What is happening to the uk? No food on the shelves, the cost of living has become extortionate coupled with stagnating wages it seems this is a country where unless your in the higher income bracket you really can't afford to live anymore.
Poverty is going to be rife I dread to think the amount of people who will be choosing between food or heating this year.
Aibu to think this country has gone to shit of the likes we have not seen for a long time.
I am lower income and feel like I can't afford to live anymore.

@WhyOhWhyOhWhyyyy

Yeah, it’s almost like Brexit was a bad idea, who knew!
Right?!
RolloTomassi · 09/10/2021 20:57

The headlines are unnerving but the truth is if I didn't go online I wouldn't think twice - plenty of food available and fuel situation back to normal where I am. I've decided there's no point fretting until it actually happens, if it does.

DroopyClematis · 09/10/2021 20:57

@Chloemol

If people stopped believing the crap on the media it would help

There is no food shortage, plenty is available, perhaps not say the brand of cream crackers they want, but others are available

I suggest you all google what’s happening in the world outside the uk. It’s all shit

You say to look at the world outside. Ok, Lebanon has no power at all. Plunged into a cold darkness. A major cable delivering electricity to UK has burned leaving the uk with a major deficit in its power source.

My local supermarket has a large number of its freezers empty. It has barely any pasta, scant salad and veg, no skimmed milk , a bare bread section which had bagels, seeded shite and muffins. Also only pet treats but not actual pet food. Freezers had lots of gaps.

Major industrial units and factories have expressed concerns about their current viability given the enormous fuel price hikes.

What bubble are you living in?

forinborin · 09/10/2021 20:59

@Mamamia7962

I think what's more worrying is the situation with China and Taiwan.
Yes. Well, and the impact on the global distribution chains from it.
DnVLittle · 09/10/2021 21:00

Me too.
I have a 1 year old and I worry about how things will be for her.
We live in a flat with just electric. No electricity, means no nothing, heat or food.

Ilovegreentomatoes · 09/10/2021 21:00

@Marguerite2000 some people more than others are just able to live in their own secure bubble.

Unfortunately it's not just the UK, these pressures are being felt world wide and is one huge over flow from covid

Oh, do give over.

I spend a lot of time in another European country. There is no problem there

zoemum2006 · 09/10/2021 21:01

We have quantifiable evidence of the damage that the dodgy Brexit deal has done to the UK. We know the costs and restrictions.

None of this was what was ever mentioned in 2016 and yet people defend it like it was spelled out to us.

I'm fed up of the crooks making a mess of this country. A country that I do really like and it makes me angry how the government are running us into the ground.

laidbacklife · 09/10/2021 21:03

“I suggest you all google what’s happening in the world outside the uk. It’s all shit”

I don’t need to google it. I travel for work and have been in Italy, Germany, Spain and France recently. No fuel shortages and no evidence of empty shelves either. Granted I’ve not visited Syria or Afghanistan, I expect we compare favourably still to then.

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 09/10/2021 21:03

People chose a shite leadership and now they have to suffer the consequence's of it. Unfortunately some of us who didnt vote for this nutjob will also have to suffer

luckylavender · 09/10/2021 21:03

@ThirdElephant - you're swallowing the propaganda I see.

baroqueandblue · 09/10/2021 21:04

The country is not going to shit, but if people keep talking it down it will.

@BoredZelda The reality for many people is, things are shit and shitting hard and it's only going one way for the time being. But hey, as long as they don't say anything about it, you can rest easy in your smug bed.

Some of those people only have a sense of basic power in this situation when they describe their horrendous plight. How dare you try to silence them because the truth doesn't suit you? Hmm

Hulkynothunky · 09/10/2021 21:05
@ThirdElephant - you're swallowing the propaganda I see.
It was almost verbatim!

Disabrie22 · 09/10/2021 21:05

I think the standards we are used to have dropped (and we were lucky to have those of course.) What frustrates me is the massive price hikes I see going on and no change in salaries. I really feel priced out of everything now.
I think Covid, awful government and Brexit have definitely made this a less desirable country to live in.

Zotter · 09/10/2021 21:05

Austerity that began in 2011 that didn’t even achieve it’s aim of reducing the national debt, just stripped back public services, welfare , stymied growth causing misery all round.

Brexit

CoVid.

Meanwhile the v rich keep adding billions to their vast wealth.

midsomermurderess · 09/10/2021 21:06

Not forgetting E. coli in tap water somewhere in England. What, as they say, a time to be alive.

BunsyGirl · 09/10/2021 21:06

@Ilovegreentomatoes Well if you continue to read the Daily Mail et al you’re not going to feel better any time soon…we have one big problem in this country…the media.

lovelyupnorth · 09/10/2021 21:06

Some fuckers voted for this shit

Then the same fuckers voted for the lying cheating toss pot that’s in number 10

Then add a bit of Covid

And we haven’t even implemented all the rules yet. More shit to come.

SirGawain · 09/10/2021 21:08

The Tories themselves will kick Boris out long before the next election. The MPs in marginal seats will be getting worried about losing their seats.

IpanemaPeaHen · 09/10/2021 21:08

Brexit effects are kicking in and it’s only just beginning. Sad and unnecessary economic harm but it’s what the country voted for in 2016.

Hulkynothunky · 09/10/2021 21:08
@Ilovegreentomatoes Well if you continue to read the Daily Mail et al you’re not going to feel better any time soon…we have one big problem in this country…the media.
Well that and the government!

Some people are able to keep things in perspective.

YABU it would be worse with Jeremy Corbyn.
Roussette · 09/10/2021 21:10

we are at the start of a big big problem.
It's only going to get very worse.

and isn't it strange?

Anyone who I just know voted for brexit are now denying it. And on Twitter all those who challenged anything I had to say from the time the decision was made.... they've all disappeared. And have amnesia and are now saying ' I can't remember how I voted '

Yeah right....Hmm

OwlIceCrem · 09/10/2021 21:10

Whenever I get worried about this sort of thing my DH says “In a thousand years this will all be dust” 😂 Not trying to be facetious but the point is that people have been through far worse in history, great depressions, mass inflation etc and things always keep going. He reads a lot of history and worries far less than me- there must be a connection 😄
