What age is Paw Patrol for?

I've seen a few threads on here where people have said their 6YO kids like Paw Patrol. Which has left me a bit Confused.

My 6YO DS is of the opinion that Paw Patrol is for babies. I can't say any of his class mates like it either. I'm secretly quite glad my DC enjoy other things and I'm no longer subjected to 'Rubble on the double' anymore.

(Disclaimer - A lot of my parenting choices are very un- mumsnet and I wonder if I'm a terrible parent for exposing my DC to the dangers of Pokemon, Bakugan and Minecraft at a delicate age).

Around 2-4? DS1 is 5.5 and doesn't ask to watch the cartoon anymore but enjoyed the movie at the cinema.

thewhatsit · 10/10/2021 08:21

@CarryOnNurse20

I hope if they say it’s ‘babyish’ you remind them kindly that everyone likes their own thing and not to judge others, just because they don’t like it it’s silly to like it etc’

My DD has just started reception. She wore a peppa pig dress on free dress day and a girl in her class laughed at her and called her a baby. She was absolutely gutted and changed into her PE kit. The fact that this kind of behaviour happens so early and parents like you don’t help breaks my heart.

FWIW DD can watch peppa/paw patrol when she’s 13 and I won’t care a bit.

This is so sad. My DS is year 1 and he’ll happily still watch Peppa Pig… I think he finds it comforting as he has always watched it.

What age do children start playing video games? I’ve not come across it yet with any school friends thank God.

waterrat · 10/10/2021 08:22

Don't make kids feel wrong for watching cartoons. My 7 Yr old watches v young stuff and I worry about her being picked on

Literally nobody gives a shit at your crazy pokemon watching choices

waterrat · 10/10/2021 08:23

My 7 Yr old had a Peppa pig bag still in year 1 and I did worry but nobody said anything thankfully.

ChirpyChirp · 10/10/2021 08:40

Your post does come across as judgemental, whether you meant it that way or not.

DS1 is 11 and his 'likes' are often younger than what his peers like. He totally owns it though. When someone said his favourite character was for babies he just laughed and said of course it wasn't, because he liked it and he wasn't a baby (he was 9 or 10 at the time) In the end lots of his classmates decided that they liked it too 🤷🏻‍♀️ And he still loves it today at rising 12!

TheGrumpyGoat · 10/10/2021 08:47

Mine have never liked it, but I can’t see why a 6 year old wouldn’t enjoy it? It’s not like it’s In the Night Garden or anything like that!

thislifetoo · 10/10/2021 09:02

My just 4 year old likes it and my 6 year old is still happy to watch it but not as into it as 4 year old. He doesn't say it's baby ish or anything like that, he wouldn't say that about anything. I'd rather him be watching that at only 6 than minecraft/pokemon or anything like that!

MrsStrongman · 10/10/2021 09:07

My DS is 6 in May and will still watch it. He likes playing with the toys more than watching it at the moment but equally loves to watch Pokémon, Jurassic world & CBeebies. I don't worry too much about what he's watching as long as it's not wildly inappropriate.
He's currently obsessed with Steve & Maggie on prime which is the most tedious thing I've watched and definitely aimed at younger children.

Flowersinthefireplace · 10/10/2021 09:42

Re-reading you OP you think you’re quite a ‘cool mum’ don’t you? You sound very superior and that’s not very kind.

ShepherdMoons · 10/10/2021 09:47

@thewhatsit at my dd's school a little boy was playing Fortnite when he was in Year 1. Dd's now in Year 3 and the vast majority play video games, she's tried it but she's not into it.

NatriumChloride · 10/10/2021 23:04

I don’t think the OP is returning somehow… Hmm

Probably too busy watching pg-13 programmes. They do tend to have longer episodes.
NatriumChloride · 11/10/2021 00:13

😂😂

MyDcAreMarvel · 11/10/2021 00:30

My six year old loves paw patrol, he also loves countdown, and can complete the numbers round. No correlation between enjoying an animated show and maturity or intellect.

BathMatToe · 11/10/2021 00:53

You're a cool mom. We get it.
Cool stuff, tv's in bedroom. Nespresso machine next to the beds.

Paw patrol. Yeah thank God your inappropriately advanced mini adult doesbt watch that crap...mmh

MrsE2015 · 03/07/2024 06:36

My four year old, loves paw patrol. He is also autistic and therefore I think paw patrol may be on our screens for a very long time... we have not long advanced from cocomelon
So right now I'm a thankful mama as listening to cocomelon all day every day was not much fun.

Happy Paw Patrol GIF by PAW Patrol: The Movie

I am nearly thirty and a big fan. HTH.

LadyFeatheringt0n · 03/07/2024 06:47

I'm happy that my dc still like "babyish" tv etc and aren't pestering me to let them watch scarier "older" tv. There are kids in his class with parents who clearly think its "cool" to let 6&7 year olds watch 12+ films, play computer games aimed at teens etc. I am 100% ok with being considered "strict".

LizzyGamingNumberFanagram · 09/09/2024 19:58

The film (2nd one only) is NOT to be watched by babies or toddlers! The 2023 one only!

LizzyGamingNumberFanagram · 09/09/2024 19:59

The 2023 paw patrol would be good! (Yeah, more action! And more violent than the original show that I thought was based on a horror film)

verabarbleen · 09/09/2024 20:19

My 3 and 5 year old have liked it since around age 2.5 , 5 year old prefers spidey now but will still watch it with his little sister . I had a quick goggle and it seems it's aimed up untill 6ish but all kids are different

What age is Paw Patrol for?
Chocolateorange22 · 09/09/2024 20:41

My 5 year old says she's too old for it now. The 3 year old does still enjoy it. She watched the movie when she was almost 4 I think. It wasn't much longer after this when she went off it.

EsmeSusanOgg · 09/09/2024 20:51

Bluerasperry · 09/10/2021 14:32

I've not really asked a question, have I? Do your school age kids like Paw Patrol or not?

Yes. And whilst they are moving into Pokemon (6 year olds, but most the young end of 6) it is still enjoyed by many. I think it becomes less cool to admit liking it as you leave infants and head into juniors. Peak age seems to be 3 to 5. But 2 to 8 seems to cover core audience. Ditto Spidey and his Amazing Friends.

Yes! This.

DinosaurMunch · 09/09/2024 20:54

This is why. Your kids watch a lot of TV. They are probably just bored of it having watched hours and hours. A child that watches less TV will stay entertained for longer.

It's not that they have truly outgrown paw patrol.

Unless they are now watching university challenge.

Have to say I wonder why anyone would put a TV in a 6 year old child's bedroom. Unless it's just to encourage them to go.in there and leave you alone. Seems a bit sad really
