AIBU to be disappointed in this cake…

I picked up dds cake today and it was not what I expected.

Would you be happy with this cake? I’ve attached two pics below, one was the pic I sent to the cake maker of what I wanted (a family dog) and the other picture is of the cake.

Also his head is made of Rice Krispies as apparently heads are hard to do. I wasn’t aware that it wouldn’t be all sponge.

It’s from a proper cake shop, not someone who does it as a hobby.

What do you all think?

What was weird about it?

lockdownalli · 16/10/2021 16:47

Gosh I really thought this was a reverse.

The cake does look like the dog Confused

Mummyoflittledragon · 16/10/2021 16:50

I’m also wondering what was weird about the cake, bar the Rice Krispies. Odd that they tasted stale. I’d wonder if that suggested the legs were made a fair time in advance and not presumed to be eaten.

LesLavandes · 16/10/2021 16:53

None of the children will care.

It is fine

DirtyDancing · 16/10/2021 16:53

When ever I get a cake made, I send a photo of something similar and then discuss if it'll be butter cream, smooth, carton/ serious type specs. That sounds a bit over prescribed... lol I mean I would have not only sent a pic of the dog but also a pic of the type of cake I want too. I would have wanted to know about the head thing before, but melted rice crispy squares sounds rather nice, as long as the main body is enough for the party size?

YearsSinceISawYou · 16/10/2021 17:00

It's a bit much making the legs from Rice Krispies, especially if you weren't told. They could have been oblong pieces of cake easily enough, swiss roll style.

It seems a bit too near the edge of sharp practice,

MrsFin · 16/10/2021 17:15

I agree with you OP. I think it's rubbish, and would be v v disappointed if I'd paid £110 for it not that I'd pay £110 for any cakecash----

Notwhatiimagined · 16/10/2021 17:17

I think they meant weird as in the legs were krispies too which i didnt know about ad they were stale.

It’s cute but I would be disappointed too if it was soposed to be more life like but cute

FortniteBoysMum · 16/10/2021 17:25

Looks good to me

LumpyandBumps · 16/10/2021 17:25

Completely off topic, but when I looked at the percentages just now they totalled 101! How odd.

TwinsandTrifle · 16/10/2021 17:25

The cake she wanted was a specialist cake. If I want a specialist item I go to a specialist. If I did go somewhere random then you are damn sure I'd be showing a picture.

Random? She went to a professional cake shop.

OP it's not on the head and legs were made of cereal on top of not doing what they said they would, appearance wise.

Janemain · 16/10/2021 17:28

How much did it cost?

budgiegirl · 16/10/2021 17:28

The rice krispies tasted stale!

I'm sure they wouldn't have been stale. When you make your own Rice Krispie treats, then squash them all about to mould the legs/head, they do lose their crispness as they absorb some of the moisture from the marshmallow/butter in the mix.

I do think you should have been told about them before ordering, but would it have stopped you placing the order, as long as there was still enough cake for your number of guests?
I often use Rice Krispie treats in modelled cakes, and I've yet to meet a client that decided not to place an order because of them.

ivegotdreadfulpmttoday · 16/10/2021 17:29

I'd be disappointed, too. £110 - it's a rip off. The piping isn't great, the ears and tail are really bad and the facial features are generic stick ons. I'd expect more from a professional, too.

CambsAlways · 16/10/2021 17:29

I think it’s cute for 30 quid , but more of a cartoon dog, doesn’t resemble your dog at all, I certainly wouldn’t be paying 110 pound that’s ludicrous not very professional

Explosivefarts · 16/10/2021 17:30

Its lovely

Jim8 · 16/10/2021 17:31

Rice Krispies is pretty standard for a cake like this.

karenjkayjay · 16/10/2021 17:33

It’s a cute cake but like others have said it’s like a cartoon dog and nothing like the dog in the photo, I would be disappointed as well especially as it cost so much money x

Bakingcupcake · 16/10/2021 17:33

@Notwhatiimagined

I think I was expecting it to look more like the dog.

It was £110, north west area

I agree with you OP i would be disappointed....its not the best representation of a dog nevermind the dog in your pic, i dont like how they've done the fur and for £110.00 I'd be expecting more!
LittleMissPlant · 16/10/2021 17:34

Yes, YABVU

It’s a lovely cake…what were you expecting? Miracles? Of course the head is made of rice crispies….

DanceItOut · 16/10/2021 17:35

Ok as a baker myself this Depends on several things, the price and what you were told beforehand. The head being Rice Krispies is not a surprise to me at all because of the weight of sponge. If it had all be sponge then even with supports it is likely that moving the cake to transport it would move the head and cause it to “crack” or even fall off. However I would’ve made sure to tell you this and why it had to be that way when you places your order. Also depending on your budget depends on whether I would try to do this with modelling chocolate or with buttercream, I do think they probably would’ve sculpted the head a little more as Rice Krispie treats are easier to mould. But it’s not bad. It’s difficult to gauge an exact size but I would say this cake is worth £80.

DagenhamRoundhouse · 16/10/2021 17:36

And what a gorgeous dog!

Michellelovesizzy · 16/10/2021 17:37

It's good not sure it's £110 good but bet it taste really nice x

Overtired201984 · 16/10/2021 17:39

I think it looks really good 👍🏻
