as I'm finding things pretty grim at the moment, I was wondering if other posters would like to share what's cheered them up today - no matter how fleetingly.
Mine has been discovering videos of Stanley Tucci cooking on Youtube. What a cool guy.

-got a lot done at work today
-17-year-old actually chatted with us at the dinner table instead of bolting down food and racing upstairs

Dobbyismyabsolutefav · 21/10/2021 22:24

@BrilloPaddy Lucky you! I'm will be in a queue at 10am tomorrow.

secretbookcase · 21/10/2021 22:24

Had a really silly conversation by text with an old friend. It made me splutter with laughter. And caught up with another friend for a walk up the hill in the early morning sunshine, also a pleasure. Also got confirmation of a short but sweet freelance gig next year - lovely work in a beautiful place for good money.

Fudgein · 21/10/2021 22:25

I work in a childrens hospital (HCA so not a big decision maker or of any kind of importance really) & got a beautiful thank you card from a lovely family today. Most unexpected and not particularly deserved Blush I always try to be helpful and friendly if I can and it was so lovely to be noticed. Kindness really is all around us.

I had a milestone birthday last week and was underwhelmed by the gifts and effort of family. But I went to work today to find colleagues had decorated my office with banners and balloons, one had made chocolate cake, another shortbread, and they’d organised bacon butties, and gave me a bottle of Prosecco.

Nectarines · 21/10/2021 22:29

I needed flowers for my class to dissect in science. I got £49 worth of all the flowers I needed for under £3!! Was stupidly happy!

@Lynne1Cat

I walked about a mile into town, without stopping or getting out of breath - not much to most people, but as I had Covid, Pneumonia, and a stroke (all whilst on a ventilator for 2 weeks) in July, I felt really pleased with myself.
Love this!

On my way home this evening, I caught up with DH and 2yo DS on the way back from nursery. DS spotted me a little way off, pointed vigorously, shouted "MUMMY! MUMMY! I FOUND HER!", abandoned his scooter and ran at full pace towards me for a big hug with a massive smile on his face. One of those heartwarming parenting moments that makes up for the tantrums... I know I'm biased, but even a random bloke passing by stopped to say it was the cutest thing he's seen in a while!

20viona · 21/10/2021 22:32

Iv been for a full body massage it was excellent.

Umbongoumbongo999 · 21/10/2021 22:32

One of the doctors in my team brought a small tin of Indian biscuits from his recent trip home. They're like little shortbread almond fingers made with ghee and they are the best thing I've ever tasted 😁

Workyticket · 21/10/2021 22:32

Today has been a good day!

Usually I don't get time to eat lunch on a Thursday but the heavens aligned today and dh must have known it would because he text to say he'd put a sandwich in my bag. My lovely colleague made me a cuppa too.

My Thursday afternoon class can be hard work. However today we were doing a mini assessments and 1 student was so happy with her answers that she waved her arms around and sang "I'm so happy, my whole first page is correct"

It's an adult class. People from literally every walk of life - they all clapped for her! I had to nip to the loo as I was so touched my eyes leaked. 21 years in education and I've never had a happier 2 minutes in class.

Then... my 9 year old finished school for the holidays today. He is so shattered that he fell asleep curled up on my knee after telling me about his day.

Some days I'm a moany bitch. Today I'm happier than a pig in shit

Seeing pictures of my sons class Halloween party. The staff made a really nice effort. Proper table setting and party games. He’s never had that before, his new school is more like a mainstream school in that sense. (He has autism). His previous school wasn’t as bothered with fun stuff.
My daughter was selected as a prefect, I’m chuffed about that too!

Sparklesocks · 21/10/2021 22:35

It might sound a bit sad but I’ve been putting off filling in some screw holes in the wall and I finally did it today. Took about 5 mins with filler and a putty knife and job done - no idea why I’ve been putting it off. Anyway I felt immense satisfaction having finally done it and that wall looks so much better!

YukoandHiro · 21/10/2021 22:35

Bedtime with 1yo and 4yo DDs where everyone was laughing and nobody had a tantrum. 4yo was practising her reading just while 1yo started trying to take her first steps and I thought this is just a lovely evening and how proud of them both I am.

Right, sentimentality over now. Normal cynical service resumed :)

Workyticket · 21/10/2021 22:39

**I should say that the student is autistic and can struggle socially - she bloody stood up when everyone clapped! I'm so proud of her 💜

RightOnTheEdge · 21/10/2021 22:45

Walking out of the front doors into sunshine and fresh air after a stressful afternoon at work.

My dd coming home excited and proud to tell me that her team had come second in a football tournament with local schools and she had got a silver medal.

Dobbyismyabsolutefav · 21/10/2021 22:48

A really productive day at work and feeling happy that my DD is coming home from uni this weekend.

0DAAT · 21/10/2021 22:53

Lovely swim on holidays with sons aged 9 & 11. Teaching 9yo tumble turns. They still want me to swim with them!
Later they discovered the bidet & soaked the bathroom floor with the 'ass wiper'.
Thanks OP for making me remember.

Florencenotflo · 21/10/2021 22:53

I managed to spend 20 mins with dd2 and my mum at the park earlier on my lunch break. It was lovely and sunny, but quite cold. Dd was so happy just being on the swing, she was laughing her little head off.

Dd1 actually came home from school and managed to tone her attitude down a notch, despite being tired and grumpy. She's been horrendous the last few weeks being cheeky and backchatting, it's nice to see that even for one day she had listened and was trying to make an effort.

Oh and DH's overtime finally came in on this months pay slip. 6 months worth all paid in one lump, we've been so tight with money every month because a system error meant payroll couldn't add their overtime. But we've coped and we've now got a nice little chunk of money in time to do Christmas shopping.

MonkeyPuddle · 21/10/2021 22:58

I wore my new hairpiece around the house to get used to it. I’ve got hair loss due to PCOS and the hair loss has got worse since my second child was born. This is the first hair piece I’ve tried.
I spent a while getting it in the right spot on my head, and then wore it about the house. It probably sounds daft but I’m really happy, I’m looking forward (but also a bit scared!) to wearing it out the house and feeling good about myself.

MorvaanReed · 21/10/2021 23:00

I'm watching a Peter Gabriel live, from various concerts, in bits on You Tube and my day has improved enormously.

His version of Heroes, short, but lord luv a duck...

my8thMNusername · 21/10/2021 23:03

My incredible incredible child and my mum dressing her up in a unicorn fairy outfit while looking after her when I was working (from home). She was fluttering her arms like little wings and absolutely delighted to be dressed up in this random outfit from Tesco Grin and generally spent the afternoon telling me I'm her best friend Smile (she's 3)
