I feel like at 48, I have really started to age- creepy neck, a bit jowly, going a bit grey and not feeling great to be honest! I look after myself - don’t really drink as I see it on my face, wear nice clothes, nice hair etc but it’s becoming an effort ☹️ Wasn’t expecting it actually!! I always thought I looked pretty good for my age. I know it’s vain and I shouldn’t care but it’s just weird!!

43/44 - like the ageing was no longer in my control.

Nel246 · 08/10/2021 04:13

I'm 31 and I'd say I have definitely noticed that I've aged this last year...since having 2 kids 13 months apart! For me it's the wrinkles around my eyes that have suddenly appeared

RantyAunty · 08/10/2021 04:20

Menopause did it.

garlictwist · 08/10/2021 04:26

I'm 40 now but I definitely felt I started to look less fresh around the age of 35. My face suddenly went really gaunt although I haven't lost any weight and I got eye bags.

SleepQuest33 · 08/10/2021 04:38

48, have never been an oil painting but at least used to look pretty youthful. Now not even that! Don’t like it if I’m honest.

DifferentHair · 08/10/2021 04:45

Trauma and stress have rapidly aged me in the last two years. I'm 36. Before I always looked young for my age but now I look tired and weathered.

I am hoping I can get some of my looks back. I actually think a lot of it is attitude and how you dress and hold yourself.

I'm trying to take better care of myself from the inside and hope to see it on the outside as well... if not- there is always Botox!

FreeBritnee · 08/10/2021 06:34

48 is not feeling good so far. EVERYTHING hurts.

@DameMaureen

I think that women often seem to age between 30 and 45 ish when they have kids and either don't have time to look after theselves or go very - can't use any of the words without getting a bollocking - mumsy, frumpy, dragged down by kids etc . There's a big change between 20s and early 40s . The good news I think is that THEN you start to get better looking and even younger looking once kids are off your hands and that 45/50 onwards many women seem to develop a lovely style combined with the confidence of age which is a major factor in your overall appearance . They often have more time and money to take more care of themselves and a bit of Botox ( even filler for jowls) is a great help as is well looked after hair .HRT can help with menopause and other health issues related to ageing . I think many of you are just in that "awkward stage" . I look better now than I did at 50 .
I agree! I spent my late 20s and most of my 30s caring for young dc, who didn't sleep well while juggling work/life etc At 50 they are all now almost stress free older teens or adults and life is so much easier. I often get home from work to an empty house and have a little nap Grin My former self could have only dreamt of the hours of sleep I have now!

I definitely look way better for it and actually like what I see in the mirror and photos!

hugocat · 08/10/2021 07:40

I noticed men stopped looking at me from late thirties Grin42 now, lots of grey but I colour it. I've lightened my hair and people say too dark hair is ageing. I'm very very lucky that I don't have any aches and pains that people talk about, sore joints etc. I don't understand what they're talking about yet. Always tired but I was the same in my twenties. The droopy eyelids SadI'd have the surgery if I had the money. Does anyone have any eye make up tips for this?

branchlight · 08/10/2021 09:07

45 started to notice changes in face. At 48 I don't recognise myself - my face shape has completely changed. Really thinned, beginning of jowling has given me that pointed chin thing, pronounced naso-labial folds, which are merging with those downturning lines from the mouth. My skin is fine - its the sagging, especially in the lower face that is ageing me. I hate it.
I look fine in some mirrors but awful in others, I have actually started when I accidentally catch sight of myself!

But its not just my face. My bloody vulva is giving up the ghost too!
Its been sore for two years now and HRT has not helped. Have a referral to a vulva clinic.

Middle age sucks!

See, I made the mistake of having my kids late. My youngest has only just started primary! I'm fucked! Grin

@LaurenKelsey

The good news is that once you get into your 60’s, you won’t care nearly as much about how you look or what people think of you. 😊
I'm hoping to start dating again then, so I will care.

I feel like I am living my life backwards from everyone else when I read things like this. And I read them a lot on here. About how the brilliant thing from late 40s on is how you have loads of free time now the kids are grown and you no longer care about men or being attractive. That's not my life!

branchlight · 08/10/2021 09:48

@Teamtrial

What does 'old woman smell' and 'old man smell' actually smell like? (Says she, sniffing herself and DH)... Is it more than incontinence/unwashed clothes/unwashed bodies???
I don't think there is a smell.

I think for very old people it is what you say.

The older people I have been around did not smell, unless there were other issues.

HarrietsChariot · 08/10/2021 10:02

40, everything just started hurting and felt like an effort. And grey hairs started becoming more prevalent.

That was last year though, in a few years I might revise my decision.

SusannaOwens · 08/10/2021 10:15

@branchlight

What sort of HRT have you tried? The pills/patches/gel aren't always enough for vaginal atrophy,but an internal estrogen cream/pessaries are more effective.

@Lotusmonster

51 and practically piddle my pants whenever I put a key in the front door these days….that’s a new thing. Need to do pelvic floor exercises 😮
There's an op for that which I had - one of the best things ever .

it’s called latch key incontinence, I had female phyisio and it really helped.

lockdownmadnessdotcom · 08/10/2021 12:57

I'm 49 and have massive eye bags which put 10 years on me. But other than that I am slimmer and fitter than I was at 29. My hair looks ok and the highlights hide the grey.

My running is a bit slower than it was when I was in my early 40s but faster than in my mid 40s.

Someone once said as you age, you can either have your face or your figure

I thought it was your face or your bottom. Definitely my bottom in my case {grin] The annoying thing is that if I didn't have eye bags I'd look ok.

  1. Eugh.
bumblingbovine49 · 08/10/2021 13:20

I'd say my late 40s. I am now 57 and don't recognise myself compared to photos of me 10 years ago. The photos of me in my 30s compared to my and 40s are much less different than if I compare myself now with my 40s. In my 40s I still looked ok. Now I look like a late middle aged /oldish woman , no matter what I wear

Guacamole001 · 08/10/2021 13:35

That's the beauty of dermal fillers. Aged 57 but would probably pass for late 40s.

SirChenjins · 08/10/2021 13:36

No fillers for me, thanks, but each to their own Smile

Od130990 · 08/10/2021 13:49

I think most people I know & work with including myself have aged 4/5years since the first lockdown 😫

We look middle-aged because we are middle-aged.

  1. Everything seemed to collapse! I'm 46 now and have a face full of Botox and fillers Grin
