..in them that I have been told are highly toxic and potentially lethal to babies (is this true?)

Several of my friends have been complaining lately about how often their LO nappy disintegrates at night and they find gel crystals all over their bottoms.

Given how stringent rules are about products for babies and children, some ridiculously so, I find it odd that nappy companies are allowed to use gel crystals if they are a) highly toxic and b) don't stay in the nappy so that the baby has access to them.

I use cloth but I'm not trying to be holier than thou here, I am genuinely wondering whether I am misinformed or over reacting.

My daughters nappies split on the odd occasion and she too was a big wee'er.

Apparently it is a different type of gel . Can't see how myself, but I suppose there are different types of anhydrous gels out there - some which may be more toxic than others.

Would like to know more really but unfortunately finding out the facts about these sorts of things seems a bit difficult doesn't it? Doesn't bother me as I would be cloth regardless of the gels etc (I find it easier for a start) but when advising others I like to give them the facts and not a load of hysteria (which comes from both sides pro disposable and pro cloth IME)

Ds1 was a great sleeper >>>>> and more than once we had a gel explosion. One of the reasons we switched to cloth. At least you know what's in them.
