Huge mass in breast aibu to go to a&e ? **Diagnosis in and treatment underway for the OP** Title edited by MNHQ

Last week I went to the doctors - my right breast has a big mass in it that has appeared in the previous week.
He checked my liver, lymph nodes, so I know what he's thinking, and referred me to the breast clinic under the 14 day rule. Except it isn't 14 days, it's over three weeks before you can be seen. The gp can do nothing to speed things up apparently.
I thought I need to pay for a private mammogram, it's £400. I'm desperate - imagining the worst constantly.
Managed to get a referral sent by the gp to the private hospital, only to be told they're breast clinic has been cancelled for the next three weeks.
Aibu to go to a&e to get some medical advice or wait? The mass is getting bigger and painful each day.
What would you do? Thanks in advance.

Silkieschickens delurking to wish you a good recovery and all the best for the results. xx

Thanks everyone. Yes no drains is great, can move and normally though then read not supposed to move it above shoulder level first week, oops. Very little pain atm, not managed to sleep as have to drink a lot to catch up but now hoping to catch up. Sounded fairly confident in breast, issue maybe lymph nodes, on scans are all clear but said lobular is often worse on surgery.

Sounds promising Silkies! Glad you’re not too sore. Keep us posted x

Muchuseaschocolateteapot · 19/12/2021 00:52

I can’t believe how well you sound @Silkieschickens, I’m so pleased. I hope the worst is behind you now. Gentle hugs x

NeverEndingFireworks · 19/12/2021 09:57

Lots of love to you @needabitof and you @Silkieschickens I keep checking in for your updates. I had a friend staying recently who we all were told had a very poor prognosis when she had surgery seven years ago - she's still going strong and has flown to friends overseas for Christmas - having fitted me in between holidays😎. Modern treatments for BC are amazing and her care has been brilliant.

LuluBlakey1 · 22/12/2021 16:03

@Silkieschickens Sounds like it went well- Am really pleased for you. Enjoy Christmas and we'll all be hoping for really good news in your follow-up appointment too. x

Silkieschickens · 24/12/2021 07:20

Thanks all and hope you all have good Christmases. It did go very well though now have fluid build up so need to go back to hospital today and maybe NYE for draining though a fairly standard complication and then get results on 14th January. MRI report through confirms stage 3.

Silkieschickens · 24/12/2021 07:25

Thanks I am Silkie with NC. In end needed to do 2 surgeries, chemo and radio, all done now and doing hormone treatment for 10 years. Was offered a 2 year trial of abemaciclib but declined. Appointment tomorrow then about 3 more and over. Nearly there. Thanks for asking.

Hope you are OK and finished Needabitof

SameTimeNextWeek · 13/10/2022 02:08

Pleased to hear you're doing ok @Silkierabbit.
Hope you are well too @needabitof

MatchaTea · 13/10/2022 04:44

Lovely update @Silkierabbit . So happy for you the active part of treatment is over.
Why the 28 mont wait for reconstruction? Is it because you need to be healed?

Riverlee · 13/10/2022 06:12

Read the first thread thinking it was current, then realised it’s a year old.

Hope a year on you’re doing well. I’m now ten years since first being diagnosed. it does change your life. Getting the diagnosis was difficult but the treatment I had wasn’t too bad (didn’t have chemo). However, afterwards, I found the emotions and ‘what-ifs’ hit me. Also, ten years on, I still worry about every bit of slight breast pain, and am nervous in case another lump is discovered. Concerns I never had before. However, life goes on, and for the most part, I try not to think about it.

malificent7 · 13/10/2022 06:21

Go to a and e...i work in a and e and won't begrudge you being there.

malificent7 · 13/10/2022 06:23

Ooops...noticed update...hop all is good.

Herejustforthisone · 13/10/2022 07:29

So pleased to read that @Silkierabbit. X

millymog11 · 13/10/2022 07:59

Insist on another appointment with the GP. If that fails go to A&E.
I say that as someone who had a mass in my right breast for about 3 years which I ignored for many reasons (many of the reasons were stress related but let me tell you that is no excuse on my part) and it turned out to be stage 3 breast cancer.
6 rounds chemo, radiotherapy and all manner of horrible treatments later (including a mastectomy) I am still here but please prioritise this today. x

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 13/10/2022 08:01

THIS IS AN OLD THREAD READ IT FIRST WITHOUT TELLING OP TO GO TO A&E!

Mano2020 · 13/10/2022 08:47

@Silkierabbit so nice to hear your update. All the best for you. Wishing you a lot of happiness and health for the future.
