Huge mass in breast aibu to go to a&e ? **Diagnosis in and treatment underway for the OP** Title edited by MNHQ

Last week I went to the doctors - my right breast has a big mass in it that has appeared in the previous week.
He checked my liver, lymph nodes, so I know what he's thinking, and referred me to the breast clinic under the 14 day rule. Except it isn't 14 days, it's over three weeks before you can be seen. The gp can do nothing to speed things up apparently.
I thought I need to pay for a private mammogram, it's £400. I'm desperate - imagining the worst constantly.
Managed to get a referral sent by the gp to the private hospital, only to be told they're breast clinic has been cancelled for the next three weeks.
Aibu to go to a&e to get some medical advice or wait? The mass is getting bigger and painful each day.
What would you do? Thanks in advance.

It perfectly encapsulates your posts

It’s no wonder @needabitof hasn’t been back. Those turning this thread into point scoring should be ashamed.

femfemlicious · 18/10/2021 08:47

@sillysmiles 💯💯💯 this is exactly my train of thought. When you cannot access healthcare, do you sit at home dying silently? or go to a&e to be seen by a medical professional!

Yea I know. I didn’t want it to happen but I stupidly got involved with a poster with ‘form’ for it. Sad

I hope the OP is ok, I really Do.

Morning, I've just read the last few posts but haven't read the others so not sure what the disagreements are about - yet - but to update you- I saw the consultant on Friday, had a mammogram and an ultrasound which showed both breasts as being clear of signs of tumours/ lumps. The doctors could feel the mass but it didn't show up in the mammogram or ultrasound. He's arranged for me to have a more specialised mammogram tomorrow and given me antibiotics although he doesn't think it's a soft tissue infection as there's no redness or discharge. After that I think it will be a biopsy.
So I'm not sure what to make of it really.
I really appreciate your support and maybe this will help another woman.

@needabitof

So good to hear you managed to be seen and that there are no signs of tumours or lumps.

Very best wishes for tomorrow.

Glassofshloer · 18/10/2021 11:54

Thank God the worst is ruled out. Hopefully they’ll get to the bottom of whatever it is Flowers

EKGEMS · 18/10/2021 11:56

Best of luck! My cancer was detected early with a digital mammogram (I had dense breast tissue)

StrongArm · 18/10/2021 12:00

@needabitof poor you, hope it wasn't too painful in the mammogram. I nearly fainted when I had a big lump and they tried to squish me between the plates! x

BlueSuffragette · 18/10/2021 12:09

Best wishes to you OP. Hopefully soon they will find out what it is and start you on the road to recovery. xx Flowers

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 18/10/2021 12:23

Best of luck for tomorrow

Getyourownback · 18/10/2021 13:40

That’s a very positive start @needabitof 💜 sinister things have been ruled. There’s so many reasons why we get lumps and bumps and I hope you have peace of mind after the appointment.

Immaculatemisconception · 18/10/2021 13:41

Thanks for the update @needabitof, I've been thinking about you. Fingers crossed that everything turns out to be nothing much. Flowers

PigeonLittle · 18/10/2021 14:27

Hope everything goes ok. How confusing for you Flowers

I had a core biopsy on a lump, just wanted to reassure you I could barely feel a thing. It was good talking as they were doing it. The sonographers are very involved in treatment and care etc so it was good to talk it over.

Everything was benign.

Best of luck to you Star

me4real · 18/10/2021 14:43

@needabitof That sounds very good news really.

impossible · 18/10/2021 16:19

Thanks for updating. Good that you're now in the system. Hope all goes well.

Jonstantlycuggling · 18/10/2021 17:50

Flowers great to hear your update

LuluJakey1 · 18/10/2021 22:38

I hope things have gone well with the specialised mammogram and that you have had a good outcome so you can stop worrying.

KeyboardWorriers · 18/10/2021 23:08

I .pleased to see you have made progress op, I really hope you get a full answer soon

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 19/10/2021 06:17

Glad to hear that nothing obvious has shown up but sorry that means they haven't found the actual cause yet! Hopefully the next procedure will give some clarification for you.

chocolateorangeinhaler · 19/10/2021 07:27

What do you expect A&E to do exactly? There is nothing they can do apart from dish out pain meds if you need them.
The wait from detection to scans and biopsy to multi panel discussion over treatment feels like it takes years. It's weeks really. Phone up the breast clinic and see if you can get in earlier. Schedulers love patients who are flexible. If you can go in at short notice it could bring you forward a few weeks.
