What age is Paw Patrol for?

I've seen a few threads on here where people have said their 6YO kids like Paw Patrol. Which has left me a bit Confused.

My 6YO DS is of the opinion that Paw Patrol is for babies. I can't say any of his class mates like it either. I'm secretly quite glad my DC enjoy other things and I'm no longer subjected to 'Rubble on the double' anymore.

(Disclaimer - A lot of my parenting choices are very un- mumsnet and I wonder if I'm a terrible parent for exposing my DC to the dangers of Pokemon, Bakugan and Minecraft at a delicate age).

@Milkbottlelegs

I think they all have a limited attention span for these things. So they discover a new show, obsess about it for a few months or maybe a bit longer, then lose interest when they discover the next show. Repeat.

I think DC went PJ Masks, Paw Patrol, super wings.

So maybe the 6 year olds that still like paw patrol discovered it a bit later?

That's what mine are like. It's like once they have liked something, they can never like it again.

"Dinosaurs were soooo March 2021 mum!"

It's for any age that still enjoys it.
Whether that's 3 or 60

I'm 42 and I'd rather watch cartoons than Breaking Bad or Game Of Thrones or any other such grown up stuff.

Stompythedinosaur · 09/10/2021 15:26

I don't think it is too unusual for a 6yo to like paw patrol. It's fine for dc to like what they like.

I think there's an idea that it is some sort of virtue for dc to move rapidly on to older kids stuff, bit it really isn't. Like all the posters who weirdly gloat about their young dc having grown out of toys and only liking make up or some such.

Yourstupidityexhaustsme · 09/10/2021 15:27

18 months - maybe about 7?

I’m yet to meet an infant child who doesn’t like it. I must admit of all the cartoons I find Paw Patrol the most bearable.

DN is six and is just about growing out of it. He went to go and see the film and loved it though. However he retired his paw patrol bedding over the summer holidays for the first time since he was three for Star Wars so I don’t think it’ll be long until he’s lost all interest.

Yourstupidityexhaustsme · 09/10/2021 15:28

Peppa Pig makes me want to put my fist through the television. I don’t believe in violence against children but for that fucker I’d make an exception!

She’s a nasty little girl and I can tell when mine have watched her because they go very rude and answer back 😂 she’s my nemesis.

TheKeatingFive · 09/10/2021 15:30

I love Peppa Pig.

And Ben and Holly.

I have a similar reaction to Bing... And Pando..

Get off the swing Pando...
It's Bing's turn now..
GET OFF THE SWING Ya LITTLE SHIT
And put some damn trousers on FFS.

JamieFrasersLover · 09/10/2021 15:35

My 8 year old loves it.

Nordstrom · 09/10/2021 15:41

My 5 year old is paw patrol mad! And my almost 9 year old dd is (quietly) a fan.

ReeseWitherfork · 09/10/2021 15:41

@WormYourHonour I used to recoil when my nieces and nephews would watch Bing, but I actually quite like it now my own child watches it. It feels quite true to how kids actually are. I don't even mind Pando that much. Paget should have made him get off that swing; she's not a very affective bean bag babysitter.

The one that really winds me up is Glitch from Go Jetters. Such a pouty man child.

Peanutsandchilli · 09/10/2021 15:44

My 11 year old went to see the movie out of choice. She's in high school.

You like what you like. Don't project your own opinions on to your son. I hate it when kids get laughed at because other children are blindly repeating what their parents have told them.

nokidshere · 09/10/2021 15:44

. I just know my own kids were about 3 when they enjoyed this kind of stuff, as were most of their peers. So I do presume kids of a similar age have also outgrown it.

The thing is that most children still like their favourite shows long after they 'are supposed' to have outgrown it. They might not put it on themselves for fear of being seen as 'babyish' but pretty much all children will stay and watch it if a younger child puts it on. If they felt safe to watch it - not being ridiculed by adults or peers - they would watch it longer.

If they really have outgrown it, they will have only moved onto something else just as dire.

Nightbringer · 09/10/2021 15:45

MN is very middle class in a way that you probably don't even realise unless you don't live that life. That's what I mean.

I don't live that life. I live in an ex mining town that I moved to because it was cheap. Until about 8 years ago I didn't earn very much and come from a working class family. Still really don't get what you mean.

Theres all sorts of parents on here.

Insertfunnyname · 09/10/2021 15:48

Just watched some paw patrol with my 6 year old yesterday! First time in ages he loved it. My 9 year old happily watched along too. It’s a harmless, engaging cartoon.

Wannakisstheteacher · 09/10/2021 15:48

DS is 8 and we took him to see they film after he asked to go. It does make me feel sad that childhood seems to be getting shorter and shorter for children, with an endless race to outgrow everything as fast as possible.

feellikeanalien · 09/10/2021 15:50

Count yourself luck OP. DD is 14 but has additional needs and she still enjoys Paw Patrol.

She has also rediscovered Fireman Sam courtesy of the new series.

Thankfully she seems to have got over Peppa Pig.

At least Fireman Sam has some good female role models! Grin

DressBitch · 09/10/2021 15:51

My son was 5 in April and has outgrown it since Christmas. After I spent a fortune on all the toys that he's hardly played with... 🙄

nokidshere · 09/10/2021 15:52

There are a lot of things I allow my kids to do that the MN hive mind is against (think TVs in bedrooms etc). I'm trying to work out if it's my kids that are the exception.

Given that statistics show 7 out of 10 children have a tv in their room you obviously aren't the exception.

I think you are putting too much thought into this tbh.

danni0509 · 09/10/2021 16:00

My ds is nearly 8 and watches fireman Sam. He has disabilities and is younger than 8 developmentally but when he has it on I sometimes sit and watch it too, I’m 32!

Embroidery · 09/10/2021 16:01

6 year olds are little children.

If you think theyre too old for paw patrol at 6 god knows what theyll be like at 10/11.

Paw patrol is for age 0 to 10.

Probablyinpain · 09/10/2021 16:03

My 2 YO loves it. Which means my 10 YO with ASD has rediscovered it and loves it too.

I don't get hung up on what age they should grow out of a programme. There are much bigger things to worry about.

danni0509 · 09/10/2021 16:03

In fact he’s asked me for bluey toys for Xmas, my 6 month old nephew loves bluey. I couldn’t get worked up over it, sorry,

ViceLikeBlip · 09/10/2021 16:05

My 5yo and 3yo love paw patrol, and the 7yo happily plays along with them. They also all love avengers and jurassic Park and other (highly unsuitable) "grown up" things as well. A child who proclaims that a basically age appropriate programme is "too babyish" has probably got someone in their life pushing them to grow up 🤨
