Ear piercing without consent at Meadowhall in Sheffield (might be triggering)

I'm amazed that I can't find another thread on this – and I know I'm not being unreasonable to find this video incredibly upsetting. Poor child, perhaps six or seven being pinned to the floor while having her ears pierced in a jewellery store at the Meadowhall in Sheffield, screaming her head off saying "no no no".
Should ear piercing be banned for say under 12s, until they're old enough to consent?
Warning - the video is very distressing to watch: twitter.com/mrscjos/status/1450020437744885761?s=10

@bendmeoverbackwards Yes, we went home and talked about it, and came back a few days later, done first time!

That’s great @Hotpinkangel19 he probably felt more relaxed knowing you’d got his back.

@Bagelsandbrie

I’ve seen this. It’s absolutely disgusting and heartbreaking.

Staff should be sacked and staff and those involved investigated for child cruelty.

Shop should be shut down.

This should never happen. Ear piercing should only happen when a child is old enough to give valid consent and take care of their ears themselves - I think about 12/13 as a minimum.

As a side not piercing with a gun should be banned anyway. Needle is always better, less scarring and less risk of infection.

This.

It was horrific. All for some jewelery.

Fuck - I've shared it to my friends online who know I love horror films, Squid Game, nasty films...

This is the only thing I have watched in years that has upset me. Like others, I wish I hadn't watched it. Watching real life child abuse is something that makes me sick, I've told my friends not to watch now.

That poor poor girl.

I also wish I had not shared it and will delete as it is not something that people should treat as voyer. Mum and staff need prosecuting.

It's not fir you to decide what triggers someone else.

Fwiw it made me feel sick, especially the mothers expression once it was finished.

Bloody hell I was just reading about another child abuse case in the mirror and a link to this story came up. Unbelievable. And that the store staff were complicit.

I'd have not been able to stand by and let this happen. In fact I'd have called the police there and then.

HeadPain · 24/10/2021 23:21

I don't think ear piercing should be banned under a certain age, but definitely if the child doesn't want it that should be criminal to do it to them.

I wonder what's happened since? Is the shop still open and/or offering ear piercing to kids?

Total and utter disgrace. My (albeit imaginary) children would not have this done to them . I think it's telling that while many men have pierced ears, it's rare that young boys are rushed to have it done and it only happens once theyre in their teens and ask for it.
