told them where I was staying, pointed to the windows and said any movement from these rooms is just me walking around. They were not friendly. As I was speaking one started shrieking about a chandelier swinging in another room and they all went running. I went with them and pointed out the big fuck off fireplace that would inevitably cause a draught going through the room causing anything “hanging” to move. I was then told to “go away!” And was told I was ruining a night that had been planned for months. I told them they were ruining my night that had been planned for months too.
Who was being unreasonable?

@Pythonista

Move on

emlouwat · 23/10/2021 12:10

Ha ha ha. Brilliant.

BadNomad · 23/10/2021 12:11

Misery guts.

When you're tripping over children in shopping malls this Christmas are you going to point out that that "Santa" is just a man in a red suit? Leave people alone.

TheChiefJo · 23/10/2021 12:15

@Cocomarine

If you don't believe it happened (and I can see why you might question it) then how was OP being a dick? Is the point you are making that OP would have been a dick if it did happen? That OP is being a dick by making up a story in which she's a dick?

Pythonista · 23/10/2021 12:15

@whatsthpoint Actually I don't. But I don't see why someone being a dick about it is so hilarious

NearLifeExperience · 23/10/2021 12:15

Some people will believe any old shite.

Pythonista · 23/10/2021 12:16

Has anyone spat out their tea into the keyboard yet. Or woke the baby?

SoupDragon · 23/10/2021 12:19

We get it. You believe in ghosts.

I don't believe in ghosts and I think it was dickish behaviour on the part of the OP 🤷🏻‍♀️

Catflapkitkat · 23/10/2021 12:20

OP that is so funny.

In a zoo - that would be called enrichment. They were lucky to have your .... presence

herecomesthsun · 23/10/2021 12:21

Did any of them call you a pesky kid at any point?

Livpool · 23/10/2021 12:21

You were a bit mean to spoil their fun

Tubs11 · 23/10/2021 12:21

You have too much time on your hands

Cottonheadedninymuggins · 23/10/2021 12:21

@JesusInTheCabbageVan

Me too Grin Could you not have managed a small ooooOOOOOooo or something to keep them happy?
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

It's one of the few threads that make me laugh out loud IRL :D

Oh I believe some of it happened!
I believe that OP stayed at Chillingham last week.
I believe that there were “ghost hunters” there.
I believe that she was smartarse rude to them on first encountering them.
I believe that they weren’t friendly towards her - but I think it was as a result of her initial rudeness (even her own OP shows that came from her).

What I don’t believe is that she set off an alarm going back through the door - and whatever she did disturb, I’m sure was quite deliberate.

What I also don’t believe is that she oh so coincidentally opened a window in torchlight distance of them and they did any more than naturally react to look towards it.

I tend not to believe that she then even started following them around outside, but as it makes her look even more of a dick, it could be true 🤣

OP is trying to make a funny story of it, but she hasn’t the literary style to pull it off.

ShirleyPhallus · 23/10/2021 12:33

@brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Yes I’m able to think critically, but who is it hurting for them to believe in something? Why be the dick who “should challenge” them as you say?

ChargingBuck · 23/10/2021 12:41

@TheDuchessOfDork

Well you didn't need to follow them and start pointing out the obvious, so for that I think you were UR. Up to them if they want to buy into that sort of nonsense.

Other than that, you weren't. If they wanted an experience with no chance of other guests disturbing things then they should have booked a venue in its entirety. It is completely stupid for them to have thought no other guests would move around.

Did you speak to the hotel about it?

& they didn't need to block access to OP's exit route to her car, & then re-block it before she even had the chance to come back in.

They certainly didn't need to challenge her right to be there, as a paying overnight guest.

I can't believe you are even faintly defending a bunch of space-entitled males who think it's ok to shine a torch in at OP's bedroom windows.

Totallydefeated · 23/10/2021 12:42

Why be the dick who “should challenge” them as you say?

Good question. It seems that some people are very controlling of other people’s views and find it hard to tolerate views they think are ‘wrong’.

TheBlackArt · 23/10/2021 12:42

@Pythonista

Has anyone spat out their tea into the keyboard yet. Or woke the baby?
Has anyone's DH/DC come into the room yet to see what they find so amusing?
TheBlackArt · 23/10/2021 12:43

Anyway, total twat behaviour.

Why purposefully try and spoil someone's evening? Or are you just pretty miserable?

Suzi888 · 23/10/2021 12:45

Hotel’s fault. Why was all their stuff obstructing you getting to your room?Confused

Yourstupidityexhaustsme · 23/10/2021 12:46

Jesus, I would complain to the hotel MASSIVELY.

In fact, I'd want a discount. WTF. You're paying for what we can assume to be an expensive stately-home type hotel and they few times you've dared venture around you're being snapped at by a random camera crew doing a 'ghost hunt'?

Were you informed this would be happening in advance?

Alwaysonthegoslow · 23/10/2021 12:48

You sound a right pita! Let them enjoy it. Why did you need to follow them?

MamsellMarie · 23/10/2021 12:51

I think you're a big misery - who would go out of their way to spoil the fun.

ImInStealthMode · 23/10/2021 12:52

YWBU to follow them about pissing on their chips, but they were also BU to be huffy that you wanted to walk through their set-up, since it sounds like you had every right to.

I once accidentally ended up wandering the countryside with a bunch of woo ghost hunters. It was advertised as a ghost walk the likes of which you find in York or Edinburgh but was actually a load of weirdos paranormal enthusiasts taking photos of nothing and screeching about anything that showed up on the camera screen (for example a reflected flash from someone else taking pictures of nothing). It was bloody awful but we didn't rain on the parade, we just shut up, put up and laughed about it in the pub afterwards.

Stoppochoco · 23/10/2021 12:54

Fun sponge.
Don't get why you would book into a castle, if it is Chillingham, that promotes itself as a haunted castle seemingly unaware that this kind of stuff might be going on during your stay.
