That FT work is killing me?

I do want to ask for part time but I can’t yet, and I have many months of full time and care of a baby.

Is anyone else in the same boat? I feel really sad about it today.

That’s really helpful. Thanks for your reply.

If you’re finding it tough go and speak to
Someone at school. They might be able to be flexible and work something out to give you a day off a week even though the timetable is done. Better to have you in work for 4 days a week and working than off work with stress 5 days a week.
Also consider how you can improve your weekend time. Can you get a cleaner or get your shopping online?
Best of luck. Teaching can feel relentless at times.

Shoot me down, but I'm finding it really strange you are saying your current situation is 'killing' you, but you are planning to have another child?

Not sure how that would help your mental health...

Autumntwilights · 17/10/2021 21:17

Well, because it is the work rather than the child that is killing me!

FT teacher with 2 under 5 here.
Yes term time is brutal, but holidays make up for it.

Clear boundaries on work and not work. DH does school drop off (non teacher) and I do all pick ups. I'm in work at 7 every morning and do a couple of evenings but nothing else. Weekends are sacred aside from Sunday evening.

If you can afford it, outsource cleaning. We'll be doing this soon to free up weekend time.

Shop one evening, supermarket is quieter and it's a job not to be done at the weekend.

Get a cleaner if you can, total game changer for me.

monkeysox · 20/10/2021 22:14

Get your food shopping delivered get a cleaner a d a gardener.
0.8 you might as well be full time.
0.6 like a normal full time job in term time.

Done it for the past 12 years! Mostly in jobs that required more than full time. You cope!
