Huge mass in breast aibu to go to a&e ? **Diagnosis in and treatment underway for the OP** Title edited by MNHQ

Last week I went to the doctors - my right breast has a big mass in it that has appeared in the previous week.
He checked my liver, lymph nodes, so I know what he's thinking, and referred me to the breast clinic under the 14 day rule. Except it isn't 14 days, it's over three weeks before you can be seen. The gp can do nothing to speed things up apparently.
I thought I need to pay for a private mammogram, it's £400. I'm desperate - imagining the worst constantly.
Managed to get a referral sent by the gp to the private hospital, only to be told they're breast clinic has been cancelled for the next three weeks.
Aibu to go to a&e to get some medical advice or wait? The mass is getting bigger and painful each day.
What would you do? Thanks in advance.

@needabitof - hope your appointment went well and they sorted your problem out ok - hope it was nothing to worry about!

Hope all is well op

ZenNudist · 16/10/2021 06:49

What an ordeal. I'm glad you now have an appointment. I wish you luck.

isthismylifenow · 16/10/2021 07:01

Hope all is well OP.

What a run around though. I am sorry that it is so difficult to have an emergency routine check done now.

olympicsrock · 16/10/2021 07:06

So sorry you had to go through it. If GP and failed then A&E was absolutely the right place. This is an emergency and A&E could have Organised a same day US and referred to surgeons/ breast team for drainage if required .

It’s astonishing that some posters would see a thread by someone who would obviously be petrified of what they’re dealing with, and still choose to be a total twat. @HalzTangz and @Flufferty I’m looking at you. Jesus Christ. Not a shred of humanity.

unhappyhomebuyer · 16/10/2021 09:39

Good luck OP. So glad you’re able to be seen.

Just gone back to both those posts

All they are saying is that despite sympathising with the op they don’t feel appropriate for A&E.

Indeed, i mentioned to my A&E doc brother. He said no, not appropriate.

They would treat the pain with pain relief but nothing more than paracetamol. But if they suspected cancer, they would not order scams. They would say to go to GP

Reallyimeanreally2022 · 16/10/2021 10:17

@Getyourownback

Just been listening to the radio about the importance of being able to discuss and disagree with one another - without having to resorting to criticising the person

GenghisCalm · 16/10/2021 10:29

@Reallyimeanreally2022 you are missing the point that @Getyourownback and I were making, people are replying at the end of a thread that the OP shouldn't go to A&E when if they had read the thread or even filtered and read the OP's posts only, they would see that she has already managed to be seen at the Breast Clinic. So posting don't go to A&E is about three or four days too late.

Did you read what that poster wrote
“Twat”
“Not a shred of humanity”

My point was. These posters expressed sympathy and a response to the specific question the OP asked.

Perhaps they missed the updates. We’ve all done it. I didn’t like the name calling etc to a different view to the majority

You’ve missed my point entirely. The thread had essentially drawn to a conclusion but they still fell over themselves to actively criticise a panicked enquiry as to whether she should attend A&E.

Which, incidentally, is not such a mad idea. I had a friend who developed sepsis from a rapidly growing lump, which was painful, from a mastitis which had occurred quickly. It was very much required that she attend an acute clinical setting.

It was not about having differing viewpoints here, it’s about taking the opportunity to criticise a decision which was already made. Surely you can see that?

Reallyimeanreally2022 · 16/10/2021 10:46

Again, that hyperbole

This poster did not “fall over themselves to actively critisize”

The poster wrote I’m sorry you’re in pain. It’s not an accident or an emergency and not appropriate to go to A and E. Call 111 or the GP

0palescent · 16/10/2021 10:56

Ok fine. Let’s stop derailing and remember there’s a frightened woman at the heart of this.

You de railed by criticising a sympathetic post that you didn’t agree with re A&E

I’ve been where the OP is, it’s so, so frightening. I didn’t want her to come back to the thread and see ridiculous posts attacking her for suggesting A&E, which actually wasn’t that stupid an idea. Grow. Up.
