To want to escape anytime family is going to be coming over?

Because I do. I live with my mum and stepdad so aunties, cousins, uncles do visit and when they do I just want to make my excuses and run as fast as I can! I don't dislike them but they can be OTT, loud and occassionally rude which I am completely the opposite. I am calm, reserved and hate being the centre of attention. Everyone says I take after my dad who I haven't seen since I was a very young child. I find I have nothing in common with them and when I am in their company I just cringe and subsequently become withdrawn. I've just heard that my aunt and cousin will be visiting in a few days, just for a few hours in the evening but I want to make excuses and go out! I know it's nice of them to visit but that doesn't stop me dreading them coming! Am I normal?!?! I feel really mean as they're otherwise mostly nice, normal people!

Obvious solution is to get your own place.
I take it this is your mother's home?

camillathechicken · 07/12/2007 19:49

are you fairyonthechristmastree in disguise?

anyhoo.. yes you are being a bit unreasonable, just because they are OTT and loud which is the opposite of you, is not a reason to not spend time with them.

spend a couple of hours with them and make an excuse that you have friends to see or soemthing else to do

This is natures way of telling you it's time you had your own pad.

camillathechicken · 07/12/2007 19:50

because if you are fairy, then you were talking about getting your own place and moving away aaaaaaages ago!

scattysanta · 07/12/2007 19:55

I used to feel like that at home Lola. I'd go out for the evening.

Hello all, I know I am being unreasonable, just wanted you all to say noooo! Lol!

I'm not fairy camilla. If she is who I think she is, a nanny, she went abroad to work I believe to start a new life. I used to speak to her on messenger a lot but she doesn't come on anymore. Probs too busy working!
