What age is Paw Patrol for?

I've seen a few threads on here where people have said their 6YO kids like Paw Patrol. Which has left me a bit Confused.

My 6YO DS is of the opinion that Paw Patrol is for babies. I can't say any of his class mates like it either. I'm secretly quite glad my DC enjoy other things and I'm no longer subjected to 'Rubble on the double' anymore.

(Disclaimer - A lot of my parenting choices are very un- mumsnet and I wonder if I'm a terrible parent for exposing my DC to the dangers of Pokemon, Bakugan and Minecraft at a delicate age).

My 7yo was watching it earlier, he doesn't let other people dictate his Netflix likes and is a keen watcher of My Little Pony and Gabby's Treehouse.

ChocolateRiver · 09/10/2021 16:05

My dd is 6 and isn’t into paw patrol anymore she did like it at around 3-4 though. She likes things like Sophia the First and Mira etc on Disney now. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of her classmates did still like it though.

@Milkbottlelegs

I think they all have a limited attention span for these things. So they discover a new show, obsess about it for a few months or maybe a bit longer, then lose interest when they discover the next show. Repeat.

I think DC went PJ Masks, Paw Patrol, super wings.

So maybe the 6 year olds that still like paw patrol discovered it a bit later?

I never thought about it like this, but this is very true. Its not about a programme being "babyish" it's probably more about whether that child happened to watch that programme when they were younger. My 7yo has only recently discovered Ben 10 and he thinks it's this awesome new show.
NoWordForFluffy · 09/10/2021 16:11

My 7 and 8 year olds still go through phases of watching it and enjoy it. They also love Minecraft.

Every child is different. 🤷‍♀️

toffeeshock · 09/10/2021 16:13

My 6yo loved it, stopped watching for a bit and now loves it again after seeing the film. My 8yo still enjoys it too.

AllWaxedOut · 09/10/2021 16:18

My 6 (nearly 7) year old DS and 8yo DD don't often choose to watch it anymore, but will of it's on. I think that's the shame of streaming on Netflix/ Disney+ that are really only exposed to what they pick.

I always think it's sad when adults tell children they are too old for something or tease, even in a jokey way.

I sometimes put cbeebies on for my two because there are some great shows. I also can't bear some of the storylines in the Nickelodeon shows and wonder who they are aimed at.

Rosesareyellow · 09/10/2021 16:26

I don’t think there’s any need to make a face about it. It’s actually quite nasty. If a child enjoys something why does it matter?
For what it’s worth I’m in my 30s and I’m yet to outgrow Disney movies 🤷‍♀️

doglikescheeseontoast · 09/10/2021 16:26

I fucking hate Paw Patrol, but I am 54 and quite grumpy. My 5 year old grandson is bored of it now, but my nearly 2 year old grandson is starting to take an interest in it.

Nana's tv is 'broken' quite a lot these days so we have to do other stuff Grin

MrsTidyHouse · 09/10/2021 16:29

Another 10 year old boy here. Binges on it after school. It makes him laugh and it's his safe place after another shitty day at school. He has many of the toys and sets them up for adventures. I hope he can enjoy it for as long as he wants without being tormented for watching something "for babies".

FixItUpChappie · 09/10/2021 16:31

I think there is far too much pressure to push children along milestones these days. Which is why you get things like 'My 7yo has outgrown playing with toys' and other such nonsense.

Totally agree with this. Just had my childless adult brother visit and he went on and on about how " young" my just turned eleven yr old is playing with all manner of toys (everything dress up, make believe) with his younger brother, about how we haven't let the kids watch the Marvel movies yet (they don't ask), how he still likes to curl up and read with me...yadda, yadda. The judgement was rife. I found it so sad. Our boy is a sweet, funny, loving kid - we can't be doing everything wrong can we?

Ben and Holly and Peppa Pig are massively underrated.

everythingbackbutyou · 09/10/2021 16:53

Paw Patrol episodes must be super quick to write once you have sketched in all the catchphrases.

HerRoyalRisesAgain · 09/10/2021 16:58

My autistic 6 year old is obsessed with it. And I mean obsessed

esloquehay · 09/10/2021 17:12

My 3.5 yr old twin daughters LOVE Paw Patrol and Blaze and the Monster Machines (I loathe the latter).
They've never really sat still long enough to get into any series until recently.
Luckily, they still prefer imaginative play, so I'm spared over exposure to any cartoon. 😅

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 09/10/2021 17:22

It’s daft to ask what age it’s for - it’s for any age who enjoy it!

My 7 yo still likes playing with the figures and vehicles- they do join in with the knights, Lego and playmobil- but I wouldn’t say he’s grown out of it now, even though he doesn’t watch the show. His friends seem to enjoy the characters too.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 09/10/2021 17:23

@everythingbackbutyou Ben and Holly is amazing- so witty

londonrach · 09/10/2021 17:33

Up to the child but most outgrow it at 3 to 4. All my four friends are in the process of getting rid of the toys as they untouched for abit and my daughter is 5 so the children are 4 to 5

MsJuniper · 09/10/2021 17:50

My DS still liked it when he was 6 but a child like yours was unpleasant to him so the PP water bottle and swimming trunks were retired.

He's 9 now and still secretly enjoys watching it with his little sister on a Saturday morning.

Such a shame when children learn so early to sneer at others. I wonder where they get it from? Confused

Snaketime · 09/10/2021 18:01

My 7 year old doesn't mind it, she will watch it if it is on but won't actively search it out. She prefers pokemon, jurassic world; camp cretaceous, Milo Murphys Law and Phineas and ferb. Oh and Minecraft obviously Hmm

SaraSidleWillows · 09/10/2021 18:03

Paw patrol is sexist as hell, it’s banned here. Same goes for PJ Masks and quite a lot of other toddler shows.

I still haven’t figured out why the main team’s only girl dog has pink goddamn eyes while the rest of them have normal eyes.

Paddingtonthebear · 09/10/2021 18:06

My DD was in to it big time from 3-4yrs or so but had moved on by the time she started school. However there were plenty in Reception who were still in to it in her first year of school. She was very nearly 5 by the time she started school though.

Chakraleaf · 09/10/2021 18:07

Under 4s but who cares

tanqueray10 · 09/10/2021 18:28

My two loved it on television up until about age 5 but recently I took both to see the movie and my too cool for school youtube /fortnite loving 8 year old loved it!

Goldbar · 09/10/2021 19:08

My DC (almost 4) is a huge fan. Having read this thread, I hope their enthusiasm is allowed to wane gradually when they start school rather than coming across judgy classmates who loudly proclaim that it is "for babies".

Haudyourwheesht · 09/10/2021 19:45

My DDs have never liked Paw Patrol but I quite like it when they watch things that could be considered 'young' for them. Far better than than playing Fortnite at 5 and watching Steven King adaptations at 11.
